Ghost Hunters Thread & Personal Ghost Experiences & other Paranormal Talk.

Planogirl, is there anyway to shut it off so to speak, if you're sensative to this stuff. I figure I must be because I've had countless experiences all my life, and like I said it's even followed me to a new house. And b4 y'all think I'm a major nutcase (kinda makes ya feel like one doesn't it?) - I'm probably one of the most normal, down to earth people you could ever meet. But this stuff is creepy.

Also, does it run in the family? Because my son told me how Grandpa came to see him and had a talk with him. He said they were sitting on his bed together and Grandpa was very worried about Aunt Suzie. DS told me that Grandpa told him that her stomach hurt. He said it was not a dream that Grandpa came and sat with him on the bed.

Well...DS has an Aunt Susan (DH's SIL), and Grandpa could have very well called her Aunt Suzie, but DS has never called her that. Oh, and 2 days later we got a call (completely out of the blue), that Susan was having issues and going in for surgery. We found out later she was dx with stage 4 colon cancer.

I think some are more sensitive to it, does it run in families? good question.

I've had a lot of weired unexplained things and 2 out of my 3 kids have said things over the years that makes me think they too have experienced things. My oldest when she was in first or second grade told me there a little blonde haired girl in white in her room. When my youngest was smaller we tried to have her in that room. I say tried because she wouldn't sleep in there. She kept talking about the shadows and the little boy in the hallway. So we had all 3 kids in one room for a while. Oldest DD moved back into that room and doesn't seem to have any thing going on now, but she will tell me that she will hear footsteps when she is home alone(she is now almost 20) and she swears the house is haunted. She keeps telling me to call TAPS. Do I think there is something here? Probably, too many unexplained things for me, but I also have watched enough GH to know that there is most likely logical explainations, such as high electrmagnetic fields. And since I know we have had electrical issues I tend to go with that theory.

Funny story about my oldest, she must have went to school and told her classmates. Years later I was training a highschool student at work and after a few days he said "Are you A****'s Mom?" I said yes I am and he started to tell me about how he still thinks of her because she told him about seeing the girl in her bedroom and she was so upset about it that it really scared him. Very funny that at 17 years old he still remembered that.

I'm sure y'all figured out that Grandpa is dead right?
I'm not particularly sensitive (even though I believe we all are to some degree) so I can't speak from personal experience. I have spoken to a few people I believe to be genuine who are apparently quite sensitive though and it doesn't sound like this can be turned off. They speak of control and learning to turn a blind eye to it but it sounds like it's always there.

Inheriting this? I don't see why not just like any other trait or skill can involve heredity.

It is interesting that Grandpa may have approached your son rather than you yourself. They often say that kids are real open about these things and maybe that's why?

 It could also be that Grandpa (DH's dad) and I were not that close. He was very close however to Aunt Susan.

Another story that we think involves Grandpa. He was in a coma for awhile due to a serious infection and the family had to make the decision to pull life support. DH was with his family the morning they did this (I was back home in Columbus with the kids - I had just had my little girl so it would have been very difficult to go). Later that afternoon, my son was down for a nap in his room, he was almost three at the time, when all of a sudden one of the smoke detectors started going off. When I tried to figure out which one it was, it would stop and another one would go off in a different part of the house. After chasing it around the house for about a half hour, DH called and I told him what was going on. He had no clue why they would do that. While I was on the phone with him I told him that the last one I heard sounded like it was coming from DS's room. Then all of a sudden it stopped. It didn't happen again until about a month later, I was away on a trip up to my folks to celebrate DS's birthday. DH had stayed home to work. On my son's birthday DH called me to tell me it was happening again. He even called the fire dept. to come see if anything was wrong. Fire dept. came (this part's a little funny) and they thought it was pretty freaky too. They were chased around the house by the alarms, so each fireman and my hubby picked a detector to stand under to see which one it was. The alarms stopped abruptly and we never did get an explaination about what happened. I just think it was strange about the 2 days it happened - the day DH's dad died and DS's birthday. Was it Grandpa? Who knows.

DH's grandma came to live with us back in mid-December. She had lung cancer and needed hospice. We didn't want her to have to go to a nursing home so we asked her to come and live with us. She had a life-alert system (you know, "I've fallen and I can't get up!") that she insisted we set up for her at our house. We didn't really see a purpose since someone was always here but that's what she wanted so we went ahead and set it up. Grandma died on December 29th. December 31st the hospice people came and got the bed and other supplies and I sat down at the computer thinking to myself "Now what else do I have to remember to do?" when all of the sudden the Life Alert system went off. (BTW, it isn't an alarm, when it goes off it says "EMERGENCY, CALLING FOR ASSISTANCE!" in a very deep voice)It scared the bejeezers out of me. I had never heard it go off before. I went and figured out how to turn it off and just thought it was a fluke thing. About 20 minutes later the thing went off again.:scared1: I figured that was a sign from grandma to call NOW to get the life alert system turned off. I called the company and told them we needed to cancel service. I also told the lady on the other end that the machine went off twice within the past hour. She said "Really?" I've been here a long time and I don't remember anyone ever saying their machine just 'went off':confused3 . Then she proceeded to say, well unplug it right now if it goes off again then I'd be worried. (at least she had a sense of humor about it) I couldn't pack it up right away because I had to wait for her to send a box to me so I could send it back to them. That was an uncomfortable couple of days with that machine setting over the TV while I waited for the box to get there. I am happy to report that it did not go off again.

Hi!

I've lost track of this thread a bit and am trying to catch up. Our dog became suddenly ill last Friday and was gone by the end of the day, so I've been dealing with that.:sad1:

Anyway, although eveyone is sensitive/intuitive by nature, some are more aware of it and that awareness does tend to run stronger in some families.

Yes, it can be turned off, for the most part, and it can also be nurtured and developed for those who want to be more aware. I actually teach people how to do both.

I first got into the investigations and took classes because I wanted to turn it off. However, once I began to understand it, and lose my fear of it, I realized it was a really good thing. I have been able to help a lot of people who don't understand what is happening. Aside from investigations, I teach peopel how to work with and understand their intuition/sensitivity.

I just love the Ghost Hunters. They were at Dragon Con in Atlanta a couple of years ago.

Of course that was the year my babysitter cancelled so I had to stay home with DD but DH did bring me their autographs. Even funnier he told me that a couple of people involved with - rats, I can't remember now but I think it was the Ghostbusters movie were there and both groups were throwing rolled up paper back and forth and goofing off.

I don't go to DragonCon much anymore but I sure wish I hadn't missed that one!

I am So sorry to hear about your dog but he too could come back. I was deciding whether or not to tell the stories about my dog because I figured people would think I was crazy but maybe it will help if you hear it. Buster was my first dog and we got him before we had kids. i treated him like a baby when he was little and he was the best dog in the whole world. When the kids came he always protected them and even if my husband spoke harshly to one of them he would put himself inbetween my husband and whomever had been in trouble and was getting corrected!

It was devistating when we had to put him down. Couple of days after we put him down I had a dream, he was running beside the car and trying to get in I opened the door and let him in and I remember how real he felt and that I was petting him and thinking I KNEW he was dead but I let him in anyway. Few days later my older son said that he had a dream that Buster was barking at the window and he opened it and let him in but that he was himself only kind of see through. I always felt he was around but had no real signs until it was his birthday(we always gave him a party). I was laying on the couch in my den all alone and suddenly at around 3 am the tv comes on so loud it startles me from my sleep. I could not imagine what happened and I knew I turned it off. I was really spooked. I thought I might have fallen asleep on the remote but it was in the other room and on a bureau and the part that would turn on the tv was turned away from the room I was in not to mention that there was a thick wall in between. I could not figure it out . Next day I called the electrician ( my cousin) to check everything out he could not find any reason the tv came on .. I called the company(RCA) and SPOKE to one of the engineers and he could not tell me why it came on. When I looked at the calendar I realized it was April 1 his birthday and I had not even acknowledged it. Fast forward the next September I am laying in bed a the dressing room which is next to my room has door parallel to my bed . It begins to open. It is again around 3 am. There was no breeze and NO WAY it could open on its own because I had about 3 handbags and a bunch of other stuff on the door knob and stuff on the floor in front of the door which would have acted like a door stop plus I really had to yank it to open it. AS the door opened it did not just fly open it kind of pulsed like when my dog used to open it with his nose. It did not just crack open either it slowly pushed open and then kind of pulsed like when he would hit it with his tail. The door and all the stuff PUSHED all the way open! I sat up in bed my heart racing and said " Buster, I am glad you're here but you are scaring me." What day was it? It was September 22 the anniversary of the day we had to put him down. At the time I had forgotten Throughout the years little things woudl happen like that and it always happened if I fogot a milestone day like his b'day. The next year my son said lets have a memorial b'day party for Buster ( anything for cake) so we had a small cake. We had gotten a new dog at the time so he got a hamburger cake of his own. Anyway, as we sang the Happy Birthday( I know, I know it is stupid but you will do anything when your child is still trying to cope with the loss of his pet) one of the lights in the chandelier began to flicker. I said to my son, " That is Bussie saying thank you" My son saluted and said , "YOU're welcome Bus." The light immediately stopped flickering and I immediately got on a chair to see if it was loose since none of the others flickered. IT was not loose. In addition it has never flickered again (I watch it all the time) and I pay particular attention to it.

My son feels that once our new dog became an adult Buster never came around again because he felt that we were protected by Shadow. I feel that a spirit did it to remind us of our dog but either way it happened too many times to ignore. I never scattered his ashes but have them in our living room behind the couch. My son now 20(he was 6 -7 at the time) saw the box when i moved the couch this Christmas." He was shocked to know that we had the ashes even after all these years.
I do not really think it was Buster letting us know all these things but I do think it was one of my relatives on the other side letting me know not to forget about our faithful dog and the he was okay!

You know I had a smoke alarm incident too! As i mentioned my dad died a little over a year ago. He always loved Thanksgiving and used to do it up big . In my parent's livingroom the smoke detector is right over my dad's . favorite chair. This Thanksgiving we were all in the living room and the smoke detector went off for no reason. It is NO where near the kitchen and the kitchen door was closed! I figure it was my dad letting us know right before we sat down to dinner that he was still there.

Bella: Thank you! Very cool story about your dog! Believe me, nothing anyone tells me sounds crazy. We had to go the vet to pick up the ashes today.:( We went to Disneyland afterward to cheer ourselves up.

I already had an experience with Kodi, our dog, today!! He always howled when the phone rang and kept howling the whole time the out-going message ran and & while people left messages. It was nuts! LOL!

Anyway, earlier today DH & I were both in upstairs (me in the tub, him in the office), when I heard the phone ring. After a couple seconds I heard howling. Well, no biggie, I thought that maybe a friend, who hadn't heard the news about Kodi, was howling into the phone. People always thought it was funny to get Kodi going, so they would do that.

Later, as we were leaving the house, I asked DH who had called. He said he didn't know, he never picked up. So I checked the messeage and it was a very sedate man calling about renewing our theatre tickets for next season. I asked DH if that was the only person who called and said yes. So, I asked who had been howling when the phone rang and he said he never heard any howling! It had been clear as day to me!

DH did have a very vivid dream about Kodi the morning after he passed. He said he just knew it was real!

Your DH is right. When you have one of those dreams you just know it is different and you know it is real like when both myself and my son let the dog in. I really felt like somehow he was asking permission to come to us.
Thanks for your story and I bet there are tons of people out there like us who think others will think they are crazy for believing these things but when it happens to you, you just know it.

Well I don't think it's crazy. I love this stuff. I can't decide if I'm sensitive or not. I've never seen a ghost, but I have a very strong "intuition" about things. I guess that's why I took to studying this myself years ago.

As a dog lover, I really enjoy hearing about pet spirits. And yes, I do think they have spirits as well (call me crazy too ;) ).

BTW, Diva, I'm very sorry about your dog.

A friend had a psychic party last year. During my reading the psychic told me that when she reads, there are so many pets around that she sits crosslegged on the chair because she doesn't always know which ones are living and which ones aren't and she looks strange if she's "patting the air". She said that she'd done a reading recently when she went into the bathroom, she thought it was strange there was a Golden Retriever in there. When she came out she told the owner what a beautifly GR she had. The owner went white and said she'd just put the dog to sleep.

I had something strange happen myself after I'd put my beloved dog Kayla to sleep. It was a very emotional time for me because I was in the midst of chemotherapy and it happened on the same day I lost all my hair. I'd kept it together pretty well until that day, and then I lost it. What a mess I was physically and emotionally. I wanted a few more days with her to say goodbye but it was an impossiblity. I wasn't ready to let her go, though. I sobbed all night. The next morning, still clutching her picture, I went to the hairdresser's (my SIL).

I got to the hairdresser's a little early. My SIL had apparently told the client she had in her chair what had been going on with me. Because when I walked in, from the mirror, the woman in the chair looked right at me and said, "She's still with you, you know". :scratchin Turns out she was very intuitive (call it what you may) and also a huge animal lover. She told me about all her animals in spirit who she regularly senses around her. She very matter of factly told me/predicted that one day Kayla was going to "show herself to me in a mirror". Ya, right, I thought. Well, whatever, what she said made me feel better that day; it was what I needed right then and I enjoyed our conversation anyway. I did look in mirrors from time to time and nothing, so I forgot about it and went on with life.

Flash forward to 9 months later. I had a new puppy (in sig) who was about 5-6 months old, not quite fully grown. I was laying on my bed playing with her one day when she happened to catch her own image in my bureau mirror for the first time. How adorable, I thought as I watched her inquisitively look at herself. Then bam, for a slit second or two, I saw my beautiful Kayla in her image. I couldn't believe it, but it was unmistakable - the lady in the chair had been right! Wow!

My father was the person who I got my love of dogs from. I believe he is keeping my 5 German Shepherds (and a few others I've asked him to watch over) with him "over there" until I get there. I've just gotten through reading a book on Near Death Experiences and many who've had these report seeing their pets there, sometimes with whoever greets them when they pass. :thumbsup2

If anyone is interested I have a website that I go to where people send in their experiences it's called The Shadow Lands: Ghosts and Hauntings. They also have a list of Haunted Places by State(I didn't realize there were so many in NH and near where I live). I've read some stuff that would make your toes curl! Let me know what you think. Here is the link http://theshadowlands.net/ghost/index.html

Love your story. By the way what book did you read on NDE? Was it worthwhile. I have read lots of them but am always in the market for a new one.

I have not been there in a while I think I will check it out today. Of course I may be crazy my husband is away on business and while I can read and not scare myself during the day, laying in bed at night it all comes back to me. Of course I sleep with the light on.

But there is a way you can listen to past shows. My son put it on for me once but I do not know what he did. I will go to the site and look around. I am alone in the house today and in the mood to waste time since I am being really lazy.:rolleyes1

If you go to the bottom of the page you will find a place where you can click on " ARCHIVES" and listen to last nights broadcast.

I checked it out, pretty interesting. Looked for stuff in my area and one of the spots listed is a cemetary I pass by on my way to and from work. I have never heard any rumors or reports of anything going on there though. I've driven by it at night lots of times so now I'll have to check it out.

I checked it out today and spent the whole day listening to it while I worked on the computer. It made the time pass quickly plus there are tons of sites you can go to from there.
