Getting DVC member discount on MagicBand before trip?

I don’t understand why they got rid of their nominal discount on Magic bands pre ordered. The Magic bands are way overpriced for what they are. It’s just grubby. Just a few years ago you could get the bands free. It really was fun receiving the magic bands early for a trip. Dh and I still haven’t purchased MB + for ourselves. We got them for the kids but they are unimpressed with them for the most part. Like they’re not particularly excited about them. I have to remind them, don’t you want to bring your MB? And the charging mechanism is ridiculous.

Personally, I get the sense that Disney doesn't know what to do with MB long term, and enough people likely see it being phased out... They certainly aren't "pushing them" like how they used to, which is why I think the discount doesn't matter to Disney... They prefer you just use your phone, which can track you even more than the MB does is my sense...

AND... with volumes not being as high... they are probably loathe to discount as it affects the overall profitability numbers of whatever person is overlord of the Magic Bands...

I agree. I also think they don’t have the in house tech knowledge anymore to make the MB+ interesting. We are very unimpressed with it. It literally does nothing the other bands didn’t already do except flash once in a blue moon. Wow. Amazing. Not. They should have kept the bands simple instead of acting like it’s a scaled down Apple Watch. I think they were making more money on the simple bands even with giving some away. We have a drawer full of those with all kinds of designs on them. I mean seriously we must have spent $500+ on those, whereas we have only purchased a total of 2 MB+ for our entire family.

Yeah I think they just want people to use their phones. I bought one MagicBand+ and don't plan to buy any more even if I were to lose the one I have. If they would figure out how to make the Apple Watch work with the door locks I would retire the MagicBand+ as well.

I really like the magic band for a lot of reasons. I do think it makes the experience better not having to pull your phone out to scan everything. I dont know why they dont integrate it into opening your room at Disneyland. I just think its overpriced and I refuse to pay $50 without some kind of discount. I think they'd do just fine at 29.99

Much to my surprise I purchased 1 last night, and when I signed on to complete the sale, I received a 10% discount. Not sure why but that appeared before I used DV to checkout.

Where did you purchase it, was this on the Disney World website as part of a vacation, or on disneystore.com?

I really like the magic band for a lot of reasons. I do think it makes the experience better not having to pull your phone out to scan everything. I dont know why they dont integrate it into opening your room at Disneyland. I just think its overpriced and I refuse to pay $50 without some kind of discount. I think they'd do just fine at 29.99

You can usually find them for $10-20 at the Character Warehouse. May not be a design that would be your first choice, but they do usually have some.

They're charging $50 for a cheap plastic band that falls off on rides so people have to keep buying them. They're not going anywhere, don't worry. LOL

This is a solved problem, just use a clasp mechanism like watch bands have used for generations!
