Funniest Ride BreakDown Stories

Are all the 'stops' on HM and Buzz you all refered to actual breakdowns or just stops to load/unload wheelchair guests?

I guess we've been lucky. Other than those wheelchair stops, we've only been caught once - and that was on Test Track, just as the car was supposed to slow down to re-enter the building. Turns out it was our car that broke - but we were only stuck for about 3 or 4 minutes. And we got to ride again.

I was reminded of another interesting story last weekend. We were on the Animal Kingdom tour and finishing off with the safari ride (really nice with no narration other than the guide).

Around the point where the white rhino is just before we get to the lions we hear this loud bang. Almost like a shotgun. The truck immediately stops. Having been on this ride several times, I knew this wasn't planned. The rhino becomes interested and starts wandering over to the truck. It turned out that we had blown a rear tire. The rest of the trip went real slow and we could have sped up a little by the lions since they looked hungry and were eyeing us.

Since all our interesting stories are during the tours, maybe we should stop taking them since they are obviously bad luck...

I can say that I experienced every person's breakdown nightmare. Yes, the one where the ride stops and then you hear some rumbling. Rumbling and twisting and turning and pain...right in your intestines. At first I started to laugh at my predicament. Then after 15 minutes passed and we still weren't moving, I started to panic and sweat. My ex told me I looked pale.

Ya think? I'm going to crap myself on a Disney ride and these poor Disney go-ers will have to witness a grown woman breakdown in hysterics. I could never show my face in Disney again.

Fortunately, with the help of tight butt muscles and fast-working coaster mechanics, I made it to the bathroom. And I tell ya, in the nick of freakin' time.

A couple "memorable" instances...

First, the last 4 - count ' em - 4 times I went on Star Tours, it broke down! Nothing major, but the "screen door" closed, the audio continued, and there was no "ride movement". One time, we were actually subjected to the entire ride this way. Then, they "fixed" it, reset the ride, and we got to start the ride over. Kind of a let down.


The COOLEST incident was we were on TTA, while Space Mountain was down. All the lights were on, and we got to see the entire ride in the light. VERY INTERESTING, and not what I was expecting. Amazing how much the "theming" of a ride plays into it's mystique. With the lights on, it was really nothing spectacular.

A car ahead of us "fell apart ... per the CM".

DD who is now 5 SCREAMED & I MEAN SCREAMED the whole time (OK, she did take time to get her breath) . We had just gotten control of our "car" and we going up the hill in the Robot room when the ride stopped. The lights came on, the chain link rail went up and the music stopped. Our car was turned toward the Robot & it was uncomfortable to stay in the car.

We were some of the last people to be let out of our cars. With her screaming, it sure would have been nice to let us out earlier so others wouldn't have had to hear her primal scream!

BUT, a very nice family heard who were very close to the end of the ride heard her scream and began praying for her. They found us and let us know that they had been praying for ALL of us!. Sure made me feel better that everyone wasn't angry at her for being upset that "we were never goin' get off & the Evil Zurg was gonna get us".

Pirates broke down last year while we were on it. We were in the room where they are auctioning off the ladies for about 20 minutes. We hears "We wants the red head" so many times it was stuck in our heads for a long time. Every time my daughter and I see a red head we look at each other and repeat "We wants the red head".

OMG....that is hysterical!!! That is EXACTLY the same spot we got stuck about 5 years ago!!

Now my DD doesn't even call it POTC....she just says let's ride "WE WANTS THE RED HEAD!"
What is even funnier....... I have red hair and when she needs me at home she will sometimes say....."We wants the red head"!!!

This is a great thread and very timely.
We were just there last week and broke down on the Haunted Mansion. It wasn't so bad to break down nut my ds (7) who hates loud noises and scary music was dared by his older sister to go on. Well needless to say he agreed, but really didn't want to. Anyways, we decided to forgo the fastpass because they said it was only a 20 minute wait, and boys being boys, as soon as we are about ready to board he says "Mom I have to go potty" and started dancing around and holding himself. So I did what every Mother in America would do after they have waited 25 minutes and told him he would have to hold it, we would be off the ride in 5 minutes tops.
Well, we broke down half way through the ride and I thought for sure I was going to be sitting in a puddle before the ride ended. The funniest part was that because he didn't like the scary music he didn't know if he should hold his ears or himself because he had to go so bad!!!!
Well we made it, and we laughed about it the whole trip.

When I was in High School (yes, Disneyworld was open then), we were riding Space Mountain and, all of a sudden it screeched to a halt, the lights came on and everyone was taken out. We wondered what had happened and a CM told us that, on their security cameras, they had spotted someone who had managed to wriggle out of the lap bar and was STANDING in their seat. When you see Space Mountain with the lights on, you can understand why they reacted so quickly. Someone standing would be decapitated in a big hurry!

Me and My DF were vacationing just after announcing our engagement about 2 years ago. There was an E-Ride Night one evening we were there which was great because we only had 2 park days but anyway. We were riding TTA and in the part where it went through space mountain I noticed that something wasn't right. Finally it dawned on me, space mountain was broken down and they had all the lights on inside. I scrambled to get my camera out but I was just a moment too late, as i opened it up, we approached where the glass walls are and all I got was glare. We tried to ride again with camera ready and in hand, but by the time we got back around they had already shut down the lights and space mountain was dark again.

Ah yes, just me...a different kind of horror for you on the HM!!! I'll bet it was the tensest HM experience you've ever had.

I think most parents have been where you were at some point! I know we have.

We were in Epcot a few years ago and we decided to ride Test Track.We got stopped in the hot testing room,and then the cold one.

Our last trip, which was just a week ago, had a really funny ride malfunction. We were on Test Track in Epcot and the ride was going on as normal, but the sounds weren't working. It was just our car though, all the others you could hear the engine and the screeching noises. I thought that was really cool because I never knew that the engine was just a sound effect. The man who talks during the ride just kept saying 'All right' over and over during the ride. I thought that was hysterical. During the rest of the day, and even the rest of the trip, we kept saying 'All right' randomly during the parks. It was a very funny memory.

A couple of years ago, we got stuck on Small World for 35 minutes. Its kinda like the chinese water torture--after about 15 minutes of "the song", we would have done anything to get out of there!

Wanted to visit Blizzard Beach for the first time.

Spent an hour searching for lockers, only to find out we had missed them at the beginning of the park.

Got in line for the chairlift. Got almost to the top and it stops!

Spent 1/2 hour on the chairlift, dangling over the park -> I'm afraid of HEIGHTS!!

Rode one ride (forgot which one) and got in line again for chairlift to go up again.

Got 1/2 way -> ride breaks down again! Spent another 15 minutes or so dangling in the air.

Got in line for another ride and got to the top of the hill with our tubes. Stood in line for 20 minutes or so. It's our turn to go, and a CM tells us we can't. When we ask why, we're told that the ride has been shut down due to thunderstorms moving into the area.

We seek shelter for about an hour, before deciding to forget it and head back to the hotel. As we are parking the car at our hotel, the rain stops and the sun comes out.

So much for our Blizzard Beach day!

My son and I were riding the TTA a couple of years ago during a thunderstorm. My husband and older son were going to ride Space Mountain, so I took the 2 year old on the "blue train". He loves that ride and I needed to relax, since I was 6.5 months pregnant. We began to slow down, then stop. My little boy was starting to get sleepy. We were stuck there awhile, so I watched as he lay down in the seat and fell asleep. Finally a CM came and told us to walk off the ride. I had to carry my son and my big belly off that ride. I am normally scared of heights, but I just prayed and walked. We made it. I have video of him falling asleep and pictures of him sleeping on the seat. He still remembers it! I am just glad we weren't too far from the start of the ride.

I don't think I've ever been on SE without getting stuck. lol And it's always on the steep incline part or the steep decline part...

I too rode through TTA when Space Mountain had its lights on.

The speedometers on Test Track are obviously programmed, not real at all because we stopped about 5 feet from the wall that you "crash" through and when it finally started up again (we were scared to death the door wouldn't open) the computers didn't turn on until the part where we were already decelerating, but the displays showed that we were accelerating (it must have just been delayed). It was the same situation with the overhead displays that show your speed. They said like 20 mph when we were going full speed.

Yippie! I found the end of the thread!!!
My two most memorable stops have been on Spaceship Earth. Not
just "accomadating"stops, but LOOOOOOOOOONG stops.
Once was toward the end, with the old "Tommorrow's Child song...we heard that song a million times that day. If you want to see my mom grit her teeth, just start singing "tommorrow's child, tommorrow's child" Or better yet, I bought the WDW soundtrack!!!!
Once was in front of the romans, with the chariot that runs into the background, and then dissappears, then magically appears and does the same route over and over and over...I finally had to look away, it was driving me nuts!!!
