Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

Oh no! You haven't seen anything?! That can't be good.

I'm hoping it's just too early in the day. Possibly they update after regular work hours begin? People seem so sure it's coming...

I had a very busy day. Had to shop, run errands, make dinner, yada yada yada... Help kids with homework, get ready to finally relax.. Ah, cr*p.. It's my new strength workout night on the bowflex & free weights. Uugh! I really wanted to just snuggle up on the couch. But I didn't. I did my 30 minutes+ DH joined me for support. (Pat myself on the back) I am woman, hear me roar!

Good for you! :yay:

I received the Disney Visa offer this morning. It says it will be available to the general public beginning March 17th. We are doing a cruise this year and won't be able to take advantage of it, but I hope it helps all of you!

I agree with the targeted lower abs - AND back strengthening exercises. You'll get better and exults if your back is stronger too. I like the cross curl: Arms crossed with hands on shoulders, bring knee up to opposite elbow, contracting your abds (focused on lower abds), really be sure to cross your body while you do it. 3 reps of 10-15.

Thanks for the good exercise, I'm going to try this!

Shape Magazine put out a dvd with several ab workouts on it. Last night I did the 5 min classic abs workout. It hurt during but I don't feel it today. Not sure if that is good or not :confused3 So I'm at 2/3 days this week so far

How do you all balance your cardio and strength training? Up until this point I've been more focused on cardio and now I want to ramp up my strength training. I get about an hour of good cardio a day 6 days a week. 3 days C25K (about half running at 10.5mph, other half fast walking), 2 days of Zumba, and 1 day of cardiobarre. For strength I've been doing 30min/3xweek of squats, lunges, lots of pilates based leg stuff. Now want to add abs and lots of arms. Should I cut back on my cardio a little or just add in 3 days of arms as well? The problem is I actually LIKE all of my cardio activities (who am I all of sudden???:lmao: ) and I don't want to give any of them up!!

We had this happen our last trip where free dining started our second day. So we booked regular rate at POP for the first night. We had them linked so we were able to stay in the same room; I only had to go to the front desk. I think I went around 6 am. I was so excited I was up anyway :). If you can swing this, I would highly recommend it whether you get a discount or not.

Thank you for the "linking" suggestion; I hadn't thought of that. I'll send DH to the front desk to take care of everything the next day as he is the early riser out of the 3 of us going.

Sure! The same room isn't guaranteed (nothing really is) but they really make every effort to do so.

A few years ago when I was in great shape, I was on a wheat-free diet. Not because I'm allergic, but because it was one simple rule that forced me to eat whole foods (because nearly everything that comes in a box has it) and not load up on empty calorie carbs. I did it for about a year and it was great. I've fallen off the wagon, but I've had yogurt, blueberries, and raw oats for lunch every day this week, which was my go-to lunch when I was fit, so that's progress!

Not a fan of 5am but I love the quiet gym. Also hate broken treadmill TVs that you don't know are broken until you start.

Gah! Walking/running on the treadmill is boring enough without a broken TV! Good for you for hitting it early, though. :)

Yay for getting it done!

I agree about getting up early and it being quiet. So very thankful I only have to roll out of bed, put my running stuff on and go in the basement where the treadmill is. I listen to my ipod and use my ipad for the running app to keep my brain occupied. Add that to the sucking in of the abs and making sure my running form is good and it's a wonder I don't fall off the back. We do have a tv down there but my DS16 has it hooked up to his xbox1 and it's voice activated with just the right words. Way too much of a hassle in the morning.

Have to share. Just ran my first 16 minutes. 8R/5W/8R :hyper:

So boring- luckily the news has the dummy scrolls at the bottom of the screen ;)

Funny I was just thinking while bored on the treadmill that most of this battle is mental- literally training my mind that the physical is not too hard and that I can do it and stick with it. It's definitely my brain that gets me off track not my physical ability or inability. I also try to squeeze the abs while running but that lasts about two seconds and then it's mostly survival lol.

Congrats in the 16 min that is amazing. I was excited to do 3 min running intervals today- seems so long and so hard!

3 minutes is hard and you are doing great. I'm on my 5th week and this was the first time for doing that. It only gets longer from here and I will keep doing my best.

Countdown: 20 weeks to August 1st!

Yeah! We made it another week!

I've been trying to reduce stress and not take myself so seriously... Trying to get those cortisol levels down. One of the things I discovered is a comedian, John Pinette. Do you know this guy? He's usually pretty clean, but he does swear every once in while (so may want to skip if that bothers you). Here's some funny ones. Enjoy!

Love this Quote! I dropped 3.5 pounds this week, I guess my body caught up from the .5 last week! Just keep walking just keep walking. Lol

We discovered him a few years back. Hilarious!!! Had tickets to see him last year but unfortunately the show ended up being canceled. :sad2:

"Get out of the line!" :)

Over did it yesterday - took the dog to the dog park, no idea how far the walk was, but it's a solid 30 min of strenuous exercise. Also did some yoga, and abds, but today I feel crummy. I did some yoga today, and that's it. But it's something and I like the positive direction I'm heading in. :goodvibes

I've been doing good but came home to pizza last night and had too much of it. Also, I'm cooking corned beef meal today and only do once a year so I am having it :scared: will try to do some wii fit damage control while it cooks all day. And my real birthday is Tuesday- is it wrong that I want birthday cake?! Help!! When you are in a good place, how do you keep yourself from going off track?

I had a peanut butter sundae last night. I'm not sorry. And I'm going to the theater and dinner with girlfriends tonight. I won't go crazy, but I'm having dessert--and a beer! For me, the key is to keep moving (I'm on the treadmill right now) and to realize that these occasional indulgences/slips do NOT mean I've blown it. The key is to let yourself "mess up" but to get back on track at the next opportunity. All to say: Have your birthday cake! (And happy early birthday :) )

Instead of cake, buy a cupcake. If you have a shop in your area you can buy single cupcakes and just buy enough for anyone celebrating with you to have one each. Enjoy the corned beef dinner but be sure it's a single serving. Still eat what you like but just a little less. And eat liter throughout the day before you have your bigger meal.

Sometimes you do go off track so you get up the next day and get right back on.
