Goodbye, Maxpass. Hello, Disney Genie.

There are already too many people complaining it should just be free, that it is too expensive, and it is ruining trips for families.

I don't know what the right answer is, Genie+ does seem like a good program, but if too many do use it, it will lower the value.
They are splitting the baby, should be a large premium to skip the line to make it meaningful to those who are paying it while also keeping standby lines close to where they currently are

I'll be the one with the unpopular opinion here but I'm really hoping Genie+ will just launch already. :duck:Let's just get it going... take some time to work out the kinks and all the tech issues we know there will be before the xmas season. Finally know all the prices, how it works, strategies, etc. I'm sick of unknowns when trying to plan our trip.

We always visit at peak times of the year though bc of my schedule so I'd rather pay for that quicker ride access than be stuck in long lines. I'm definitely the target audience ("sucker"? haha) for this. WDW with no FP was so rough- waiting in line over an hour is something we're not used to. Just take my money and be done with it... they end up getting most of it anyways.
Same for me. I will be paying for Plus and will also be more than happy to pay for some Individual rides as well if my other strategies fail. We really missed FP last fall at WDW. We arrive in DLR Oct 8 and I really hope it starts at least a few days before that.

WDW is moving to a standby line for Rise of the Resistance starting Sept. 23rd.... no virtual queue.

Potential Genie+ release date? You know that standby line will be nuts and if that's when the extra upcharge line opens, well....

No word on Disneyland's Rise though but I think we're likely assuming Genie+ will start at both parks at the same time? I think it is safe to assume Rise will either be standby or upcharge... no more free virtual queue. :(

So about the shift to Genie: If you guys are right, and it rolls out 10/4, me and my fam (and two other families we're good friends with -- our kids' schools all have this weird October break) will be the test subjects; my family will be doing 5-day hoppers starting on that date. Hoooo boy ... I'll try to report back!
This is exactly what I'm thinking. We are bringing (mostly) first time guests from 10/2 - 10/7. I do not want to be part of the guinea pig group at all. I was kind of excited for one trip where I don't have to stare at my phone the whole time to book maxpass.
We are also there starting October 4... I would prefer to see this roll out on October 8th! I do not want this messing with us, especially since I'm desperate for my son to finally ride ROTR.

Man, I 100% hope there is something released along side standby line!

I'll be pretty made if it's standby only when I'm down there in late October... I can handle the questionable jump into a virtual queue and be assigned a return time... but it will suck if the only option is like a 90+ minute wait time with no other option (paid or not).

I 100% think RotR will be a LL attraction in both parks. It’s a HUGE draw and people will pay for the privilege to ride it!

Hmmm, get rid of boarding passes 9/23 and turn lines 'standby only' thereby creating HUGE lines with loooonnnggg wait times. Let those wait times filter out to the Disney community and pray for a big uproar, then start up LL+ 10/1 and watch people rush to pay $20 pp to skip that horrible, terrible line they've heard so much about. Sounds like 'good' marketing to me. But awful PR.

Man, I heard some bloggers guessing even up to $50 for RotR. 💀

Bummer because when I heard that about RotR... I thought 'Well, I always can get a boarding group with no issue' Oof.

Maybe the $50 guess is on a peak day/time of year... and regular minimum will be around $20. Either way, rope droppin that sucker. Let the stampede/Hunger Games begin.

No way I am paying $50.00 per person to ride a ride after I am paying for my family of 5. We are doing a quick trip to Disneyland and 2 day tickets are 1145.00 for 2 days now you are telling me $15.00 more per person plus $50.00 or something similar to ride the E ticket rides. This is outrageous to me. Our last family trip to WDW in 2019 I spent $6000.00 or more and that was without dessert parties or extra this or that. We are middle class and the backbone of Disney with our annual trips but it is getting to the point where only the wealthy can afford the park and they aren’t the ones going to them. I do feel like WDW was so overcrowded before the pandemic that they had to do something about the lines but I don’t like any of the direction they are going in. I feel like they are making huge marketing mistakes by stripping away all the benefits and doubling up on the cost.

Be careful what you wish for. This app/program may have a ROUGH first few days as glitches work out and cast members get used to it. I would be wary of having to deal with this with first time guests.
I totally understand that concern...believe me, I've thought of that exact thing myself. We are in the parks starting October 6th, so my fingers are crossed that they can work out any MAJOR issues from Oct. 1st-5th! :rotfl2:

So is there a reason to wait to purchase park tix until you can purchase tix with Genie+ added at the outset? There's no benefit, right? Bc you can always add later? Or am I missing something? Trying to decide when to purchase our park tix for our Feb trip.

Tell ya what......that ain't gonna fly with this girl. There's NO ride worth a $50 upcharge. I could afford to pay it, but no friggin' way I'm going to.

Me either, but I'm one that won't wait more than about 50-60 minutes top for any ride. I won't be paying a lot of money for a ride either. I can skip this one for years if that is what it comes down to. There's plenty of other good rides to do.

I understand having people pay for a fastpass (genie+) and getting rid of the free paper ones. But the up charge for certain rides just reeks of greed.

I know they already charge a lot more than other places but they see that people are willing to pay to get on quicker so they are going to do the same thing. I think that it won't impact visits as much as we think because if the stand by line is not bad then people won't pay the extra.
