On the one hand, if you can afford the Lexus, why not make your everyday life (speaking as someone who drives a lot too!) a little nicer. BUT when you consider how much closer those extra $10,000 would bring you to your desired DVC, I would probably go with the Subaru.
One note about the cash for junkers program (just found this out because my parents wanted to take advantage of it). The car you are giving up must have a trade-in value of less than $4500 to take advantage of it (a big goal of the program is to get the older, less efficient vehicles off the road). Dealers who give this benefit to buyers must trash the car and not resell it so if your used car has more value than $4500, the dealer loses on the deal.

I know they are in our future and I don't think our insurance even goes up to $1000. Yeah, don't think about it


I don't know which shocks me more - that she's headed for first grade or that school starts in just six weeks!
