Geeks go for broke! Updated 2/17: Wrap-up

Sadly, I don't think I'm going to meet my Thanksgiving goal. Between some medical drama, surgery and a few extra writing projects, I was already behind. And then my Dad called me yesterday with terrible news.

A family friend I have known for my entire life died of an embolism. He was a vibrant, active man in his mid 50's. I can't believe he's gone. Everybody, call your friends you haven't heard from for awhile, hug your family and give thanks that you are blessed with wonderful people in your life. You never know when the last time you talk to someone will be.

Look for me soon, I promise I won't stay away for too long. I will finish if it takes me until the 2010 transatlantic ;)

I think that says it...

If you are ever in Grand Cayman, you HAVE to try this shop. I had guava, Sarah had mango and Lionel had lychee. It sounds odd, but it was incredible. And the master ice cream maker is a joy to chat with.

Best ice cream on the planet.

First of all, I'm sorry to read of your loss. {{{hugs}}}

Secondly, I am thoroughly enjoying your report - we are going to Grand Cayman next month and I would really like to find this ice cream shop - can you tell me where it is in relation to where the tender lets you off? Thanks.

Erica so sorry for your loss.
My best friend from high school lost her younger brother to an accident this past summer & it really drove home for me how fragile life is.

Don't worry about us.......we will be waiting for you.

Ok - I am finally caught up.

I am sorry for your loss.

Also, where is this 5 guys burger place. See, I live in Lake Mary. Now you have me craving this place!!! I am assuming it is somewhere by the Burlington in Altamonte...

Love it!

Erica - :grouphug: I so very sorry to hear about your loss. things have been really piling up on you since you got back!!! I seriously was just joking about your "goal" and as stated previously, your updates are so worth the wait!! We'll be here when you are ready!!!!

Erica, I'm sorry to hear about your friend... :(
:grouphug: from us!

Its really easy to find. When the tender lets you off, you pass through a "gateway" security checkpoint somewhat blocked by a concrete wall and chain link fencing. Once you pass that you will find tons of those little portable tent things
where other cruise lines meet for shore excursions. Just beyond the tent mess is a little shopping plaza. The ice cream shop you see above is located right there. (If I'm looking at that picture right...I have pics of the same statue from Tortuga)...Hope that helps!:thumbsup2

Nenner1 - thanks so much - this does help! I love having something for the kids to "hunt for" while we're at Grand Cayman as we're just doing the port on our own. Our DIS group is doing a digital scavenger hunt onboard so I'm making a bit of one for the kids for in the port.

I'm working on a digital scavenger hunt for my daughter and her friend for our cruise in 12 days! :goodvibes I'm curious about what is on your hunt? Are there prizes ? Is it for the length of your trip??? (Ours is only the 3 night) Etc. I would be willing to share my hunt with someone (privately of course)..maybe in return for some ideas or even a peek at someone else's hunt? I've had lots of fun doing treasure hunts when I've traveled with more families and had lots of kids..and help from other parents...the kids have always enjoyed it! This cruise it's only my dd 13 and her friend..so, I came up with this idea as something that might be fun for them...Any help would be "Wonder"ful.... :goodvibes

Hiya Erica and everyone else, too! :goodvibes

Just wanted to let you know that I updated the food trippie with our Tokyo Dining dinner ... the one where Erica and Lionel were kind enough to drive through storms and other things to share sushi with us. If anyone wants to take a read just click on the "We Smelled It, It Had to be Eaten" link in my signature. The first post in the thread has a direct link to each review, including Tokyo Dining ... just click on that specific link and read away if you're so inclined.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! :grouphug:

Yeah... you have to go and tell Bendy what you ate cause that slushy Grand Marinier thing really got to her!!! :flower3:

& by the way...

I think you are BOTH great writers!!!

I think we should put the 2 of you together and see what we can come up with... I'll edit. ;)

Erica - haven't heard from you lately. Hope everything is okay. Just wanted to wish you and Lionel a wonderful Thanksgiving. Il look forward to hopefully having some updates in December.

Hello everyone, I'm still here....I am working up to my next installment which I promise will be out in the next few days! I have a new goal: before Christmas this will be done! :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for the support. It's been a rough week, but it is definitely on the upswing. Thanksgiving helped a lot. And so did your warm wishes.

More soon!
