Gnomies Gone Wild

CP -- too funny about the resortitis. It's not too late to buy DVC! ;) Good luck at the orthodontist.

Nah, the family is all excited about snorkling in Key West. I am excited about eating a lot of seafood, drinking a lot of tropical drinks, and seeing Hemingway's house.

I am consoling myself with the fact that I can always buy DVC later on.

I am really anxious about this ortho meeting -- I dread knowing how much it is going to cost. I think that is one of the reasons I decided not to go back to sleep after Nala woke me up this morning.

Is it Friday yet?

Just had to add that Friday is not only Friday this week, but also Chelsea's 12th birthday and Disneyland's 54th birthday! :goodvibes

Key West will be a lot of fun! I am sure of it. Plus you can always do a mini TR in the community board. :rolleyes1

I don't blame you for being so nervous about the orthodontist appointment. I would be too!

Yes, I know it will be -- I already miss Disney though.

I am procrastinating getting ready -- and then I am going to end up running late. :headache:

P---what a sweet picture!!!! Beautiful baby!!!

Jen--Have a safe trip.....we will look forward to any little morsel from you that we can get!

CP---I am crossing my fingers for you today that the braces bill won't put you into shock....and as always, say an early Happy Birthday to Miss Chelsea for me!

Good Morning to all my lovely Gnomies!!!!!!

I have to tell you something funny........everytime I see our new title in my subscription list, I hear Adam Lambert sing "Born to Be Wild" like he did on AI in my head!!!!!! TOO FUNNY!!!!! Yes, he is singing it right now as we speak! Giggle giggle!!!!!

Okay. So I broke down and bought a ticket to go see Harry Potter. I am going to go tomorrow after all of testing is done. My last appointment is at 11AM and I am assuming it will last at least an hour and if I don't get my labwork done before then, I'll have time to go do that afterwards. I bought a ticket for the 3:30 showing. I think that will give me plenty of time to get everything done. I wanted to go see it in Imax, but it's not coming until July 29! I feel like after all my icky testing, at least I will get a reward. :lmao:

I have to agree with everyone C, excellent start to Gnomies part 3! I :lovestruc all my Gnomies!!!

WHEW! I'm exhausted from catching up! OK, here goes responses:

First and foremost! Excellent start Christine to thread #3!!! :thumbsup2 Loved your description of who the gnomies are and I thought all our "confessions" were quite normal items :rotfl: (Ok, maybe we are just wierd!).

LL - how did your craft projects come out?

P - love your digital scrapbooking projects, nicely done!! Tyler is adorable (and I spotted the vera right away :lmao:) Your photo class sounds fun!

Jess- how is Riley doing? Any word from the insurace company? How's the thesis coming?

CP - Key West is a place I would like to go sometime. Resortitis already :confused3 :rotfl2: you are too funny! What's the word on braces? Happy upcoming birthday to Chelsea and Disneyland!

JJ - have a safe trip!

MM - way to go Megs on the bike riding!

Hi Stace :upsidedow where are you hanging out?

Misc -
Back to school supplies always killed my summers too but it's getting to be like holiday stuff at the stores, overkill way to early!
I think we should get paid for merchandise pushing! Just lurk around as many threads as possible and mention products
someone asked about Julez. I talked with her on FB and she is just lurking a bit these days. She said that everyones trips were making her bummed about not having one of her own and she just thinks it's better for her mental health to take a little break. She still loves us all and plans to return to us soon

OK, now I am caught up! I feel better now :thumbsup2

Yay for getting caught up, Katie!!

Gnomies...I need help. This diet the doctors have me on, I need to eat 6 cups of veggies a day. Now it doesn't sound like a lot but when I am eating only 3 meals a day and 1 snack a day....it is. I don't want to eat veggies for breakfast so I am basically trying to stuff in 6 cups of them between lunch and dinner. Any suggestions on some yummy or different ways to prepare them? For instance, Marc made mashed cauliflower this weekend....ALMOST like mashed potatoes. I was in heaven. I just don't want to get veggie burnout and it's already feeling that way. I can't have corn since they consider that a starch. Any ideas or creativity would be AWESOME. :flower3:

Katie, the word on the braces is $4625. I am refusing to think about it right now -- I am in denial. Actually, insurance covers $1000 of it, then we put down a $925 payment at the start, and then we pay $135 monthly for the next 20 months. Not too, too bad when I look at it like that. I do have sticker shock right now, though.

LL, we like to steam our veggies -- are you allowed to put any kind of fake butter spread on them? What about something like stir frying with diet-approved sauce (is there such a thing?)?

LL- I'm always amazed at how quickly the veggies add up when you make a salad! You can use different proteins, dressings and/or fruits to vary the taste enough to not feel like you are eating the same thing over and over. Spinach is also a great addition to sandwiches or sauted with meat or pasta. Stir-fry is a great suggestion too.

CP - yikes  I know they are in our future and I don't think our insurance even goes up to $1000. Yeah, don't think about it

Hey Gnomies!!!

Well we made it safely to Houston, the first part of our trip...we are staying with some friends tonight and then will be going to MI in the morning. Have to figure out which airport we are going to LOL!!! Phillip is out getting corn on the cob which we are going to grill (LL can you eat that)!! I'm also thinking of roasting some asparagus which is another great veggie we love at our house!!!

Well hope you all are having a great day!!

WOW..on the price of braces..it sure has gone up since I had them LOL!!!!!

Yowza braces are expensive! All your KW plans sound great, CP!

LL- totally agree that you need a treat after your tests. Can't wait to hear what you think of HP! :yay: It got a great review in our paper this morning. On the veggies, I have no advice but am anxiously listening/reading for any good ideas as I could stand to eat more myself!

Jen - JJ- glad you made it there safe and sound and that the internet connection is working. Thanks for the update. Enjoy your trip.

Jen - MM - now that song is stuck in my head too! :upsidedow

Hi Jess! How's Riley doing?

Katie - you are a terrific gnomie! Thanks for the update on Julez. Please tell her that I said hi and I miss her. :)

So here's my latest dilemma, gnomies. Let me know what you think.

It's about time for a new car. I've known that for a while. My catalytic converters are "bad" and would require ~1-2K for repair. Can't pass emissions without that - emissions due in August.

So I've been researching. And have come down to a battle royale between my practical side and my superficial/frivolous side.

On the practical side. I have a subaru now - it's been a good car. I can get a "top of the line" 2009 forester model with almost all the features I want (leather seats, built in bluetooth, ipod connection, heated seats etc.) for $25K.

What's the matter with that? Nothing. I like the Subaru. I just kind of want a change. And it's kind of a boring car. And it seems like a lot of old people drive them. :lmao:

On the frivolous side is the Lexus SUV. I :lovestruc this car. Can't afford a new one but could get a certified used - model year 06/07 with ~20,000 miles and *most* but not all the features I want (would lack the ipod connection) for ~$35K.

I know - a 10K difference is a big deal but of course I'll spread it over the life of the loan. I'm very lucky that both are in the realm of possibility (not necessarily the realm of smart :rolleyes1)

So what I don't know and need some opinions on is what would you do? Does practical win? Do I splurge? I spend a minimum of an hour and more like two in the car every day. And while I've never considered myself a car person I just look at the Lexus and smile. :)

Now making this more urgent is my car started to smoke on the way home. I have to take it into the shop tomorrow but I definitely don't want to invest more $ if I'm buying a new one and I'm not sure if the current one will be driveable anymore.

WWGD? What would gnomies do? :flower3:

I'd honestly go with another subaru. The fact that it is new, less expensive and has everything you want seems to me that it is a smarter choice. I hate cars and they do nothing for me so take my advice with a grain of salt. I won't lie that when you said Lexus...I thought no way will she buy DVC anytime soon now!

Jen -- No corn, it's a starch. It's my favorite veggie too. Boo.

Thanks, LL. You're right, DVC is on the "purchase me" list as is a new tv, washer/dryer, fridge, wardrobe and several other things. :rolleyes1

I'm just going to confess that I'm going to have to google to find out what is considered a vegetable... that is how much attention I pay to my diet!! :scared: :rotfl:

I'm with LL.... buy the Subaru...or something similar to it. You'll save 10K plus the car will likely last you longer since it's new.

Don't forget that Obama has that special tax thingy too... make sure you buy something that gets at least 5-6 mi/gal more thn your current car! I think it's like up to a 4.5K rebate and it's only for 'new' cars. Check into the details of that before you buy anything... you may be able to get ALL the features you want and not spend any more $$ than you are planning!

Paula

EDIT: Forgot to mention... cars stink!! Spend a fortune for very little lifetime return..... unlike DVC

Sigh. I have a list like that too.

I am so over veggies. I want chicken fingers and french fries like you wouldn't believe!

You have to watch this. You HAVE to. I want to have a family like this! Seriously this just made my day. And gave me some ideas for upcoming trips... :rolleyes1

I think we need a theme song, gnomies! ::yes::

It's the best thing ever. I saw that this weekend. I posted on Facebook. I should have posted over here.

I was trying to think of a song to do it for.

Thanks for the advice, P. I don't know about the Obama thing so will investigate.

BUT I have to say I'm a little confused... I thought I was dialing the cess pool of enabling here :lmao:

Oh and way to sneak the DVC plug in there! :worship:

Don't forget your non-facebook gnomies! Maybe I am the only one...

I seriously want that family. I want a husband that goofy (in a good way) and kids who have that much fun together! :)

We NEED a theme song.
