GMAC - harassing calls - a little scary

Actually - credit companies only report when a payment is at least 30 days past due. They report # times late 30, 60, 90, 120.

Now that you pointed that out I remember seeing that on my credit report when I last looked at it. However there are different reports out there that it might be listed on. For instance did you know that employers have a special report they look at? Also landlords have one that they look at as well. I was not aware of this until we were trying to rent an apt. a couple of years ago and they told us about it. We were turned down for the apt. and they gave us the information about the report. The average person will never see it only landlords.

Also sometimes on regular credit reports they do not always say how late you are it is just listed as past due. I have seen that on my own credit report in the past. Sometimes they will also post Past Due Disbuted. It also takes awhile for something to post to your credit report. Also just because it is not on the actual credit report does not mean it does not affect your fico score in some way. They use all kinds of information to come up with that.

Our mortgage is with Suntrust, I received a call on the 4th saying my payment was late (I had scheduled it but it sometimes takes two or three days to post). Lady said that there is no grace period. I said that when we took the mortgage 12 years ago I was told due on 1st late after 15th she said, yeah, but it's not really a grace period.

I had a call on my cell today. The message says that you need to contact them immediately about your overdue account...
They don't identify themselves so you push redial and get a message saying they are collecting on a loan - you need to enter your SS# or loan number (which loan number is rather troubling because YOU DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE - they could be cable, electric, CC - who knows - and you don't have any overdue accounts that you are aware of...
And why would someone in this day and age blindly enter their SS# to a 1-800 # on their phone...

Hitting "0" gets you a prompt to avoid foreclosure- ahhh a clue - might be the mortgage company. But why would they call me? I've NEVER missed a payment and, in fact, have been fortunate enough to be able to send them an extra 50 dollars every month towards principal (I know it's not a lot but it sure beats not paying them).

Finally, after much hitting of '0' and a 10 minute wait, you will speak to a person who will tell you they are representing two companies (one being GMAC) that it's the bank's new autodialer and it calls as soon as you are 'late' - seems my payment didn't get there until 3 days passed the due date - but well before the grace period.

Scaring people with a message "to avoid foreclosure" and encouraging people to blindly enter the SS# to a telephone prompt for a payment 72 hours passed a due date on an otherwise up-to-date account (with extra prinicpal!) seems just a little bit scary to me.

I've recently been getting a number of these types of calls on my cellphone about my car. Ha! My car is 13 yrs old, never had a loan, so there is no one to repossess it and if they did well good luck reselling it. But there is a "Push one to discuss this problem with a representative" type thing. Well I think it's some kind of a scam so I just delete the messages.

Well, I got the call of death again the other day but this time they left a voice mail. It was the same message about our TIC (they pronounced it tick, my first hint something was fishy) credit union account. We don't have an account with them. I called my cell carrier, Sprint and they puta block on my cell for that type of texts. I'll just ignore the phone calls.

Here's a funny one.....today I received a call from an unrecognized Florida area code and number. I looked it up and it's in the Miami area. I just called it back from my home number (blocked) and it's a recording saying that it's like an anonymous number businesses can use to solicit you. THis is "legal" even if you're on a do not call" list if you agreed at any time to receive info when participating in a contest, on line poll, etc. It gave me the opt out option after telling me how I was going to miss out on all these discounted cruises, vacations, etc. Sheese, I knew it was only a matter of time before they got around the do not call list!

I had one of those on my cell and we have nothing with GMAC- I used another phone to call the number and there were a lot of recordings- I then looked up GMAC on the computer- called them and explained and they said they did not do it and it was a scam that had recently surfaced! Be careful.
