Games of 60's & 70's you would NEVER see today!

Any body heard a game called phoney bologne? My husband say its a good game. I never heard of it. Love these old time threads. :rotfl: jo

I remember the wood burning kits and the glass cutters. My brother had the wood burning kit when he was around 12. I also remember the clackers. I don't know what the toy makers were thinking when they made those.

My sister is 10 years older than me so I not only had my own dangerous toys from the 60's and 70's but hers from the 50's, as well. :lmao:

Our Mr. Potato Head consisted of a bunch of facial features and felt mustaches/beard, etc with sharp pointy ends that you poked into a real potato. :thumbsup2 We also had the wood burner and if you burnt your finger, Mom would say, "Well, I guess you just need to learn to be more careful, don't you? Here's a band-aid." And those Kerbangers were just a black eye waiting to happen, weren't they?

We had Incredible Edibles too. Nasty and dangerous. Oh, and how about those chemistry sets? I had one with 99 chemicals in it and a little box of instructions. I remember using it when i was 9yo, even using it with a small alcohol burner, and mixing different chemicals to see what would happen. My parents gave me this set despite the fact that there were 4 younger children in the house, ages 1-7.
:scared1:
One year Mom & Dad gave us a wood-burning kit. It consisted of several planks of wood with pictures or designs stamped on them, plus a large "pen" with a 1/2" metal burning tip. When you plugged the pen in that tip would just about get red hot. Every one of us kids suffered burns from that thing. I don't know what my parents were thinking?:confused3
Survival of the fittest? :rotfl2:

I grew up in the early 80's... but still...

Skip It? How many times did I trip myself up on that thing!

And what about that thing with two balls and a balancing board in between that you jumped on? I fell HUNDREDS of times on that thing! :rotfl:

I remember these and I doubt they would be around now! :rotfl: Click Clacks and Atomic Energy Lab. Oh and how about those springs you attatched to your shoes.:lmao:

The Skip-its are still around. We have a ton of them at school the kids use at recess and P.E. Never heard of a kid injuring himself, though.

haha!! Oh my gosh - Jarts!!! We had those. Never would have thought at the time that they were a dangerous "toy", I would just be so proud of myself launching that thing in the air hoping it would go in the yellow circle

I'm also going to say Slip n Slide. I think they might still be around, or some variation of it, but I got a concusion on one when I was 11. No good!

Kerbangers.... oh the bruises that came along with them lol

I think they must have changed the Easy Bake Ovens since I was a kid, I used to burn myself on it all the time.

So did my sister. She put her hand in the "warmimg rack"

The clackers were definetly top on the list.

We had the Jarts and my brother got one stuck in the roof of our travel trailer! It went right through the roof, a neat clean hole! Boy were our parents steamed! And ah, Green Ghost, we used to play that down in the cellar in the dark. So much fun! I also remember a board game that came from a tv show where kids played on a lifesize game board, doing all sorts of crazy stunts! I think it was called Shenanigans.

I'll probably date myself here, but my younger brother had a toy called, "Vac-U-Form" You would put a mold on one side, heat it up and then flip over a plastic sheet and pump out the air. You'd let it cool and you could make your own plastic toys. Somehow, we never got burned.

pinnie

I remember the wood burning kits, basically an electric soldering iron with a wider tip, you would trace the printed picture of the pieces of soft wood to make a scene.

you could buy extra pieces of wood with the pictures for very cheap..of course, we just got some pieces of scrap wood and burned our own designs in them.

wonder what genius thought up the "firestarte beginners kit" hehehehehehe

also, we all had BB guns. (daisy was the best!, then crossman)

and the bow and arrow sets. of course you had to take the suction cups off the arrows so they would go farther, and that was before they even thought of eye protection!

I also remember that you could get a flintlock pistol (Davy Crockett was big on t.v.) that used a single cap, but the plate had a small hole in it that allowed the cap to propel a plastic "bullet" out of the gun.

ahhh...good times (not everyone lost an eye!):scared1:

I also just remembered, Mattel actually had a repeating rifle that used a roll of caps, and had a bullet that consisted of a plastic bullet, and a spring loaded shell, when you chambered the bullet, the cap would jar the clips holding the plastic part and you could actually "shoot" the bullet, then operating the level and eject the "brass" and chamber another round. they had a regular size winchester type, and a special one from the T.V. show "the rifleman"

VERY close to how a real gun worked!

Pinnie, I was trying to remember what that toy was. We used to have forms that made toy cars. I remember that it got very hot.

I brought up the balloon game in the other thread. I think it was called Kapow!

How fun that this topic took on a new life!

I remember the smell of Silly Putty. Loved Gumbi and Pokey bendables.

Loved playing with the toys that were slicky stickies, and came with a picture board. You could place them and replace them in different places. They came with accessories, etc. I had a Snow White one and a Charlie Brown one. I have no idea what they were called.

snoopy snow cone machine. we shredded our fingers and had blood in the ice more than once

They were thinking 'wow the kids would have fun with this". We had this too and we never burned the house down. Kids are a lot more capable then people give them credit for these days.

You never see caps and cap pistols any more. We had hours of fun taking rocks and making the caps go off on the sidewalk. That smell of gun powder after is also memorable.

Remember shrinky dinks? Those were fun but man did they smell when they cooked. There was also those stained glass forms and you'd pour the crystals in and bake them. They were pretty cool too.
