I lucked out and got notice that a family of christian farmers here in central virginia has started a fresh veggie co-op, you can buy into for $35 a year....you get 5 lbs of fresh veggies of your choice, plus a dozen ears of sweet corn when its available every week, plus a pumpkin during that growing season. They guarantee at least 28 weeks for the $35...sounds great to me! Good way to get stuff I dont grow in my own garden and the list of veggies they grow is awesome!
Your co-op sounds great!
I had a bad night with my knee and the rest of my body is protesting the inactivity. I felt like smashing something last night; I wanted to kick my legs so bad. I hope it gets better soon. We're running out of movies!
Lisa - here's to hoping your knee starts feeling better soon.
Robin - That's great about the veggies! That sounds like a great bargain.
If anyone else wants to see if a community sponsored farm is available near their home go to: localharvest.org/csa It's such a great idea - everyone benefits.
I signed up on-line for a free 7 day pass to Gold's gym. It's about 5 miles from my house. I know they have a woman's only part. I don't know what it looks like though. I went with my son about 5 yrs. ago because he wanted to join. They gave us a tour, but since it was for him we didn't look into the woman's part. I'm going on Monday afternoon.
Diane - thanks for the link. I found a local farmer who will sell shares, but unlike Pony's great deal, mine would be $300 for a full share for the season. I think I need to call and see how much that would be. They also sell 1/2 shares for $150.00. Since the rest of the family doesn't eat as many veggies as I do, that might be better.
I hope you enjoy your Gold's gym. My bosses belong to our local Gold's - but it's not open 24 hours.
Hello everyone. I've not been on the computer, so I need to take some time catching up. I wanted to say hello first as I don't know how long that will take. I'm still doing step one and am mostly having shakes, but occasional step one meals. I made my sausage casserole last night as we had friends over, added some macaroni salad for others as a side and it was a big hit. I enjoyed showing that what I eat isn't so weird, and can actually taste good.
I've got my little baby kitten laying on my arm while I'm writing. She is just so sweet! Not just because she's a kitten, because all kittens are sweet, but she has a lovely disposition. Very smart for her age too! She's eating crunch kitten food now, which is great. When she came home for christmas I was needing to make baby food for her. I think she's grown three sizes since then.

I need to take some more photos.
Last night I wore some smaller pants that I picked up at the thrift store. Still size 24's though. I haven't broken a size barrier in a very long time. My body is rearranging though if that makes sense. The shape is changing. For the better except I have to buy new bras because the lift and separate has become hang and droop.

My waist continues to slowly develop a shape. I'm not worried about it really, it's just an observation on change. I'm well into the 290's weight wise, getting on the lower half of that slowly. To be a size 24 at this weight is really unbelievable honestly. That for me anyway is usually more of a 250 pound clothing size. I have to start thinking about moving back to step two, but I've got to admit that I am loving the simplicity of one. No food cravings, no worry about making sure I have a steady carb supply. It's very freeing. If I go to step two though I could still stay on the smoothies for a while, but change out the cottage cheese for yogurt or fruit added in. Maybe add in oatmeal or one of those muffins using oatmeal flour in the morning. We'll see. I'm not sure I'm really yet. My whole body is doing a general healing from all sorts of things. I'll spend some time today asking god to give me direction without letting my own thoughts get in there.
Well, see I needed to blabber a bit.

Now I'm going to go back and see how everyone is doing. I hope well. Talk to you all a bit later!
Nell - your kitten sounds like fun. My son and I are allergic, so no cats for us. I guess you and I are in a similar place. My current weight is 259 (loss of 25.5 lbs. so far), but I am still in mainly 26's and a few 24's. I am only 5'4" and the majority of my weight sits in my waist/belly, so that is what I am really struggling to get rid of. I hope you are able to listen quietly and hear what God is telling you. Sometimes that can be the hardest thing. It is really amazing how your body is healing though.
Lisa, hope your knee feels better soon. Not sure what is going on with mine. Really hurting today. I am going to the doctor tomorrow for sure. It has a tiny bit of bruising also now. I probably should have gone to begin with, but can't really take time off work if needed. But I can file a claim with Combined at least.
I've been sitting and laying around all day and starting to go nuts LOL. Getting ready to fold a small bit of laundry, but watched movies and napped a bit too. Ready for warmer weather so I can go outside and do things, or even just sit outside.
I'll catch up with you all later.
Kathy - I hope your knee starts feeling better soon. Don't wait too long to go to the Dr. if you need to.
I followed Diane's recipe for nuts in the book and did them on top of the stove. They came out great - I always thought I needed to toast them a bit in the oven. I then put a few twists of sea salt on them. I thought Bob was going to eat the whole batch out of the pan!! I used half Splenda and half xylotol. I read where someone added some cocoa to her recipe, too. Emerald Cocoa Almonds made at home! It might be worth a try and you could use other nuts.
I put some low carb pasta sauce in the crock-pot with browned hamburger and added some of the ratatouille. I'll add some Shirataki noodles to it later. It smells great so dinner is organized.
Jocelyn - your cooking abilities always inspire me! Have you posted your low-carb sauce recipe yet? I did find one low-carb sauce at Trader Joe's and it is very good. I was also able to find some low-carb noodles at our local orchard (which has a small retail shop). It tells me carbs for 4 ounces, but doesn't indicate cooked or uncooked. I am assuming cooked, because 4 ounces uncooked would make a ton of noodles. I think I will have to put spaghetti on this week's menu now.
I will start at the gym with the Ozone pool this week. I stopped by there last week and they gave me a pass for 4 times so I can see if I react to the little amount of chlorine they put in the pool water. I'm not looking forward to spending the 25 mins travel time and the gas money involved but my knees and hips have become worse and I have to do something. Hope it turns out well!
Carol - I hope the new pool helps. Let us know how it goes.
Bob is playing in a large bridge tournament all week. I am going to try and sort through a few more drawers and try to eliminate a few more things I have not used in several years!!!
You are welcome to come and clean my closet anytime!
Good morning everyone! I am feeling better so far this morning. Had a great night's sleep on the couch last night. Mike was up all nite, and he said I had my leg propped up on the back of the couch until about 5am. I started waking up around 5:30, and my knee wasn't hurting at all. I didn't even know I slept like that. I don't like sleeping on my back much. I mostly sleep on my belly, and spread out over the whole bed LOL. But I'm thinking I may be sleeping on the couch until it feels better. Still trying to figure out if I should go to the doctor or not. It's been almost 3 weeks, and it is slowly getting better. It only hurts if I don't prop it up after working all day. If I come home and prop it up for an hour or so, I'm ok. I think if it bothers me too much today after work, I will be going. I honestly think it's a pulled tendon or something to that effect.
Kathy - once again, good thought about your knee. It's funny how you can sleep like that on the couch though.
Got to have a nice long chat with Ken live on the yahoo messenger this morning so that has me smiling today!! Hopefully his connectivity issues are behind us and we will be able to do more than send occasional e-mails for the rest of his time there.
I'm go glad you got a chance to "chat" with Ken this a.m. It sounds like you will spend your entire engagement on the computer.
I made bisquits this weekend with the blanched almond flour I got. OMG, they are great! Added cheddar and bacon bits, hubby was very happy. The blanched almond flour is SO much better for baking. The author of the recipe book I got does not recommend using regular almond meal/flour. The blanched almond flour I ordered online is quite pricey but worth it. If you can find it locally it would probably be cheaper. Let me know if you want the bisquit recipe and I'll post it.
Someone tried to break in the back door at work again over the weekend

The doorjam and lock were ruined. The only thing that kept them from getting in was the rebar contraption that DH put on the inside. I feel like I need to put a sign on the backdoor that says "We don't keep cash here anymore, *******"
I'll check back later
I would love the recipe. So glad the rebar did the job for you! I think you can pick up stickers somewhere that say "No Money Kept on the Premises". Maybe that would help. Of course, when they broke into our law office, they didn't get the $, they took TVs and computers.
I finally broke down and got some of the Starbucks decaf espresso beans. I am now sitting here drinking my espresso. It is sooo good. I'll have to see if I can get it cheaper online somewhere. It is $11 for a pound of it. I may have to go downtown to the local coffee shop and see what they charge. It is freshly roasted right there. I mentioned one time about this place. I did stop up and asked on day, but can't remember how much it was.
$11/pound? ouch. I need to ask our local coffee shop how much they would charge for their house decaf. I really like it, but never make coffee at home.
I went to the gym with my free pass today. I got there around 5 pm. I met with a salesperson who showed me around - it's very nice. There's a woman's only section, but there wasn't a treadmill available. I went up to the balcony area and used one up there. There's a theater room that shows movies in the dark with surround sound with treadmills, elipticals and bikes. I said to the guy 'can you stay for the whole movie?' and he said 'if you can'. That's true - I don't know if I could stay on the treadmill for 2 hrs.

Tomorrow morning I meet with a personal trainer for a free assessment. He will put together a plan for me. If I decide to join I get 2 more sessions with him. It's open 24 hours Mon. thru Fri. I want to find out how many people are working late at night. I wouldn't mind going at around 11 pm (since I can't sleep), but I'm a little nervous about who is around there at night. I'm not an ex-cop like some ponies I know!
I might be able to stay on the treadmill to watch a movie. That sounds like fun.
Well, bad news again...sorry to vent...Dennis was rushed back to the hospital this afternoon, in alot of pain and back on IV meds....OMG this roller coaster is so crazy...I wil be spending my day off tomorrow there with them..
Kathy - it never got to 50 degrees today, so they have lied to me again! It was warmer though...now we are calling for a few flurries later in the week too...I need to geet to Jocelyns FAST before I go crazy!!
Anyone hear anything about Tilapia being not good for you? I cant remember where I read it now, but one of the magazines or websites Ive been on in the past day or two...said it is not only NOT high in the good omegas, but is actually high in some other sort of BAD omega that is not good for you? What the heck? That is one of the fishes I can find here and have eaten quite a bit of! OMG, that bag of it I have in the freezer is going to the neighbors this weekend!! They dont care about their health at all...the junk foodies of the neighborhood!
Robin - sorry to hear about Dennis. I thought he was doing better.
It is so cold here too. I would love it to be 50 degrees.
Never heard anything about tilapia. I googled it and came up with info from a Wake Forest University Study:
Because farm-raised tilapia is often one of the most affordable varieties of fish available at the supermarket, tilapia has increased in popularity as consumers try to merge healthy eating habits with shrinking grocery budgets. Tilapia is easy to raise on fish farms because they thrive under a variety of conditions. Tilapia also do very well on inexpensive foods. This may be the root of the problem. Often, farm-raised tilapia are fed corn-based foods that are high in harmful Omega 6 fatty acids and arachidonic acid. The tilapia stores these arachidonic and Omega 6 fatty acids in its tissues for you to eat when you buy them in a store.
Unlike the healthy Omega 3 fatty acids, the Omega 6 fatty acids and arachidonic acid found in farm-raised tilapia can cause an inflammatory response in the body. Inflammation in the cardiovascular system can cause permanent injury and lead to hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and heart
disease. The researchers also cited asthma, arthritis, and other conditions related to exaggerated inflammatory response as conditions that might be made worse by eating farm-raised tilapia.
Farm-raised trout and salmon remain recommended choices due to their high Omega 3 fatty acid content.
It sounds like it's the farm raised stuff that is bad for you. I did cut and paste from the article. Here's the link if anyone wants to read the entire article.

It was starring out the name of the website, so I added some spaces. When you copy and paste, delete those spaces in the website's name. If you can't get it to work, I googled tilapia bad for heart
Lisa - I'm glad your ankle's not broken, but I wish you felt better. I hope the therapy helps.
I'm sorry if I missed anything important. I'm tired, since I've been sitting here for over 5.5 hours working on items for my Boy Scout Troop Committee Meeting tomorrow night. Everything is finally done except making the copies.
I have a Dr. appt. tomorrow with the pulmonologist to see how it's going with my CPAP. I can't wait to get on the scales and see how they read. I think I've lost the full 25.5 lbs. since I was last there, so hopefully they'll be as thrilled as I am.
Well, good night all!
