FYI: More Cuts Coming

Yup.
And, these new tickets will expire at the end of the calendar year.
(But, you will be able to apply what you originally paid for the "expired" ticket to the
price of buying a new ticket.)

Following calendar year. The example I heard is tickets purchased this year expire 12/31/17.

Not chet. But multi-day tickets WILL be tiered in the future. Mark my words!!! ::yes::

I actually don't doubt that .... I really wonder how they are going to work the logistics of that ... I mean think about how many 10 day tickets will span across multiple seasons.

They do it with resort rates now, which can change with the day of the week.

Right but thats easy, hotel rooms are booked essentially on an individual daily basis and you buy a specific block of days. I can buy a 10 day ticket at any time, and then use it at any time. I don't buy it for specific days

They could restrict the first day of use to the season it was bought for. After that the tickets expire within 14 days anyway, so if the ticket crosses a season barrier it's still not too far off what Disney wants. So, basically if you buy a low season multi-day ticket, you can only use it for th first time on a low season date. A little like how they blackout certain AP's from being used on certain dates

I wonder if they even have to keep that model. Why not just require people to log into MDE, pick your days based on price on the calendar, and pay for your ticket. Your ticket is only good for those days chosen like a room reservation. If you don't do this, you won't be able to book fastpasses.

I'm not saying that is good for the customer, but it seems pretty simple to me. It would lock the customers in to a schedule. No running around to other competitors' parks.

If you cancel your trip, you are refunded or given Disney credit like Southwest. Or you could pay $56.00 Per person for cancellation insurance.

I can see all of this happening very easily. With DVC, I would book my rooms, pick my park days, pay my ticket price, pick FP+, make Dining Plans, and book my dining Nightime show packages all on MDE.

Easy!

For all we know the whole tiering thing on the 1 day could just be a big thing to stop you from getting a 1 day ticket. We don't know if they'll do more. Of course if it all becomes like that, they might as well put all the corporate executives in the place of the villains in Fantasmic and have them destroy Mickey (and the characters on the boat as well) because then no matter what you do, regular ticket buying will be a nightmare

FWIW: A few changes starting today, 2 less dancers in Opening Show and Trolley Show and the Sorcerer signup location at Christmas Shoppe will not be staffed. More cuts / reductions due to Shangai's issues, minor cuts (6 dancers instead of 8) but reductions just the same.

I'm very surprised more people haven't noticed this. It's a big deal

Not a huge deal.

If you buy, say, $300 worth of tickets in 2016 and don't use them and they expire Dec. 2017, at some time in 2018 or 2019, you could buy new tickets (likely costing $320, give or take) using the $300 that you originally spent on the unused tickets in 2016 (and just pay the difference.)

It's not my preference, but it's not a "use it or lose it" deal, either.

Does this apply to pre-2016 tickets? Please let the answer be no! DH has a 10 day non-expiry ticket that hasn't even been used yet and he can only take a couple of days in the parks at a time before he gets mega grumpy! Don't they have to honor the terms under which the ticket was purchased?

They don't "have to" honor them, but they always have... and I think that they will continue to do so.

@kennythepirate is reporting that fairy godmother has been cut from mk with no confirmed replacement character.

Oh this is just so wrong. I saw this on Kenny's site and I wanted to cry. Not sure if this is true, but it was mentioned in the comments that two mice would replace FGM and Lady Tremaine. So I guess my fantasy FGM retirement job has been eliminated. Thanks Disney.:sad2:

Someone may have already mentioned this but keep in mind that those attractions that you don't care about kept others busy. When you decrease offerings those huge crowds have to go somewhere...

Islands of Adventure
Universal Studios
Sea World
Busch Gardens
Lego Land
Clearwater Beach
Daytona
Kennedy Space Center
Everglades National Park
Big Cypress National Forest
Castillo De San Marcos in St. Augustine

Just to name a few...
