Games of 60's & 70's you would NEVER see today!

Remember shrinky dinks? Those were fun but man did they smell when they cooked. There was also those stained glass forms and you'd pour the crystals in and bake them. They were pretty cool too.

My kids LOVED shrinky dinks. I am pretty sure they are still out there. I know you can get the crystal things at the craft stores.

I want to find those wooden paint by number ornaments--they would come in a box of several with the paints. We used to paint these at my Grandma's all the time.

I remember the wood burning kits, basically an electric soldering iron with a wider tip, you would trace the printed picture of the pieces of soft wood to make a scene.

wonder what genius thought up the "firestarte beginners kit" hehehehehehe

isn't that the truth!

also, we all had BB guns. (daisy was the best!, then crossman)

and the bow and arrow sets. of course you had to take the suction cups off the arrows so they would go farther, and that was before they even thought of eye protection!

ANd we used to take the suction cups off and SHARPEN the sticks :scared1:

ahhh...good times (not everyone lost an eye!):scared1:

snoopy snow cone machine. we shredded our fingers and had blood in the ice more than once

That's what they made cherry kool-aid for. Ask me how I know :rolleyes1

They were thinking 'wow the kids would have fun with this". We had this (word burner) too and we never burned the house down. Kids are a lot more capable then people give them credit for these days.

Yeah, but we were 9,7,5,4,&1!

You never see caps and cap pistols any more. We had hours of fun taking rocks and making the caps go off on the sidewalk. That smell of gun powder after is also memorable.

:rotfl2: We used to do that too. And we'd set them off by burning them with a magnifying glass

How about firecrackers? My dad used to get us wads of Black Cats and cherry bombs and we'd go back of the house and set off fireworks all afternoon. THat all came to an end though when the teen boy next door dropped his light into his front pocket and lit about 50 firecrackers in his crotch. :scared1: Needless to say, that ended badly.

My Johnny Bench Batter Up could get dangerous if you somehow got
your head in the way :rotfl: It happened.

Anyone remember a game called Deep Freeze? You played with ice cubes.
I was getting ready to say it was cool...but groan......
I loved it.

Those wood burning kits are still around. We bought one for someone this past Christmas at Michael's. I'm not sure if the kits from the 'old' days had age limits on them, but the one we got said for ages 14 and up...

Colorforms.

And they still exist. Check amazon!

I got shrinky dinks several years ago. Very much NOT the same as what my mom used with us. Though honestly she was a terrific artist and made beautiful things with s'dinks, so anything I could make would just be sad in comparison.

Pinnie, I was trying to remember what that toy was. We used to have forms that made toy cars. I remember that it got very hot.

I brought up the balloon game in the other thread. I think it was called Kapow!

I think you are talking about a vacc-u-form

you put in a plastic sheet, and it heated it up to almost the melting point, then you swung it over onto a form and pumped a vaccume to mold it to the form, then let it cool.

yeah!!! hot plastic!!!

Sho-Gun Warriors!!! They were about two feet tall and they shot darts out of their knuckles. After you ran out of darts you could shoot the arm across the room. My brother and I beat the crap out of each other with those. DH and his brother did too.

We also had chemistry sets and most of the other things on this thread. I have never heard of click clakers, what were those?

They still have them in some of the cowboy-oriented tourist areas. My dd got one in South Dakota last summer. I remember it was more fun to take the cap rolls out and bang on several at once on the sidewalk, too, only we used a hammer. :rotfl:

My brother and I also had click-clacks, a creepy crawly maker, the Easy Bake oven that let you reach right in to the hot part, BB guns that we'd shoot in the backyard and pocket knives that we'd throw into the ground. :rolleyes1

I like all the memories reading this thread is bringing back! One toy that was my absolute favorite was the 1/2 board game 1/2 automated "Dark Tower"... it was so high tech at the time!

I'll probably date myself here, but my younger brother had a toy called, "Vac-U-Form" You would put a mold on one side, heat it up and then flip over a plastic sheet and pump out the air. You'd let it cool and you could make your own plastic toys. Somehow, we never got burned.

pinnie

I had that too and used it for several years. They would never allow something like this now, but I was careful and never got burned(well maybe just a little when I touched the hot plastic sheets to see if they were warm enough to make the toy).:)

....I have never heard of click clakers, what were those?

2 balls (glass if you are older, some sort of reeeealy heavy plastic if you're a little younger) on the end of strings attached at a tiny handle. The object was to get them swinging very fast, in opposite directions, so that they clacked together at the top and bottom of the "circle" they made in the air.

We used to put the whole package of cap rolls on the ground and drop cement blocks on them. I think we crushed more toes than caps but it was a lot of fun!

Someone mentioned the game "Shenanigans." I played that one time at a friend's house and absolutely loved it. I've looked for it many times on eBay but I'm not willing to pay the high prices people want for them, and some don't even have all the parts.

Why don't game companies re-issue their old games that were popular? :confused3I would definitely buy a brand new Shenanigans (made the same as the old one, not "new and improved" or anything) for $20 or so. I'm sure there are other old games people would buy again too.

ooh, you were resourceful! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

That reminds me of those little "snakes" you'd buy for 4th of July. My parents would light one at a time, and they were so boring, but then we started lighting the whole box at once (or two or three boxes), and it was so much better! All those snakes twisting around in and out of each other! :rotfl:

I remember that. The main snow cone piece is still in the attic at my mom's. I think we lost the syrup holders for it.

A couple years ago, I mentioned the Toot Sweet tootsie roll smoosher thing that came out in conjunction with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She had never heard of the thing (and made me feel old) so I bought one on ebay. It's still awesome.

We used to light those to keep the mosquitoes away :lmao: They do sell those still-even here where you can't get real fireworks.
