FYI: More Cuts Coming

Both sides of Innoventions are ghost towns...except for SoAT.

The reality is that "Innoventions" has never panned out (as a concept or reality.)

The days when a corporation has to (or wants to) display its GEE WIZ pending "big ideas" in a theme park are long gone.

If the idea is "big enough," the corporation doesn't want to tip its hand to the competition, and the announcement/roll-out of "the product" can be handled much more efficiently (and at less cost) via the web and broadcast.

What "coming things" are we chomping to see...
A larger iPhone and a smaller iPad, or a larger iPad and a smaller iPhone? GEE WHIZ!

Back in the early days of Epcot, these buildings (called "Communicore") did feature some (at that time) GEE WHIZ concepts.
But, we finally got (in everyday life) "instant portable communication" and "picture phones"
and we now know that "flying cars" just ain't gonna happen.

The highest and best use of Innoventions would be for a few companies to move their show floor exhibits from CES in Las Vegas to WDW and leave them there for a year. If companies can display their "big ideas" at a trade show in Vegas, surely some of those companies could do likewise at the country's highest attended tourist destination.

What gets exhibited currently at CES is, by and large, lackluster to the general public.

New neon-colored android phones are not GEE WHIZ.

"We went to Epcot and saw a new video game.
REALLY fast cars!"

Consider that the CES used to feature the next big thing in music and video playback.
Cassettes, CDs, SuperAudio CDs.
LaserDiscs, DVDs, BluRay.
The music business is now near collapse and everything that needs to be seen or heard
can be streamed or downloaded. That will only increase over time.

The "next big thing" will be incrementally better compression and faster transfer speeds,
none of which need advanced real-world "demonstrations" to the theme park crowd.

The line, "Move along, nothing to see here" applies far too well.

All that said, CES is one of the highest attended trade shows. Maybe THE biggest. And all the major (and minor) news outlets cover it extensively. So somebody thinks that it is relevant. Either way, a mini-CES at Epcot would be way better than what we have been given over the past 10 years.

You say that as though Disney has "given" us a poor show.

If the corporations that offer the "next big thing" (or just "this year's big thing") wanted to market via theme park, they would do so.
The option is clearly open to them.
Disney does not get any takers on their Innoventions floor space.

How about using both sides of Innoventions to house a slow moving dark ride through space hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson? There are so many interesting things in the astrophysics world that a longer type ride would be very easy to put together.

Using those high-value spaces for a major attraction or two would be very welcome.
For whatever rea$on, Disney has chosen to let them languish, mostly sans purpose.

Can someone explain to me or point me to a thread or website that details what tiered pricing is? I'm not understanding the concept, but before I decide it's no good, I want to learn what it is. Thanks!

I think I get it. Depending on time of year and day of week there are bronze, silver and gold tiers. You buy the highest tier that applies during your vacation. So if we are going 11/1 to 11/10 next year and we have a weekend in that stay and it's gold for whatever reason, I would need to buy gold tickets for the entire visit, even if some days were silver or bronze?

This really is disgusting. Record profits for WDW, ticket prices increasing, Star Wars and Marvel obliterating the box office... and they're cutting stuff because they don't have enough dough? Ridiculous. It's that corporate mindset that is hollowing out what it is that makes Disney World special.

Paying more for the same entry at peak crowd season and less during slow season.

On top of that there have been huge price increases in food, according to Josh at EasyWDW Be Our Guest has seen a 28% price increase in entree prices over the last 3 years.

And Bronze probably won't be less than the current pricing, just less than the new gold price. I would imagine all prices are going up from current prices. I don't think Bronze is going to be a bargain time.

The model is supposedly based on airlines. And airlines do have sales and pop up great deals... I wonder if Disneys version will include occasional bargain rates? Can you imagine how much chatter would go on in forums with that type of dynamic experiences. Constant updates of price fluctuations. I wish that would happen. It would add a lot more drama to WDW vacation planning.
