Good Golly Gawrsh! It's a 2015 10-year anniversary Goofy PTR

I promise to behave on the no running. :thumbsup2

So, mini trip update. I've been faithfully stalking the Allegiant website waiting for them to release flights for our dates and yesterday they were there! :cool1: But, when I checked the cost, it was a little more expensive than we've paid in the past. Boo. :worried: So, Chris and I talked a lot last night about whether to go ahead and book or wait and see if prices went down. Of course, that also means prices could go up. So, we ultimately decided to just go ahead and book it. So, today I went on to book the trip and the price had dropped. :hyper: I was so happy.

So, we are all set with Allegiant to fly into Tampa on Thursday Jan. 8 (Allegiant only flies into Orlando/Sanford on Friday and we want to get there on Thursday) and then we fly out of Sanford on the following Friday. :cool1:

I emailed our house place to see if they could add on the Thursday day and he said no problem, so we are all set. I'm most excited that we should have time to get to the Expo on Thursday instead of late on Friday like previous years, so I'm hoping there will still be more items available than in years past.

Total for the flights including taxes, fees and baggage costs (Allegiant nickels and dimes you on everything) was $250.69 per person. I think that's pretty good. :woohoo:

Congrats on booking your flight!! That is still on my to do list for january. I don't know that we will be able to get fares for quite as good as you got! Awesome deal!! (well, awesome as far as what current fares are like. Where are those $200 or less fares we saw not long ago ) We did get our room booked though...so that is something.

And... :woohoo: for this putting you getting to the expo earlier. I don't even really buy anything and I like to go as early as possible. I just hate feeling like I might miss some great item or deal....

HA! We are the same way. We actually buy very little, but with this being the 10 year anniversary of Goofy I definitely want to get some items to commemorate that. I'm really wondering if there might be a Dooney & Bourke Goofy bag. I'm usually a cheapskate about spending a lot of money on purses, but if they had something like that, I would be tempted to splurge. Although odds are even arriving late on Thursday they'd all be gone. Still super excited to have travel booked. Makes it feel more real. As though the chunk of change I dropped on race registration should have been enough. :rotfl:

You should definitely get something to commemorate the anniversary!!

Had to laugh
"As though the chunk of change I dropped on race registration should have been enough"

Exactly!!!

These injury updates are just not real exciting are they? :(

Well, I had another massage last night and she did some different things this time really working the whole leg and massaging opposing muscles. Then she dug into my glutes. YIKES!!! :scared1: That hurt like a you-know-what!!! Clearly my hips and glutes are part of the overall problem. My rump is sore today though.

This morning I had another therapy session and it went really well. He said he could tell my flexibility was better and that likely the massage had helped with that. Along with stretches today he had me start some strengthening exercises. The stretching and strengthening while still a little painful actually felt good. Like a good pain if that makes sense. He also said he could see that my pain was improving. So, all a good report I think. Just keep being patient with resting/healing and keep up the therapy and massage and I remain optimistic that I'll be healed up in a couple of weeks.

We are finally supposed to have a nice weekend here. It's been raining for almost two weeks solid. :( So, I am going to try and get in some pool time and do some swimming to try and maintain some cardio conditioning. I really stink at swimming, so it's not something I enjoy doing as far as swimming laps goes, but if it helps me get back to running quicker, I will persevere.

And because I haven't included any pictures for a bit, here's one of my kids at Krispy Kreme donuts one morning. Chris and I no longer eat donuts (which is really sort of tragic if you think about it too much:sad: ), but on Saturdays after our long runs we always pick up a box of Krispy Kremes to take home to the kids. Yes, we still "poison" our kids with sugary donuts on occasion. Chris always brings home three of the hats and the kids aren't allowed to eat the donuts unless they wear the hats. One of Chris' little torture devices for our children. :rotfl2:

Even though you are still having to take time off from training it sounds like you are improving, so that is definitely a win!

Kids and the donuts are cute! No donuts for you though? ::yes:: definitely tragic!

Woohoo just found this, joining in!

Sorry to hear about your injury, not being able to run when all you want to do is train is the WORST!

I'm interested to follow your training because while I understand the concept behind the galloway method, I don't know much about it. What is the magic mile?

Also, I LOVED the comparison of buying shoes to Harry Potter wands-so true!pixiedust:

Welcome!! :goodvibes

I'm getting increasingly frustrated without being able to run. But, I'm trying very hard to be patient.

As far as Galloway training goes, Jeff Galloway uses the magic mile to help you determine what race pace is appropriate for you and thus what run/walk intervals are best. The magic mile basically has you do a timed one mile run going about as fast as you feel you can manage it. Based on that time, Galloway then adds on to that to help you establish your race pace. He usually recommends that you run a magic mile 2-3 times during your training to see if adjustments to race pace are needed.

Glad to have you here!!

*sigh*

Still working to improve from my injury. I'm still going to physical therapy. Still doing stretches. Still doing ice massage. Yada.yada.yada.

Can you tell I'm getting depressed? :sad1: It really is improving. There are times now that it is completely unnoticeable to me, so I know it's better. But, my PT person really thinks I need to hold off a bit longer on running again, but I hope no more than one week more. So, enough of that depressing topic. On to....

Running Costumes.

So, I'm not a big one on a true costume. I have enough trouble just completing my runs, I don't need to add another challenge in the clothing department. ;) But, I do like to run in something fun and Disney appropriate for these races. In the first marathon I ran in a pink Minnie Sparkle Tech skirt.

And the second year, we ordered custom t-shirts for me, Chris and my SIL and BIL.

But, this year with two races I wanted to step it up a notch, but still had concerns about ensuring I was in something that I could run in comfortably. So, I started just googling around looking for ideas and stumbled upon this Etsy store.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/iGlowRunning

She basically makes custom running outfits with an obvious clientele for primarily Disney races. Her outfits while very costome in looks are good functional running outfits. Or at least that's what she says and how they appear on her site. Now, the one thing they are not is cheap. But, part of me is like, "hey, you are already spending a bundle on this race. What's a little more to have something you will have fun wearing?" Right? :rolleyes1 And, honestly, no good running gear is cheap, so considering what looks like the quality and style of these, they really aren't too outlandish.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I think I'm going to. I know that I want to get this outfit for running the marathon portion of Goofy.

This particular skirt doesn't have shorts built in, but from reading her website, you can have it sewn with built in shorts that have leg pockets much like the SparkleTech skirts. She also has a mens shirt that matches this, so Chris has said he'd be willing to wear that with some blue running shorts. I'm 99.9% sure that I'm going to order this.

So, then I've been wondering what to wear on Saturday for the Donald half. I've been debating just doing another custom t-shirt design. But, I've also considered this outfit from the same store.

I think it's just adorable and she also makes it in a sleeveless version. Chris, however, has said he refuses to wear a matching shirt to this one. :rotfl2: So, jury is still out on that.

What do you guys think?

Adorable! I love both of those outfits. :goodvibes

For the Goofy...I wonder if you could get a black pair of SparkleBottoms to have with the skirt? That way it would be something you know and like with the outfit. :confused3

I followed the link you posted to her site and at first I was like...:scared1: at the prices. But then I thought about it and realized that what I'm planning on wearing for the races (RawThreads top + SparkleSkirt + Sweaty Band --> different ones for each race, of course :rolleyes1) makes those custom outfits look like a bargain. :faint: She's got great reviews too so I would think it would be a good purchase.

Maybe Chris can dress as Daisy to your Donald for the half!!! :rotfl2: Do it Chris, that would be so awesome!!!

I love the items you have picked out! I was kinda expecting them to be more expensive. I have seen lots of outfits come through asking hundreds of dollars. These seem reasonable (if there is such a thing when you take the word "running" to it.)

What great timing for you to post that link too. I have spent my evening on etsy. I am trying to decide what I am going to do for the Disneyland half.

Sorry the injury is still lingering. Almost better though, yes? So not too much longer to wait.

I thought about doing that too. I like the idea of a race costume, but then think it's a lot of spend for something I might only wear one time.

I was exactly the same way about the prices but also found when I added up all the individual pieces I've bought before it's really not that far off. Some of her costumes are quite a bit more depending on the amount of detailing, but the Goofy one really isn't too bad. I read her reviews too and that encouraged me. She actually has you send in your measurements as well, so that makes me feel better that I'd be assured a good fit.

Maybe Chris can dress as Daisy to your Donald for the half!!! :rotfl2: Do it Chris, that would be so awesome!!!

:lmao: that would be a sight to see. I'll see if I can convince him! ;)

I'm glad it timed out well for you to look it over. There are a lot of costumes and race ideas out there. I wish I were a seamstress so I can make my own, but that is definitely not a talent of mine.

Thank you. It has been a really persistent injury. :sad1:

Well, Sunday marked two weeks since I last ran. So, on Saturday, I decided to try and go for a short run with our running group. The group was scheduled to run 8 for those training for the full marathon and 4 miles for those training for the half. I thought I'd give the 4 mile route a shot.

It went pretty well. I could tell my cardio conditioning had suffered a bit, but I was managing okay. Unfortunately, my hamstring is still a problem. :( The groin pull is pretty well resolved though. The hamstring is a really high strain, right near the connection to my public bone. Anyway, I was able to run okay, but was very aware of it and then was paranoid that if I kept running I would hurt it worse again. So, I ran 3 miles and then walked in the final mile. It's been a bit more sore since the run although not terribly painful. I think that's my struggle right now. Is this just some normal soreness now from a recovering injury that I need to work through? Or, is this a sign that it is still injured and I need to keep resting. I have two more physical therapy appointments. One is this afternoon so I'm going to really ask my therapist some questions about that.

Unfortunately, the mileage is really starting to climb without me in preparation for November, so I think if I can't get back at it soon I will struggle to be ready. Chris and I talked today and he said I could always cut back to the half in November if need be. The important run is Goofy, so I need to do whatever is necessary to rehabilitate and train for that one. Still it's depressing to think about giving up the goal of a real time-goal marathon.

On a happier note, my girls were at a sleepover last night, so I went out with my two favorite men, Chris and Drake, for dinner out and a movie. Maleficent. It was really good I thought. They TOTALLY re-wrote the story of Sleeping Beauty for it. But, it was beautifully filmed and Angelina Jolie was wonderful in it, so I ended up enjoying it more than I thought it would. At dinner, I snapped a shot of my two handsome men.

I'll update after I've had a talk with my therapist and try to develop a plan.

Gisele, I'm sorry this recovery has been so difficult and frustrating.

That is great that you were able to get a run in. I hope that your PT has good news for you today.

That's a tough thing to navigate, for sure. I think it really depends on the injury and the person. Again, I hope your PT has some answers for you.

That would be really unfortunate to give up your November marathon, but giving up Goofy would be worse, I think. Hopefully you will fully heal soon and not have to make the decision. If you do need to drop down to the half, local marathons will always be there - there will always be another that you can pick and try to PR at.
At dinner, I snapped a shot of my two handsome men.

Cuties!!! Very handsome, indeed.

Good luck at your appointment!! I'll be thinking of you!

Good luck at your appointment!! I'll be thinking of you!

Thanks, Shannon.

The appointment went pretty well. We discussed a lot again about where my pain is and he really thinks it continues to be related to my adducter tendons/ligaments and hip joints rather than a true hamstring injury. He did some easy traction on the leg and it relieved the tightness and pain while he was pulling on the leg, so Chris is going to do that for me at home.

He also put me on the Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill.

This was pretty cool. You put on these tight rubber shorts sort of like scuba type shorties and around the top is a sort of flap all around with a zipper. You step into the treadmill and they pull up the sides and then zip you in. Next they calibrate to your weight and then they set it to take off a certain percentage of your weight. Basically, the frame of the treadmill takes that weight and supports it for you. It's kind of crazy. Anyway, he had me run for 15 minutes at 70% of my weight. The groin felt okay. I could still feel the stiffness and pain, but it was lessened.

I asked if he thought I could run and he told me it was really up to me in terms of how I felt and if I thought it would delay my recovery. So, not a lot of guidance really, but I guess he really can't know how I'm feeling and what I can or cannot do.

So, I am going to go run tomorrow with Chris and some friends and do a really easy 3 miles and see how I feel. Keeping my fingers crossed it feels okay.

Glad to hear the appointment we well! And look at you running on that fancy treadmill thing.

I wonder if taking up yoga or something would help? Is it a flexibility thing with the tendons/ligaments or are those injured?

That's great news! Although I guess it goes back to what you were saying before about being able to tell the difference between injury and soreness. :confused3 I am sure you will figure it out!

Good luck!!!!! Hope it's a fabulous fun! :goodvibes

Well, as promised, I went on a run yesterday morning. 3 miles with an average pace of 11 min/mile. I felt pretty good during the run. I was certainly aware of the leg and had some pain, but it was not too bad. I did my stretches and had Chris do the traction thing to me before and after the run. But, by the time I was done with my bath and preperation for work, the pain had intensified some. Boo! So, I took an ice pack with me to work and iced a few times at my desk and took some anti-inflammatories. Still, I was worried I had sabotaged my recovery.

Well, this morning when I woke up, the leg was much improved. I'd say it's back to feeling how it did before the run if not slightly improved. Yay!!:cool1: I'm hopeful that means that I really am on the road to recovery and that I actually can do some running again. I plan to do another run tomorrow morning, probably just another easy 3 to see how I do. I have my last therapy session tomorrow afternoon and a massage on Friday, so fingers crossed that things continue to go well.

I'm so ready to put this all behind me and get back to training. My beautifully laid out training spreadsheet is in shambles.

Yeah, the treadmill thing was pretty cool. Certainly proves the point that my running will be better served if I can get these extra pounds off! Chris and I keep talking about pulling out our P90X yoga DVD and giving it a try, but we just haven't found the time yet. I'm absolutely certain that yoga would benefit me. My flexibility and core strength has always been lacking. While this isn't just about flexibility, I did injure myself, there's no doubt it would help in my recovery.

In the meantime I'm also going to go back to doing my Firm workout. I enjoyed doing the weights with Chris, but I just don't think it was serving me well. One benefit to the Firm workout is that it is pretty intensive work on the glutes. My physical therapist told me that runners are notorious for hip problems because the front of their hips and hip flexors tend to be overdeveloped in relationship to the glutes and that destabilizes the hip joint. So, he feels that concentrated glute development would help. We shall see!

Either way, I'm feeling very encouraged again. :thumbsup2

That's awesome that the run went well and that you felt some improvement afterward!! :yay: Sounds like things are headed in the right direction overall.

Nooooooooo :sad1: I feel your pain on that one! A beautifully laid out training spreadsheet, is, well...beautiful. Sadness.

I've never actually tried the P90X yoga but I have heard it is looooooong. 90 minutes or something?? I could see why you can't find the time for it.

:thumbsup2 I have heard this exact same thing, not from a PT but from a doctor that posts videos to RunnersWorld.com. Per the video doing some sort of strength training workout twice per week is supposed to be really helpful for runners. Hopefully it will be for you.
Either way, I'm feeling very encouraged again. :thumbsup2
:goodvibes Hope you have a great run tomorrow!!

That is so frustrating to still have pain and not know if it is a "push through" or "will hinder recovery" type. Sounds like you are on your way now though. I bet you are happy to be back to running.

I really enjoyed the movie, Maleficent too. I think it was an interesting take on it. I agree, Angelina Jolie was amazing in it!

Definitely headed in the right direction! I'm much happier these days!!

Nooooooooo :sad1: I feel your pain on that one! A beautifully laid out training spreadsheet, is, well...beautiful. Sadness.
It was very sad. :( But, today Chris and I went through and revised the spreadsheet with a plan to get me back on track with our group. So, hopefully now this one will hold up.

I've never actually tried the P90X yoga but I have heard it is looooooong. 90 minutes or something?? I could see why you can't find the time for it.

Yeah, I doubt we will be able to do it routinely, but we are going to give it a shot on Friday the 4th since we are both off work and will have more time.

Yes, the more time goes on and the more I recover, the more I think he was spot on about it being my hip.

I'm ridiculously happy to be running again. I can't believe how much I missed it.
