Goodbye, Space Mountain (for me anyhow)

I don't know. I have 3 fused vertebrae and have no problem. Maybe the fusion actually helps! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, i too felt pretty sore after my last ride in 2012. I skipped it entirely in 2013. If the stand-by line is short, i may brave it this week. But i don't see myself waiting in line for a pain in the neck.

At 29 years old on our last trip I found it to be mighty uncomfortable! Now 30, I expect it to be slightly worse! I may skip it all together this year and send DH with the kids!

I rode Space Mountain once in 2012 and that was enough for me! I can ride Expedition Everest five times in a row but Space Mountain scares me because it's so jerky.

OP,

Splash Mountin is closed for refurbishment in January. Don't know when your visit is or when it reopens.

My DH said he thought it was a Rougher ride last time I just :rotfl2: Ok:lmao: note to self DH is sensitive.:rotfl2: I am screaming my head off and laughing so hard that I would never know. :rotfl: we have been to DL and he said it was a smoother ride and I just :lmao: I'm having to much fun.

My DH is just happy IASW will be closed during our visit.:crazy2:

Totally agree with you! I usually ride it once with my son because he still likes it - but I only do that because my husband absolutely refuses to go on it at all and I don't want my son to go alone! It has become way too jerky and is really not enjoyable at all!

I too am in the No Space Club.
We went first week of December, and I rode for the first time in 10 years, only to ask my kids "Why do you like that so much?" as I was popping Ibuprofen. :headache:
It's the only ride that literally rattles my brain...

Totally agree, OP. Rode it in February and I was super dizzy coming off as well. I felt like my brain and been jostled and my teeth moved about!

The track was redone in 2009. Do people think the track needs replacing, or is the roughness an I'm Getting Older thing?

I will say that I have noticed that the back car of the 2 that are hooked together gets a much rougher ride. If you want to ride and have it be less jerky, ask to be put in the front car.

Space has always been HIGHLY overrated in my book, party due to the jerking. It's like this one metal coaster at the park near my house, it was amazing when launched, now 10 years later I won't go on it because it shakes you to within an inch of your life (and it's still much better than Space)

Totally agree....it is very jerky!

Don't totally swear off SM until you give the one at DL a try. It is much smoother and a better coaster IMO:thumbsup2

My family and I just went to WDW for our first time in Nov. and we also did not care for Space Mtn. there. Way too rough and jerky. Reminds me of the Matterhorn at Disneyland, as we will no longer ride that. We are from Calif. and love the Space Mtn. at Disneyland, so much better!

Did something change when the track changed? I remember it being fine, but the last year or two have been unbearable. I mean, my daughter and I go to Busch Gardens and ride every coaster (except the wooden) one multiple times, no problem. But SM is just rough, jerky, no head support. Actually...maybe that's the problem. There's nothing to lean your head against.

I've never been on a metal coaster so rough--it feels like the really old wooden coasters that are worn out. :)

I'll join that club as well. I generally get motion sickness on things that spin, but I love rollercoasters so I just tolerate it most of the time. But this.. oh my. I came off of it and thought I was either going to pass out, throw up, or fall over. That stuck with me for the rest of the day, too! Dinosaur's another one I tend not to do. I think I'm done with Space!

This is exactly me! I only get motion sickness from spinning things like teacups, dumbo, etc. Last week, I also got motion sickness, I rode in the second seat. I get it the worst on EEverest when it goes backwards.

It wasn't redone, though.

From **************.net:

Space Mountain closed in April 2009 for what was thought to be a major refurbishment. But then the recession happened, and it re-opened in November of 2009 with only minor changes.

It took over 2 years to actually change the track in Anaheim. April to November isn't enough time. There were cosmetic changes.

I did Space Mountain in DLR once. Since than I was never on it again.
Simply disliked it that much, waved goodby forever back than

I say it jostles my brain. We haven't given up; mostly because we have kids who insist on riding. Each year it gets worse.
