We have decided to stay at WDW for the two nights before our cruise and since we are short on time we want to be on the monorail. The two options coming up for us are Poly - LVC, which we have stayed at a few times before and really liked and GF Outer Lodge Concierge. Since we will only be there 2 days I thought now might be a good time to try something different. Here are my questions re: the GF -
How far is this bldg from the main part of the hotel with the monorail?
Been reading about remodels, is this bldg effected?
Does anyone have a map of the GF with Bldg pictures?
What request do we need to make so we don't have a huge walk once we enter the bldg to get to our room?
I'm sure I have more ?'s, but this will help for now
THANKS EVERYONE!!!
PS - Feel free to send me a link to a thread with this info,I tried reading the GF FAQ thread but there are soooo many pages!

We stayed in the outer lodge at GF (it's called Sugar Loaf). Once you enter the main building, you exit out the back left side and the Sugar Loaf is there on the left. Not a long walk at all; same goes for the monorail, you exit the building and walk maybe 3 minutes (we didn't even go back in to the main building, although you could) and you're right there.

I don't have a map, but you won't be sorry in the outer building. It was nice and quiet compared to the main concierge area, we really liked it!

The home page of the DIS has maps of all the resorts.

We've stayed in Sugar Loaf three times and enjoyed our stays. The building is not too large but to minimize your walk, I'd request close to the lobby. There are some rooms that open right off it.

When you walk to the main lobby, the closest entrance is into the GF Cafe lobby if you're familiar with that. From SL to the monorail is probably a 3-4 minute walk. I don't know how micmacmissy got to the monorail without entering the main building though. The monorail entrance is on the 2nd floor of it.:confused3

Oh, the building is supposed to be closing for a month or so for the rehab. I think I've read Sept???

Is it this year or next? This year, if you can book it, I'd think you'll be fine. Next year, it should be a thing of the past.

You could ask DRC but they don't always get up to date info. Once you've booked, you could email the GF IPO and ask. Even they may not know the exact dates though and things do change.

But if you're worried why not do the Polynesian? As much as we've enjoyed our GF stays, the Polynesian LVC is our favorite.:goodvibes

this year - last minute i know
We have always thought about staying at the GF, but Poly always wins out since we know how much we love it. Since this will be our first ever 2 night trip, normally when we go we stay for 7 nights, because of the drive we thought this might give us a chance to see if we would like the GF. However if the GF is going to be in a temp bldg we might as well stay at the poly.
GOSH i hope that made sime sense:banana:
