Please let me know the good and bad of staying at FW cabins. I will be there May 16-22. Is this a busy time of year? Are there any secrets I need to know?

Welcome to the dis and I have stayed there a number of times I love the quiet and the atmosphere of the cabins, it has all the pluses of a hotel room(maid service tv phone ect) plus the kitchen which is great for saving money on dining. The only real drawback is the travel to and from most of the parks the MK isnt a big problem because of direct boat service to the park the boat also brings you to the Contemporary(CR) and The Wilderness Lodge(WL). Have fun and wear something lime green(ribbon, paint samples from home depot) its how dis'er spot each other in the parks. I'll be there the same week. :teeth:

P.S. Check out the Camping board

We stayed at FW a couple of years ago. And, like the above poster said, the transportation is the ONLY bad. However, we had our own car and driving around was not a problem. We even opted to take a bus to the boat marina one morning in order to take a boat to MK.

The cabins are well maintained. My family got a kick out of the rustic looking furniture. Housekeeping was wonderful. They even run the dishwasher - if you load it. You can have meals out on a deck (we did this a couple morning with breakfast). The murphy bed was very comfortable and it was nice having a place to relax after the kids dozed off for the night. In addition, the staff is very friendly and accomodating. It seems as though all the staff goes out of their way to greet you.

You will have a great time.

Well I just wanted to say welcome to the boards. I hope you have a great trip we are staying in the cabins from May 15- May 22. This is our first time at the cabins but have camped at the Fort. I think its such a relaxing atmosphere. There is lots of things to do and I think like the other posters mentioned the only downfall is the transportation but its managable.

If you are walking around and see a Red Ford Focus from CT with a lime green ribbon on the antenna please stop by and say Hi. We would love to meet a fellow dis'er.

That goes for any of the dis'ers who are there at this time.

Well anyways Welcome and hope you have a great trip.

The cabins themselves give more space than a standard room, plus the benefit of the kitchen. The petting zoo, pony rides, and campfires are all great. The cabins are also quiet and relaxing.

The negatives are the transportation, the pools are just okay and you need to catch a bus just to get around the campgrounds unless you rent a golf cart. Not much choice if you don't want to cook as far as restaurants.

It isn't terrible, it just wasn't for us. There are a lot of people that really like them.
