george the ghost on pirates of the caribbean

This is sooooo weird.

My first trip to WDW was 32 years ago.

My Aunt and Uncle took me and my sister.

Went on Haunted Mansion and I named my hitchhiking ghost "George"

I'm sure I picked the name randomly. But it stuck. George accompanied us for the rest of the trip - and we still talk about it today.

:goodvibes
omg this is so wierd!
i named the hitchhiking ghost george too!
i cant believe this! (:

I cant wait to say george 3 timesto see what happens!
and plus i have 2 adults that act like 3 year olds
so i should be able to get them to do it with me :rotfl:

I will not lie me and my sister have seen George (or a CM out of place) right in the transition to the fire scene. There was some kind of man just chilling out watiching us as we went along. So i say either George of a lost CM. :thumbsup2

I remember this thread! My friend and I incurred George's wrath when I told her about him, we did the "I don't believe" thing, and we got stuck and rammed. Now she is a believer, and we were telling some mutual friends about George when we were there for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. We couldn't prove it because one of the friends won't ride Pirates, but as we were telling them, a man standing near us said, "Yes, George is definitely real! We've had the same thing happen." I wonder if he's more active during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

I am so glad this thread came back up! I haven't heard about George before. My daughter is really into Ghost Hunters right now and was really interested in this story. She immediately said she was going to call George when we ride in March!!

Love this thread! Haven't heard of George before. I'll be looking for him when I ride POTC in a few weeks!

We've never mentioned George and our boat always gets stuck! I bet someone else in our boat said something ..grrrr. Probably the person taking flash pictures! UGH! :upsidedow

Ok on the off chance that "George" would make the ride to break down (which I don't personally believe), I have to ask... Why would one WANT it to break down?? I don't enjoy being stuck on a ride that is broken down and I don't enjoy being in a line of complaing people when a ride that breaks down and I don't enjoy the lines it creates at other attractions when people leave that line to get on another due to the break down:scared1:

Wayyyy OT, but we were on Splash Mountain in September during MNSSHP for "one more ride" before HalloWishes. Well, the rode broke down, and we had one of the best views in the MK.

So, yeah, I would wish for a ride to break down. But only Splash Mountain. And only right before the fireworks.

Wonder if George could help out with that...

I think we need to start a rumor that George hates flash photography and will shoot a cannonball at you if you do it.

Love it :thumbsup2 :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Last Feb I was on one of the last boats on POTC right before closing and later I thought "maybe I should've said goodnight to George just for the heck of it..." The Davy Jones projection wasn't working the rest of the week

We were jsut there a few weeks ago, and it was pretty crowded...As soon as we boarded our boat, I said ""Hi George"....We did not encounter any problems....of course, my hubby looked at me like I was certifiable :rotfl2:

I just HAD to share a story of something that happened this past weekend.

First I will preface the story with this:

1) Everytime my sister and I go on it, we repeat the mantra "George isn't real" 3 times and we've never had an actual breakdown.

2) I've been going on POTC for 15 years, have been on it HUNDREDS of times, and I can pretty much tell all of the quirks that it has.

My parents and I got on it this past Saturday. Since my sister wasn't with me, I didn't say "George isn't real." We got about 15 feet away from the drop, well before the ramp that scoots you up to the top of the falls and pushes you over. We were still in just the regular floaty water. All of a suddent the boat RAMS into something. There is nothing in front of us, no other boats are close in front or behind. The boat hit against something so hard that we were all thrown forward. And then we just sit there for about 10 seconds, all the while the water around us is just flowing normally. I was sitting on the very left side in the very front row so I had a pretty good view of what was in front of us and there was nothing. My parents and I got really wide eyed and open mouthed and we just sat there. We didn't say anything we were so shocked. And of course the people around us were on their first trip so they didn't think anything of it, but never in my 15 years at WDW have I experienced something so weird! It was spooky.

I work on pirates what you hit was the "down ramp inhibit" it hit the wheels in row 2 on the side. It's totally normal it wasn't Gorge
Code:

It's the general Joe potter it killed a guest in a water mouse, the guest drove the boat into the front of the ferry the captain hit the EStop which threw the boat into hard reverse sucking her under and killing her.

I have no idea if the story has any truth to it, but I can tell you that the CMs really are required to say hello and goodnight to George during opening and closing procedures. It is in their standard opperating guidelines book! Back when I worked attractions, I got to greet outside for Pirates one day (I wasn't trained on opperatig the ride, but they needed extra people so they put me out front.), and I saw the book myself. They told me that if they did not greet George, the ride would malfunction.
We don't do it anymore, were not even alloud to talk about it. A CM told the story and a little kid heard and now were banded from even saying anything.

If there were some obnoxious people a few boats back with flash cameras, I might be tempted- so long as I got off first!! :rolleyes1

I can tell you that I'm 100% certain that this phenomenon is due to the ride system itself. The system engages to maintain boat distance. CMs can also engage this manually for other concerns.

This is an area that leads into a backstage boat storage area. You likely were seeing a CM waiting for a specific boat.
