Getting my tattoo tomorrow...(UPDATE W/ PIC post 70)

You say that you have wanted this tattoo for 4-5 years... (Tinkerbell sitting on a word "SASSY")--- in memory of your cat that died a year ago??

How could have wanted this for that long if your cat only died a year ago? I just think you should REALLY reconsider--- I think you could really regret this particular tat one day.... I don't have a tattoo---but I also think tattoos can be really cool. Please don't think I'm judging... I went through a whole piercing phase in college ..I had my tongue, nose, belly button etc...pierced. I look back and think ---"wow--I'm such a different person now!" I don't regret that I did it back then, but then again...the holes grew in and no one knows that I had done that. I'd hate for you 10 years from now go, "Why did I get my dead cat's name on my back?" .... Just a thought....

i'm sure she meant she wanted that particular tattoo for 4-5 years and since her cat died just a year ago she also wanted to add the "sassy" part

it's amusing to me how many people are going on about "you'll regret it" i've had mine for a little while now, i never regretted it. same with my DH and a few friends of mine. it's a person's personal choice.

um--- wow--- I would never compare a memorial to a human to that of an animal... And, yes, I'm an animal lover and have a dog that was my first "baby"....

My point is that I don't think one would regret a memorial to a human--but they might regret a tattoo in memory to an animal... Especially doing something like this at such a young age...

:scared1: i would never regret getting a "memorial" tattoo for one of my pets!! i love my pets dearly!! i still miss my old cat from when i lived at home, and he died about 8 years ago!

but then again i tend to like animals more than people most of the time....

Wait, I thought the accent automatically made all English people high-class! ;) j/k. I love my English friends....they could be talking about the single most disgusting thing in the known universe and somehow make it sound...poetic. :goodvibes

lol i feel you on that! i LOVE English and Irish accents, i could listen to someone with either accent talk all day about nothing....

Oooops did I shatter the illusion!!!! Well I live about 60 miles west of London and sometime sound slighly cockney other times like a farmer!!!! (what I've been told!!!)

And I completley agree the Irish accent is lovely!!! Very sexy!!!! Although I actually love listening to American accents!! Love that New York twang!!!

Accents are great conversation starters everytime I've been to Disney so many conversations start by people who hear my accent I had one little girl about 10 who kept asking me questions so she could hear my accent!! Was very funny!

LiLIrishChick63 - I agree with you sometimes having a pet is easier than some people!! And I love my dog dearly he is part of our family. We all still miss our last dog loads, and he passed away 8 years ago, he was a great dog I would get a memorial for my pet just as I would a family/friend!

Simba928 how you feeling now?? Any pics yet??

I can't wait to see a picture. Last night dbf and I were talking and after my tink we are going to create a collage of disney pictures to put on my side.

Can't wait to see a pic. I'm low class, too. Have three tattoos, one covers my whole back, a half sleeve, and a teeny tiny butterfly that was my first a 18. I haven't regretted any of them. I'd rather be low class over shallow any day. :thumbsup2

Low class here too. I have 5 tattoos and will get another once this baby is here. I have a horse on my lower leg, a kanji on my lower back (yes, we checked many places to make sure it was correct), an Irish Pagan symbol on my upper back, a Russian word on my left ankle, and my "moto stamp" aka my USMC tattoo on my left shoulder. I'll have more eventually, but DH has to catch up.. he only has 2!

I'm officially low-class!!!!! I just finished and it so was not as bad as i thought. Toward the end it hurt a bit from all the wiping and all that but not too bad. It's a totally different design than what i originally wanted but i love this one so much more! I'll post a pic tomorrow wgen i'm on my computer (i'm on my phone now so sorry for any typos or whatever). And i'll explain the whole sassy thing a bit further since that seems to be an area of discussion

Woo Hoo!!!! I can't wait to see it! :) Welcome to world of the low class. :) LOL

I have a friend in the UK that has the Cockney accent, I love it, both to listen to and to read. :) I find myself using his phrases after we've had a chat. :)
I like Irish & Scottish accents, the company I work for was founded by a Scotsman, we have quite a few Scots working here and I love it. So musical and sexy.......love me some Sean Connery....LOL ;)

So here it is!!!

It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It hurts really bad right now, but I'm sure it didn't help that I had to work yesterday. I work at a humane society and all the dogs and cats somehow managed to claw at it. I was holding a puppy and she reached up, over my shoulder and whacked it with her paw. How she did it I do not know, but she did.

And about Sassy...I desperately wanted a cat when I was little. My parents finally gave in and got me one when I was 4. I picked her out of a cage full of kittens and from that moment we were inseperable. She was my best friend. When I couldn't talk to anybody else, she was there for me. I'm not really a people person. I'm not social at all. I don't have a lot of really close friends (I have a couple but not many). Animals are my life. Like I said, I work at a humane society and LOVE it. It's not just a job for me. I am going to school to eventually get into animal behavior. Sassy is my driving force behind all of this. On those days at work (like yesterday) that I wonder why I keep doing this and why I get so involved with and attached to my animals there and consider just quitting, I think about how I used to tell her that she was such a lucky cat and not many animals ever get half the love she got. That's what keeps me going in my job, trying to get as many animals as I can into a home so that they have the same opportunity Sassy had. When she got sick (she was diagnosed with renal failure last October), my dad would not let me take her to the vet by myself, even though I was 18 at the time. My parents knew it probably wasn't going to be good and they knew how much I loved her. She spent the weekend at the vets and I visited her every day and called twice a day to check on her. When she came home I gave her fluids every single night and syrringe fed her when she wouldn't eat. My grandfather had kidney failure for 2 years before he died about 8 months before Sassy died and my parents used to semi-joke that Sassy got taken care of better than my grandfather did when he was sick. On a Monday night, I looked into her eyes and knew something was off. I gave her the fluids and never let go of her. I slept with her for the last time that night and she died in my arms early Tuesday morning. I still miss her, one year later, and will NEVER regret getting this tattoo in memory of her.

OP...just wanted to say that it turned out great! It looks really good for being so 'new' (ie not much redness and such). Size wise, how big is it...I can't tell from the pic.

It looks great! :thumbsup2

I lost a beloved dog when I was 19 and it was heartwrenching for the whole family. I was already going through a really rough time and to lose him hit me hard. I totally get what you're saying.

She's maybe like 3 inches wide and 4 inches high on my right shoulder. I like the size, I think it looks good and proportionate where it's placed but when I showed my mom her first reaction was "Wow, it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be"

Ok that story brought tears to my eyes and choked me up. My DD21 has a cat like that, she found her Stormy in a storm drain all wet, bedraggled and sick with a cold, she was about 4 or 5 weeks old. Cami brought Storm home and nursed her back to health, literally, she slept with her, she woke up every few hours to feed her, she bathed her, she gave her meds, she nursed her until Storm was healthy and she still has her. DD moved to Idaho last year and took her cat with her, one of the first things I asked about when she came home for Christmas yesterday was how her kitty is doing, she said she's OK but she's getting old and doesn't go outside anymore ever. I know how heartbroken she will be when it's Storm's time, I can only imagine you were as heartbroken. Those furbabies sure do make a place in our hearts don't they? I love your tattoo and think it's perfect. :)

It looks fantastic and I'm sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel. Sassy was very lucky to have you

pixiewings, that was so great of your daughter to help that kitty. It is very hard to take care of an animal like that. I, too, slept with Sassy every single night until she got really sick and started sleeping under my parent's bed. I'm allergic to animals (it's gotten better as I've gotten older, but there are still a lot of cats and dogs that I'm allergic to...just deal with it at work. haha) so every single night I would sleep with her in my arms and every single day, I would break out and be extremely itchy on my arms. My parents tried to get me to stop holding Sassy so much but eventually gave up when they realized that I didn't care. HAHA. Hugs to your daughter and her kitty! And I hope they enjoy every moment they have together.

So now the WHOLE family knows about the tattoo.

Mom's side:
When I got home from having it done the second thing my mom said (after "Wow, that's a lot bigger than I thought it would be") was "What will it take you to not tell Grandma (my mom's mom) on Christmas?" Went to dinner Christmas Even at Cheesecake Factory. My aunt called me down to where she was sitting and asked if I got it done. Grandma was sitting right next to her and therefore found out on Christmas. This was before we even ordered and she didn't talk to me or my mom the rest of the night. Gave us a couple looks but that's it. My little 9 year old cousin thought it was cool. My uncle asked to see it then said "It's horrible" (the fact that I have a tattoo in general, not the specific tattoo). So overall didn't go over very well. Christmas day my grandma still didn't talk to me (but that's ok because she hasn't talked to my mom in over a month even though my mom takes her out to lunch and shopping every weekend, but that's a whole other thread)....

Dad's side took it much better.
I walked in the house before everyone got there because I had to work so I just went right after work. I showed Grandma first. She said "That's cute! Just do me a favor" then she leaned in and whispered "don't get anymore". :lmao: Then I showed Pap and he said "oooo, that's nice." (I like that side of my family more ;) ) My uncle on that side was the one that took me to get it. My other uncle gave me cash for xmas and I said to him "This is what you got me for xmas" and showed him my Tink. He just said "Oh, that's cool!" They took it a little better than my mom's side.

Such a great story behind it and it looks very well done.

It looks AWESOME! I love the font--it fits perfectly. Congrats on the new tat!
