Well, I have had quite the morning! My dog starting barking so I ran downstairs to see him freaking out and backing up from this

Yep! We had a baby rattlesnake in the dining room! I knew the triangular head and black mask on the eyes was not a good sign - and it was rattling it's tail although I could not see a rattle.

I locked the dog in a room and put a water pitcher over the snake so it could not slither and hide. Called our police and they sent out Animal Control. The guy kept telling me that he bet it was a gopher snake. I said nope - I see gopher snakes all the time and this was not one! Plus I found a google image of a baby rattler that looked like this one's twin! As soon as I removed the pitcher and he got it in his trap pole, he got a better look and agreed it was a rattler! Aggressive little thing - was squirming and twisting to get at the catch pole. He took it outside but had to call for help since he need another pair of hands to get a container out of his truck (I and was NOT going to volunteer!). Another police officer showed up because he heard the call on his radio and was curious! So I had 3 police officers just staring at the snake in front of my house!

After they left, I checked over my dog really well and could see no evidence that he had been bitten. He also never yelped so I was pretty sure he was okay. But I called my vet to be safe. Turns out he is the only vet in the county that carries anti-venom and so had my husband bring home 2 doses just in case we had to rush to an emergency vet. So I have 2 doses of rattlesnake anti-venon in my refrigerator!

It has been over 6 hours so I am confident that we won't have any issues with my dog but now I am scared to go in my backyard! I had the patio door open which is how the snake got in. We live next door to the baylands so we are use to little garter snakes, frogs, etc. in our yard - and sometimes the house! Have even had 5-6 foot king snakes and gopher snakes in the garage but this was a first!!

So glad my dog is a scaredy cat and backed up!

Here's hoping my weekend is much calmer!

Hope everyone has a great mother's day!

Congrats to Micah, Kerri! More money is always good.:thumbsup2

Bridget, I would have FREAKED OUT big time. :scared1:
I had a skunk in my backyard last week. Just caught a quick glimpse of him running through my Birds of Paradise plants but smelled him for several hours. :(

Linda, the weather has been darn near perfect here this week. A tad warm, but definitely open window time. :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day. I am looking forward to my DD coming home for the day. :cutie:

Oh Bridget!:scared1: My heart skipped a beat just looking at your picture. We always have a couple of rattlers every year (not in the house, though.) I haven't seen any yet this year, but what a good reminder to be vigilent. I've had to kill a couple that were on the patio, near the house. Like you, the first thing I do is get the dogs away from the snake. One of my dogs was bitten a few years ago. I never did see the snake that bit her. But I could tell by the way she was acting that something was wrong. I got her to the vet pretty quick and she stayed at the vets overnight. She rebounded quickly. Then a month or two later, I'm pretty sure she got bitten again, but her symptoms were much milder. I couldn't find a bite mark, and I didn't take her back to the vet. I think they must build up some sort of immunity for a while.

This season we're having a banner tick year. Yuck and double yuck. I hate ticks.

OMG! I would never be able to live where there are snakes like that!

Happy Mothers Day everyone!

That snake story is scary! I am not scared of snakes, or at least I don't think I am, but we only have pet snakes here, and the odd gardener snakes. Rattle snakes would probably scare me though. Especially if it was in my house!

I really would like to live in California one day, but the bugs, snakes and rats that we don't have here scare me a little.

Wow! That is so cool!!! When do you plan on going?

So I was up at 7am cleaning and getting ready for breakfast. I made a yummy breakfast of sweet potato & sausage hash, coconut pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and fruit. My mom came over and we all enjoyed a nice breakfast. The hubs is cleaning the kitchen now :cutie:

Last night I went out to a local bar for my friend's 27th birthday. This bar should have come with a warning: "50 years + only!" We were the youngest people there! When I arrived, some drunk, older guy yells at me, "take off your shirt." I ignore him and he says to his buddy,"I need to let the beer goggles wear off, she is probably a man anyways." What an *&^@&#^/! I do not think I will ever go back to that bar again. The bartender was slower than molasses - it took 45 minutes to get garlic fries for our table and 15 minutes to get someone to ask for our drink orders at the bar.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our Diva mommas!!! I hope you are getting pampered :lovestruc

Wow! That is so cool!!! When do you plan on going?

Not sure yet, the rules say it will take 8-10 weeks to get the prize to us. I already have the form filled out and had DH sign it so it's going Priority Mail tomorrow. So excited!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Happy Mother's Day to every mom!! This was an awesome Mother's Day gift for me!!!

Trying to get caught up!

Stacie, that is fabulous!! You always seem to win big and wonderful prizes! pixiedust: I decided to go and check out the link you gave. If I play the "shuffle" game, am I still entered into the big contest?

Snakes!! "I hate snakes!" Bridget, how scary! :scared1: Glad your dog and everyone is OK!

Lisa and Kerri, Congrats on your better half's jobs! :woohoo:

Jen, my goodness.....that is quite the story. LOL! Gave me a good chuckle! :rotfl:

Beth, wondering how your trip was? Didn't know Adam decided to go too! :goodvibes

I think I am partied out! :faint: Kaitlyn's and her best friend's big graduation party was yesterday. Whew, had enough food for 150 people. It is really hard to plan the amount of guests when it is an "open house." Many of the guests had several parties to go to, so they ate at everyone's house. Needless to say, we had plenty of food. Yay....that meant enough leftovers for today! ;)

Katie, that is absolutely horrible about that father. Shocking! Just sad, sad, sad. :worried::worried::worried::(:(:(

Trudi, I would like to be sitting in New Orleans Square right now! :cloud9:

Charma, you were quite the busy bee in August. :happytv: LOL....was that vacation time for you? Ha ha!

Trying to remember what else I wanted to say.

I think all of the prizes are Instant win prizes so you just have to enter every day until May 22. I only started entering his email the last couple of days, I've been entering every day, especially after Courtney posted on FB that she had won preview passes to Carsland.
