Going to give OKW another chance..

we stayed at OKW is Nov. We has several maintenance issue that lead to one night of one of my kids sleeping on the floor with an air-mattress. then another issue with a staple from the furniture injuring my daughter. The entire room was in poor shape. With that said Disney did try to make things right. On the other hand we like the room size. We like we can walk out the door and be right by our rental within seconds. We did like the main pool and kids play area. And we do like being close to DTD. SO we are going for a short trip just hubby and I in May. I am hoping for a more positive experience. I am not sure if I will be kicking myself later or not.

It's good that you found enough positives to give it another chance. We really love OKW for the reasons you mentioned and more.

We had a very bad experience with OKW back in 2009. I complained to member satisfaction and they bent over backwards to make things perfect for my next stay. I've never had a problem with OKW again and have since stayed there many, many times. I have never had a problem again.

I didn't like OKW. I was my first DVC experience and it turned me off. I heard so much about the large room size. We were in a studio the size of a postage stamp. We had a tabletop 12 inch TV. We had no car and it was a very long walk to the buses. Food options were minimal. Our studio was basically a hotel room with Ainu fridge and a microwave. But, we look forward to giving it another try in a 1 bedroom one day.

sorry you didnt like OKW. We like it. I like that each individual housing unit seems miles away from the rest of the world. we like grilling out by the private pool. we like watching the turtles and snakes and ducks out by the golf ponds. but we only go to OKW in may. my husband likes more the hub-bub of boardwalk. i know at one time OKW was renovating. maybe u got caught up in that. hope u fall in love with the peace and tranquility

We stayed at OKW for the first time last October and loved it. The 1bdrm was huge (and DS11 and DD9 loved the separate sleeper couch and chair) and the Turtle Pond area was convenient to HH. The kids loved the pool and we ate twice at Olivia's and enjoyed it. I liked it so much I dream about OKW! Hope this go-round your trip will be much better!

Just curious. Where have you stayed that the studios were larger? I agree about food options and the potential for long walks, but I believe the studios are the largest of the dvc resorts. We just stayed at BLT in a studio and that was small compared to OKW. BLT studios have good storage options however, so it wouldn't turn me off from staying there again.

We originally purchased our first 210 points at OKW in 1995. Maybe because we raised our children staying every year we are a little biased, but there is no place like home!

I've done OKW twice - once with a Grand Villa which was beautiful. And once in a studio. The studio was bigger, but the patio was the size of a postage stamp looking directly into another's one bedroom villa. It just felt very hotel-ish to me and boring. I'm just not a fan and it's my last choice or my only choice when low on DVC points. Too remote, too boring.

Dw and I have been "HANGIN' " at OKW since June 10, 1997.....we kinda like it there......and just 6 weeks from today, we will be there again , anyone want to come and go with?

We love OKW and wish we were staying there on our trip in less than 2 weeks. It was a last minute booking and we could not get it. I remember the days when OKW was easier to book. I guess them adding that sleeper chair added a feature that people like.

I am booking two nights in Aug. before we start a 8 night stay in a rental villa off site. We love OKW!!!

We stayed at OKW in December and it had been a number of years since we had stayed here. We had forgotten how much we love it and missed it. We chose to stay here in December. We chose to stay here again in May (dd is extending CP program will get to see her and help her move again if it goes through).

When we first joined DVC we stayed in OKW studios. They are nice if you like 2 beds rather than a bed and a sofa bed. The patios are very small. We didn't use them. We soon added on and stayed in OKW one bedrooms. The room size and the balconies are amazing! Hope you like OKW better this time, OP!

Our dd did the college program this time last year too. We ended up going down with her the first of Jan. then the end of Jan. we went back.... Had a DVC trip planned anyway. Then..... We went back spring break and the end of May for Star Wars weekend. LOL

We tried OKW last year for a week in a 1 BDR. The size was nice, but we just didn't like it as much as the others we have stayed at (AKV and SSR). We own at AKV and love it. Our expectations were low for SSR as we read alot of negatives, but liked it alot. Our expectaions were high for OKW, in fact I had wanted to buy resale there instead of direct for AKV, but we just didn't like it. I can't really say why, just a personal preference I guess. I am glad we bought at AKV and am looking forward to trying some of the other resorts in the future. We always start out thinking we will try another resort, but often end up not wanting to give up a stay at AKV to do it.
