Funniest Ride BreakDown Stories

Not so much 'funny', as annoying, but on the new Figment, we got stuck in the scene where there's nothing but song, and, after a while, it becomes as annoying as IASW, lol

Or, getting stuck/stopped on almost every ride you'd ridden in the past two days...happened to us recently, lol

What was even funnier about our JIYI (figment) stop was that we were the only ones in our attached cars, and the announcement, "Please remain seated throughout the attraction" came on. I couldn't help but think, "Aww, Dreamfinder's with us in spirit!" lol

Must have been a ghost, b/c I believe there wasn't even anyone in the cars ahead of us...

This isn't mine, but one I heard while at the Magic Kingdom last year. The POTC broke down toward the end of the night. Family of 5 including 2 young kids, mom, dad and mom's mother. The breakdown was about 30 minutes of Yo Ho Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for me. The kids were upset and crying softly, the mother in law was screaming like a banchee at the poor dad about the ride breaking down (like he could do anything about it). They were sitting in the back of one boat and the boats were full. Finally after about 10 minutes of the woman screaming the rest of the guests sitting in that boat, and even the boat in front of that boat turned around and yelled at the woman to SHUT UP. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

well, now he knows what to get her for X-mas: a copy of "Monster-in-law"!:rotfl:

My parents and I got stuck on grizzly river rapids. It was just before we started going up the really long hill. Our raft rammed into the raft in front of us, and we all started cracking up. Then as we were going up the hill we got stuck again (for about 5 minutes) , yet this time, I was facing backwards so that was prettu scary...a good memory though.

Corny but good!
Last year on Mt. Everest we got stuck at the top where the tracks are broken. We waited for what seemed like an eternity to start going backwards. Someone yelled asking when are we going to get going. Some man in the fron yelled "NOT YETI".
For some reason this was hilaroius to my 15 y/o DD and she laughed everytime she thought about it. Of course, everyone else moaned when they heard it on the ride.

Mine isn't a single breakdown but several rolled together from a trip a few years back. It started at Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. We are all in line and are stopped three groups short from entering the show. No big deal, we will be at the front for the next show. So, we wait for what seems like an excessively long time and finally we see people leaving and think it is our turn. Then we wait another 20+ minutes before, finally, a CM arrives to inform us there are "Technical Difficulties" with the set and it will be about 2 hours. So, we opt to leave and head to the GMR. We are in line there for about 45 minutes and are in finally inside when a voice comes over the loudspeaker informing us the ride is having problems and will be shutdown temporarily. We wait an additional 30 minutes with no line movement before finally opting out again. Later in the day, after an afternoon rest, we head to Epcot where we wait for in line almost an hour and a half for Test Track. Wouldn't you know, problems again. This time we get out of line immediately and call it a bad day. We get back to the resort and start joking about the problem with the rides being the jacket my sister is carrying, even thought it is 90+ degrees outside.

So, the next day we head to the MK, planning on staying for EMH evening. We ride a few rides when sister breaks out her jacket. We head to IASM and wouldn't you know, the ride breaks down. At least this time we were already partway through the ride so we got to hear that wonderful song for the next 25 minutes. Finally, when we are off the ride we banish the jacket to the backpack and have an uneventful rest of the afternoon. Then it is time for EMH evening. My DW and parents take the smaller kids back to the resort while my sister and I stay with the couple of older kids. By this time it is cooling off so my sister opts to keep her jacket with her. We head to BTM and wouldn't you know, it is broke down when we get there and the CM is telling everyone it may not run the rest of the evening. So we cross the park, grab a quick bite to eat and head the Space Mountain. After being in line about 30 minutes the ominous voice again tells us they are having difficulties and expect the ride to be down for the next 30 minutes to and hour. Finally, I have had enough. After 6 ride breakdowns in less than two days, I grab the jacket from my sister, jump across the rail to the fast pass side of the ride and throw the jacket in the first garbage can I come to and head back through the fast pass side of the line to get the rest of my party. Amazingly, the ride has been fixed by the time I get back to them in line. For the rest of the trip we had no issues with breakdowns, although I did have to buy a new jacket for my sister. All things being equal, I felt it was worth it.

Two years ago my family and I (mom, dad, sis, brother, DH, and I) were all riding Test Track. We had just exited the inside part and were starting the fast part outside, when suddenly the ride slowly halted to a stop. We were all tilted to the left side. We were the only ones sitting in the outside part--anxiously awaiting for someone to plow into us, or for the ride to suddenly take off!:lmao: We were cracking up and holding on for dear life as we all leaned to the side and tried not to put our weight on each other. After 7 minutes it took off, got up to 65 miles per hour and the ride ended as usual. They let us ride again, but we will never forget this. Luckily, we had the video camera going the entire time, so we will always have great memories of this!:rotfl2:

I hate getting stuck on TT when you are slanted to the side. It's not a very good feeling.:lmao:

Most recently, I was in DL...so I hope it's okay to post these two here...quite funny!

I was on HM with my mom, and we got stuck right in front of those 4 heads that sing...OMG.....we were stuck for about 15 min, it seemed like an hour, and that song was in my head all day long!!! :lmao:

The next breakdown on that day was on POTC, and we were stuck literally right in front of the scene where the pirate is laying on the cannon, and holding a hand gun (not sure if it's different in WDW, can't remember). I kept ducking thinking i was going to get shot in the head by a crazy pirate!!! :rotfl:

When we were on Tower of Terror a couple of years ago, the elevator car went to the top, rolled out through the hotel and went into the elevator shaft. Then we just sat there...and sat there. No one said anything for the longest time. I'm sure that, like me, they thought that as soon as they started to say something, we would drop. Finally, after what seemed like several minutes, but was probably only a couple, men pulled us out of the elevator shaft from behind. After we back near the other elevator shaft, we exited the car and rode down on the service elevator. We were put right back on another car. Only one woman opted out of riding after the incident.

This one actually happened to my brother and my dad...

My family was at Magic Kingdom one night, and we decided to split up. My mom and I staked out a spot for Spectromagic, and my dad and my bro went to go ride Splash Mountain for the first time. Apparently when they got there, the ride was shut down for awhile due to "technical difficulties." They decided to stay and wait for it to come back up, as they had nothing better to do. While they were standing there, they kept hearing a voice say "I say" over and over again, and they had no idea who was saying it. When they finally got on the ride, they realized it was the frog animatronic during the ride. When they came and found my mom and me, they told us about "the frog who kept saying 'I say' over and over again." For the rest of the vacation, my brother and dad would say "I say" at random times. :rotfl:

Also, my mom and I decided to get on POTC because there was barely a wait and we needed to kill some time. We basically got right on the ride, and we were enjoying it until we got stuck right near the end where they sing A Pirates Life For Me. We were stuck on that ride for 30 minutes with that song playing the whole time. It was so unbelievably annoying and I had that stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Last July we where enjoying our very first EMH at the magic kingdom and mom wanted to go on jungle cruise as that was my must do ride. We have 2 hrs left so im thinking do jungle cruise then go back to my little guys fav ride splash mountain. We get to the line area and there is none so we hop right on and moms happy. My son was all smiles and I was happy I got to take him on the jungle cruise. Just as moms saying dont worry we have tons of time to go on splash mountain the ride breaks down. The boat in front of ours stalled in the tunnel and could not move. We could not go back as there where boats comming up behind us so we are all stuck in the begining tunnel for 45 mins in the humidity. My sons really calm and he turns to the skipper and says "See what happens when you let peaple stay in the parks you dont get to fix the rides." Everyone on the boat laffs and after many corny jokes and such they finally get the boat moving and away we go. We got to still ride splash mountain but my then there was no line at all so we just kept going on it over and over till they told us no more . We are going back in july I will ask my son if he wants to go on the jungle cruise agian LOL just to see his face.

I guess our funniest breakdown was on POTC. We were taking the Keys to the Kingdom tour and that was the ride we were on. It turns out we were the offending boat that caused all the others to stop as well. The CM come out and everyone has to put their arms in the air and rock back and forth.

We get unstuck and go about 6 inches and we get stuck again. So we had to do the arm waving rocking again and they told us not to stop as quickly this time. We made it to the end finally but it was definately an interesting experience. We made sure to harass our fearless leader since we were sure that he planned the whole thing.
Reminds me of the time I went on the Keys Tour. We also rode POTC and our boat got stopped by a bumper. On the left a curtain had been opened and we saw a CM putting more boats onto the ride. Not a break down but cool, especially considering we were on a Backstage tour and saw a part they weren't planning to show us.

The main breakdown I can remember is one time on HM a few years later. We were in the room with the organ with no player and the ride stopped. After a while the organ started driving me nuts. I don't know if it was an actual breakdown or was stopped for a handicapped person to board.
