Funniest Ride BreakDown Stories

I was stuck on Peter Pan at the part where Captain Hook yells, "Help me Mister Smee, help me!" and then he responds, "I'm comin' Captain!"... for a very long time. I was only about 5 at the time, but I still remember it well.

This January, we rode Dinosaur at AK when it broke down. It was actually our vehicle that broke it. The ride stopped and the lights turned on. Not much to look at with the lights on. I was surprised by the lack of scenery. No wonder they keep that ride so dark. Anyway, a technician came to our vehicle and made us unbuckle the seat belt. We then buckled them again and resumed the ride. When we got to the loading station, they asked us if we wanted to ride again. Sure did! Rode again and it broke, again!

I forgot about this until I read this thread. Last September, my husband and I were at Epcot. We decided to ride Mission:Space through the single rider line. We'd never used that line before, but had ridden MS many times, and were short on time, so decided to do it. We got in our cars, and, as luck would have it, he went right and I went left. I was with three others who had never ridden it before, one being a nine-year-old boy who was pretty nervous. I gave them pointers, don't close your eyes, look straight ahead, etc. Explaining about the take off and the virtual landing, etc. The boy was very stressed about not getting his button pushed, so I assured him that if he missed it, the computer was very smart. He was getting calmer that longer we talked about it. As I'm explaining all this, I'm realizing we've been in this capsule for a long time, and nothing's happening. It's dark and the air is blowing (and I'm getting very cold), but nothing else. Then pre-takeoff started, with Gary telling us what we needed to do, then it went off again. We were in that capsule for over 30 minutes. A computer voice would tell us to remain seated (how were we going to get out?) and the ride would start momentarily. Eventually, they came and got us out, and walked us to another ride vehicle. I said I'd rather just leave because it had taken so long, but was assured we'd get right on. Well, another 20 minutes later, and I was finally reunited with my dear husband. (the little boy loved the ride, btw). My husband was panicked. He had no idea where I was, no CM knew what to tell him. He thought we had missed each other, and I had left looking for him (I tend to get really panicked when I leave the bathroom and can't find him, and he thought I didn't see him and wandered off looking for him, which could easily have happened). I felt terrible for him, and we decided, from here on out, we'd avoid the single rider's line.

My family visited Disney in October 2004 - during our visit we were stuck on at least 5 different rides. We were beginning to think we had some kind of electronic force field messing up the rides. Rock'n Rollercoaster was the most interesting - we rode it in complete darkness and no music. COP got stuck between scenes and the audio continued to the next scene (which we couldn't see). We were stopped on Splash Mnt just as we began to ascend for the big drop. Space Ship Earth also stopped for about 5 minutes during our ride and then later the operator of the Pirates of the Carribean ride couldn't figure out how to advance the next car to unload our boat!! I have to say, the CM's were wonderful and it actually became a running joke each time we started a new ride - will we get through this or not!!

I once got stuck in the Tarzan room on the Great Movie Ride for almost 10 minutes! There's only so many times you can listen to the Tarzan yell before you start plotting an escape!

I got stuck in HM twice...once facing the ballroom scene and once in the attic. The attic one was pretty creepy. Years ago, I got stuck in Spaceship Earth. I was riding with my brother and the ride stopped while we were going down backwards. We were on our backs for about 10 minutes. My brother was freaking out (I think he was about 13 or 14 at the time)...and I couldn't stop laughing at him.

:rotfl:

Once while I was on TTA, we rode through Space Mountain and all the lights were on (they were having technical difficulties, I guess). I thought that was pretty neat.

This past summer my sister and I were stuck on Spaceship Earth, right in the middle of going down backwards, for about 10-15 minutes, and she freaked out. To tell you the truth I was a little bit nervous too because we were facing backwards. I was looking for the nearest escape! She says she'll never go on that ride again. Needless to say she loves the Haunted Mansion and we were stuck on that little hill backwards for a few minutes and she loves that ride yet! Also, my sister didn't want to ride BTMRR but I just had to. Thank goodness she didn't, it got stuck going up one of the little hills! *Knocks on wood* Those the rides were the only rides I've ever been stuck on. I hope I don't get stuck on anymore!

...Except I'd love to see Space Mountain with the lights on. Anyone have any pictures or know any links?

Back in 1984, my sister and I went on BTMR. We made it up to the top of the big hill...............and the ride stopped. I thought it was great. I had my camera with me and being that high up, I got some great shots. I had free movement around the seat since when we stopped, the power went out and the lap bar released! As I was turning around, my sister ever so calmly told me that if I didn't sit still, she was going to push me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :earseek: After several minutes, she finally calmed down. Got some beautiful castle shots on that trip. :)

We broke down on Test Track once. It broke down as soon as we exited outside and started the speed run. However, it wasn't speedy at all. We were crawling at like 5mph, but the sound effects still had screeching tires and the speedometer showed us hitting 65-70mph!! We eventually completely stopped about half way around the track and we had to "hang" there on the 45 degree upgrade for like 10 minutes. We eventually got moving and they let us stay on for another ride. For the rest of the week we called it the "slow-mo track".

Last trip we were stuck on space mountain. They turned on the lights and we sat there for about 10 minutes. When they loaded the ride, I was in the last seat of the first car and my husband was in the first seat of the second. We took pictures of eachother and he took a picture of the CM push my car. It is hysterical.

You really need to post those pictures!

I guess this is kinda funny.... I hate the little ghost that pop up on HM but it seems everytime we are "interupted by the spirits" my doom buggie always stops right there... ahhh!

oo my god I just die every time that happens!!! UGH I HATE THOSE POPPIN GUP SCAREY BEAST!!! make me go into shock every time they pop up...I just look somewhere else...i was so mad when they added them to the HM back when they 1st arrived. I can't watch the rest of the ride from then on :rolleyes1

Once we were waiting in the que at SM and we were the next party to hold up our # so of course the ride breaks down! We are sitting there watching the stars go by and seeing people turning around and leaving the line b/c they didn't want to wait. Finally there was only about 20 people inside the building for SM!!! It was so cool.

I was sitting on the line dividers when finally they had to turn all the lights on!!!
As soon as the lights go on the CM jumps out in front of us and goes "OH NO SHUT YOUR EYES!!! YOURE NOT SUPPOSE TO SEE THIS PART!!!" He scared the day lights outta me so I screamed and fell over backwards! But using my fabulous balance skills I managed to catch myself

So we are still waiting and we're watching the stars being skidded over these fiber glass squares painted black. And then we spot these people on the ride just above us shouting down to the people below! We waved to them and shouted back and forth.

Then we watched as a CM walked up and throught the ride. She waved to everyone and played around a bit.

The best part though was watching the people on TTA just look around in aw/horror. Hahahaha.

but it was very fun. its kindda funny how people can be brought together through something as simple as a ride breaking down.

(by the way this was thanksgiving '04)

I love this thread! Princess Wannabe - I laughed out loud about the PeterPan breakdown - I am so afraid of heights that my palms start sweating. The first time my husband, 15 year old son and I went on it I was nagging at him to stop "shaking" the boat - the butterflies in my stomach were so bad! Now you tell me that I was only a foot off the floor - what a hoot!

Our ride breakdown was on Pirates right where they say "dead men tell no tales" just before the drop. We heard this over and over for about 10 min.. Just when I thought I would go nuts a door opens (you can see light from outside for a minute and the shadow of someone coming in a giving a boat a shove and then tippy toeing back out - it was kind of funny. After that we were on our way.

Spaceship Earth. First ride with daughter (then 5 or 6). We stopped three times during the ride and my daughter did not like this. She is 11 now and still won't go on that ride.

This isn't funny, but I will always remember it. When I was 10 or so and my parents took me to WDW my father and I one night left my brother and mother behind so we could hit Space Mountian and a few other rides with out them. Flash forward 21 years. DH, our girls and I meet up with my parents for three days in Orlando. Before hand my dad and I made plans to relive the evening of just the two of us hitting the rides other people didn't want to do. Well we waited waitedin line for Space Mountian we finally get on...we are having a great time. All of a sudden at the top of a hill our car breaks hard and all the lights come on. So we are sitting there for 15 mins and a CM finally comes by and says it will be a few more mins...thank you for staying in your seats....about 10 minutes later the the CM comes back and gives us a push and away we went. Once we were off the ride they gave us fastpasses to get on at any point that night. It is unlikely that I will ever have a chance to go on Space Mountian with my Dad again....I am happy the Disney Magic works in strange way and made that ride with my Dad one that will never blend in with the others. :)

My last trip to WDW, my DH and I took turns going those rides our DD wasn't able to - usually called baby swapping, but darn it they kept giving me back the same cranky kid. Anyway, he had gone on Splash Mountain for the first timte and loved it. I had been on it several years before and remembered it as fun. So one morning in MK we walked over and SM had no wait. Off I went to ride. Well, we got up to the very top, on a stretch of the track that's outside and on a curve and came to a shuddering halt. We waited and waited - probably no more than 5 or 6 minutes, but it seemed like forever. I looked over to my right and there was a narrow maintance path and a not very well concealed doorway, so I figured if we had to bail it would be a simple matter. I was in the last seat of the log and the family in front of me was from Britain. They kept saying to each other that they didn't remember this stop from the last time they rode, but we couldn't possibly be experiencing difficulties because it was WDW. I had to laugh (but did so to myself, lest I disillusion them). Finally the mother turned around and in a voice that suggested it really couldn't be possible, asked me if I thought the ride had broken down. Instead of the usual flip response that I might have given (you know, something along the lines "You betcha skippy.") I suggested that the CMs might have had to stop the ride to load or off-load someone with restricted mobility problems. That made them happy. Sure enough, a minute later off we went.

On my very first trip to Disneyland when I was 5, Jungle Cruise was having problems. None of the animals were moving or doing anything. The CM on the boat really tried, but it was pretty boring. We left before I could ride it again. My parents felt so badly that they took me back the next year - not the easiest thing to do when you lived in New Jersey and DL was in CA, but it gave my parents an excuse to drive different routes out and back and see different things. So everyone was happy.

A few years ago when we were down for a night at the MVMCP we were there with my mother in law who was leery about rides in the first place, let alone at night and a night that was hovering in the 30's. We talked her into going onto Splash Mountain w/ us and we told her that she would'nt get much splash if she sat in the back. Well, in the jumping waters room, the jumping waters weren't jumping, instead, one of the jets was aimed directly at our heads and was not turning off, needless to say we were all soaked! Then on the big lift hill the ride stops, and we are next to go over the top, after a few minutes we didn't think anything of it until we hit the pond at the bottom, where all of the water had been piling up w/ no logs splashing water out before us the wave going over us was like going under a waterfall the hard way, not just seeing the back side of water. At this point my MIL is just about to kill me, I was glad I was in the front seat, when how could it get anyworse, but the ride stops again and we are under the little waterfall just before the last small drop into the paddlewheel room and you guessed it the log is stuck w/ my MIL right under the waterfall and we were there for 20 minutes! We watched the shadows of the christmas parade on the mountain above us as we sat there getting even more soaked. Needless to say, my MIL now will no longer believe anything I say regarding a ride experience. I can't wait for another year when I get to go again w/her and the family! :umbrella:

Whenever my DH goes on its a small world ---- were on it for 20 minutes!!! Needless to say, we don't let him ride it anymore :rotfl:

My son, says he can wait for us on the bench :rotfl:

We've been stuck on so many attractions i cant begin to list them ALL off lol

On Splash Mountain we got stuck after the drop. When you turn the corner and there is a waterfall just before a very little hill that takes you to the final scene with the riverboat. Well that darn waterfall splashes against the stone and bounces into the log...we got more wet from the trickling waterfall (being stuck there for 10 minutes!!) Then we did on the drop. My dad thought it was hilarious because He was on the side across from the waterfall, and my mom and i were on the side WITH it and got soaked!!

When i was 5 we got stuck on the Haunted Mansion, in front of one of those heads that pops up in the graveyard. Was NOT funny then, i was terrified. But whenever we got past that pop up head guy in the ride I think back and laugh

We've been stuck in several areas of Spaceship Earth, the worst was at the end when you are going backwards down the really steep incline. Man talk about a crick in your neck after that :P

When my daughters were elementary school age we were stuck in "It's a Small World" for about 20 minutes. That song, let's face it, is :Pinkbounc annoying at the best of times. We're taking our grandkids to Disneyworld in March, and that is the only reason I'm willing to get back on that ride (for the first time since our unfortunate, traumatic experience.)
