Goodbye PS, hello ADR

I agree-"reservation" will just make it worse.
Now--since they will most likely not go back to a true reservation system, what SHOULD they call it??
Maybe a "preferred waiting list"??

Scott, love your calculator.. don't care what you call it... lol...

O/T noticed your Les Habitant (Canadiens) avitar. So did you miss hockey as much as I did this year. We should be starting playoffs right about now! :sad2:

It's been terrible! Nothing to watch on Saturday night's this winter. They better get their act together soon. And these are supposed to be smart business people who made billions. :sad2:

I've had a lot of input from the DIS and other boards I've posted to. Not only is this going to confuse people but think of the cost. Maps, brochures, web sites which Disney provides will all have to be changed besides the screens in their Dining system.

The best so far was someone suggesting they call it a FastPass Reservation where you get into the shortest wait line at the restaurant. Then, again, everyone would be looking for the restaurant's FastPass machines! :rotfl:

Thanks for all your comments! My site remains the PS Calculator for the immediate future.

Calling it a reservation will encourage guest to cancel once they know they won't be using it. Calling it a reservation will also make it easier for Disney to justify stopping guests from making duplicate reservations.

But wasn't it all the uncanceled, un-kept reservations that made them go to the PS system in the first place??

I've had dinner reservations here locally where we had a wait. It happens - especially a popular spot later in the evening - if one table takes longer than they expected, you'll wait.

So I don't think it will cause any more battles than they currently have.

What do restaurants in the "real" world call it when they don't take reservations? Call ahead seating? Where they put your name on the list and when you actually arrive you get the next available table? That's basically what PS's are - call ahead seating. I think the word "reservation" is to be avoided since there ARE some events at WDW that require a true reservation along with a credit card guarantee. But whatever. I can go with whatever terminology they choose as ong as the procedure is the same. :)

A question:

A friend who works at WDW CRO hasn't heard about this.. Where do you get your information?

Well, Mr Bettman personally promised me there would be hockey next year..... lol... Seriously I think replacement players will be used if no CBA is in place by next season

Geez they think the term "priority seating" is confusing people, wait til they change it to something with the word "reservation" in it! I can't tell you how many people I have heard complaining "well WE have a priority seating" and assuming it is the same as a reservation. I just want to say "yes people, we ALL have a priority seating" clearly they have no clue what that means. Now with the term reservation being used they are going to have some serious complainers.

Ditto.

PS makes more sense in that context. I could see changing it to something more appropriate, but putting "reservations" in there is an invitation to disaster.

Oh well. Glad I don't work at the podium of a busy WDW eatery - or Guest Services! My sympathy to those who do.

N.E.D.

Just bumping this up as I hadn't heard about it until the Magically Speaking newsletter.

Thanks, Scott, for sharing the news with us. :)

I agree that the new name will cause more confusion with the word "reservation" in the title. And Scott's PS Calculator is a lot catchier than Scott's ADR Calculator, don't you think? ;)

The magically speaking newsletter says "Beginning June 1, when systems enhancements allow for actual reservations, the terminology will be "Advanced Dining Reservations"

Hmmmm... does this really mean it will be different, I mean it says it's "ACTUAL" ?? :goodvibes :rolleyes1

I'm actually sitting in my PreTrial class right now learning about ADR as in Alternative Dispute Resolution. I wish it were about Disney dining..

This opposed to a non-advanced dining reservation, huh? ;)
With the reservation wording, I imagine guests are going to expect seating at a specific time. :confused3

I just wonder when they're going to let the phone reps know... As far as my friend in Orlando says, she's never heard it.
