Short story:
2 nights 9/28 & 29/08 at AKL, pool view room for $180 + tax = $404 total.
Regular price is $235 + tax so it is a 23.4% discount.
Long story:
I booked room only at AKL for 5 nights starting 9/25. The first three nights I got the end of summer discount ($149 for standard view) and no discount on the last two nights. I thought about trying to make two separate reservations to get the AAA discount on the last two nights, but at the time, I couldn't get the discount if I only booked the first 3 nights.
Then we got the email PIN code for packages that many seem to have gotten. The start date was 9/28. It mentioned room only rates too, so I called to see what I could do.
I told CRO exactly what I wanted to do: break my reservation into two parts so I could apply a different discount to the last two nights. I was put on hold. (The CM I had seemed to need to consult a lot with someone else because I was put on hold several times.) She came back and said ok, and asked for the PIN number, and I gave it to her and told her that it was in my husband's name and that he wasn't traveling. She told me I couldn't use it then. I told her politely that it was my understanding that it could be used by anyone in the household. She put me on hold again and came back and said it was ok. Then she said that the PIN was for packages only. I politely read her the email that said to ask about room only rates. She said that she will have to search for another PIN and it might take awhile. I said OK. On hold again. She came back again and said she could offer me pool view for $180, I said great. She went ahead and booked it, I had to pay another one night deposit and she gave me my new booking number. I asked for my new total for the first reservation and she gave it to me, and I thanked her for her help. The whole thing took a little less than 10 minutes. Yes, I will have to check out and in again and will very likely have to change rooms, but since it's just my daughter and I for a quick trip, it was worth it for me to save $100. (I just hate paying full price for anything.
