Getting my tattoo tomorrow...(UPDATE W/ PIC post 70)

Tattoos look make people look low class, you should reconsider.

I suppose you only stay at the deluxe resorts as well.

OP, enjoy your tat and don't worry about the slight discomfort. I have 2 and neither was worse than a bee sting.

Statements like this make me laugh. I have none, dh is covered. He used to be a tattoo artist. He's looking at getting back into. My son (who will be 17 in a few weeks) has been bugging me for almost 2 yrs. I want him to wait until he's alittle older so he get's something that has a meaning and not just because it's a passing interest right now.

I have 3; one on my left leg and two on the right, all between my ankle and knee (closer to the ankle). I can't say any of them hurt...in fact, I actually like the way it feels! You'll do fine, trust me

You need to calm down somewhat. If you are this nervous walking in, many artists won't tattoo you. Are you nervous or excited?

I guess judging people by their looks is what "high" class people do? :confused3

I've heard from a few people that is doesn't hurt as much as they had anticipated.

:thumbsup2

Most people would never guess I have a tattoo by looking at me. Guess I don't look "low class" enough? My tattoo artist must have forgotten to include that part in the after-care instructions.

OP, you sound a lot like I did when I got mine. I had been wanting one for quite awhile and thought it over and over. Don't let judgmental folks get to you. My husband thought the same thing about women getting inked until I got mine, and now he is rather fond of it and is thinking of getting another one himself.

Wow, you're full of helpful advice!

OP, I have a boatload of tattoos (so I guess I'm low-class...lol), and one thing that I always found helped me get through it was gum. I don't know if it was a distraction mechanism or what, but it helped. I do have a high tolerance for pain so I really only had one that bothered me a lot...it's on my lower back on the right side (so like right upper hip) and I guess because that area doesn't really get exposed to much, it was agonizing. It probably would have helped had I had a more comfortable position in which to sit or lie down; I was basically kneeling backwards on a padded chair, kind of hugging the back of it. So not only did the tat hurt like hell, but my feet kept falling asleep! It was so worth it, though, and I don't regret it for a second.

Good luck, and enjoy the experience!

my nephew had 3 tats before he turned 15  and swears none of them hurt. i thought he was just trying to be macho until my niece got one and said the same thing. she actually said it was kind of like an annoying tickle.
good luck and have fun!!!

what is this comment? i don't even.....:confused3 if that's not the rudest thing i've heard......

anyway OP, i have 3 tattoos(and i want more!) and DH has 4

none of mine were anything too horrible to sit thru and i barely bled all 3 times. i also have a Tinker Bell tattoo, i have her on my lower, mid-back and that wasn't too bad until they got to her wings, which are on part of my spine, that hurt a bit.

i have a bunny on my hip and that was the one that i think hurt the most

i also have a latin phrase on my right wrist it reads: "Non Timebo Mala" which translates to "I will fear no evil"

you'll be ok OP. good luck and show us pix of the finished product!!

OP- you will be fine, you will more than likely feel no pain at all...if anything, I would call it an annoyance more than pain. Take 1 of those vibrating massagers with the little legs and hold it on the spot where you will be getting it done for a few minutes. To me that's what getting a tattoo feels like.

I must be pretty low class as well! Although I am prior military, and currently work for the federal government in a job where I wear business attire to work, hold a college degree, volunteer as team mom for various activities, attend church and live a pretty upstanding life. BTW I have a couple of tattoos- 1 on the outside of my ankle, 1 over my left shoulder, oh and 1 that is a work in progress...it covers my entire back.

Good luck and enjoy your new piece of artwork. Post a pic when it's done.

Good luck and post a picture when it is done.

I got mine a few years ago....and I am old :rotfl: It's right above my ankle. It wasn't the most pleasant experience, but no where near the worst. I would do it again.

Ignore the rude post......you do it because you want it. It took me 2 years to get the courage.....just walking into a tattoo place was the hardest part ;)

I have 3 and the pain really is not as bad as you would think. I'd rather get a tattoo than go through labor again :rotfl:

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my Kitty a little over 2 years ago and I still miss him every single day. I'm sure Sassy had a wonderful life with you.

Excuse me?! How incredibly rude and judgemental!

OP, I am the BIGGEST baby about pain...when I had my tatoo done (three stars on my wrist), I was shaking so much my friend had to hold my hand down! But it was fine! It stung a little and it got to be a bit sore when he was wiping the residue away over the same area, but I was so proud of myself!!! I LOVE my tatoo, and I want another one but I can't decide on anything just yet.

Don't do it, it's stupid and you will regret it. :3dglasses

I have lots of tattoos, and since I AM low class, I'm not offended at all by that comment. ;)

The tops of my feet were miserable pain, but they're a pretty large, all black ink design that's meant to look like henna. On the other end of the spectrum, I'm in the process of a full sleeve on my left arm and during the first five hour go at it, I actually fell asleep twice.

I'm going to join the LOW CLASS ranks of having a couple of tatoos as well. I have a fairy on my back, which was painful. I got that one done when I was 17. And a star on my wrist that didn't even hurt..when I was 19. They don't have any personal meaning to me and I dont regret having them at all. I really need to get another one...it has been 4 years since the last one!

Good Luck OP! One thing I suggest you do is either drink a pop or eat a candy bar before getting your tat done if you happen to be totally freaked...my brother was very nervous getting his first one done that he didn't drink or eat awhile before getting his tat done and he ended up passing out.

Low class inked Disney fans unite!!

I have six, and I'll have to agree with most PPs. It's not nearly as bad as you're anticipating. I got my first one just before I turned 19 (it was an 18th bday present from my mom, and I didn't gain the courage until then!). I had three more within the year.

The only one that brought any tears (and it was, maybe, three) is on the bottom of my sternum. The rest were just the irritating scratches. I did have a mild reaction to the red ink in one of my pieces, but it cleared up fairly quickly.

Bring something to distract you if you need. I always just brought a friend and chatted. My artist is awesome, and he and the rest of the guys are always great at putting you at ease. My last tattoo was done by someone local (my artist is about three hours away). He was quiet and didn't talk as much, but I still felt really comfortable with him. If you don't already know your artist, chat with him or her for a bit before the deed.

Good luck!!!

Yes, and presumably poor sentence structure and bad grammar do not...??

Anyway OP, I just got my first tattoo in August, and I'm already planning to get my second one soon. The pain isn't very "painful". Like most have said, it's more annoying than outright painful. It took the artist about 45 mins to complete mine. It's on my right ankle (outside ankle), and it's about 3 or 4 square inches. It's a butterfly with it's body made of a Lupus Awareness Ribbon (I have Lupus and a close relative passed away 5 years ago from complications from Lupus), and the butterfly's wing has a hidden Mickey.

I wish I wasn't such a chicken. I'd like to be low class as well. I want to be that crazy lady at the nursing home in a few years, where they yell out, hey, can someone take care of the ankle rose in room 2b? LOL.
I actually once went to have one done, but they were too busy and couldn't take me for another week. Of course in a week I was talked out of it, and the fear came back.
