Funniest Ride BreakDown Stories

it's funny now but at the time i really thought we were going to die. last summer we were on ToT and we did all the dropping and hit the bottom. the ending voice over came on welcoming us back. this is when your cart usually moves back and spins and the doors open. this did NOT happen. our cart slightly moved back but that is all. the lights went out there was no sound. we sat in total dark silence for about a minute and we all weer concerned. we all got quiet and you could actually hearing the other cars dropping over head so i became hysterical thinking one would land on us. everyone riding with us seemed nervous and i began to scream "THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS" after the longest 3 mins of my life our elevator finally turned and we got off. the CM and other riders all joked about my comment. later that nite at fantasmic i heard people discussing the happy thoughts girl.

We too have been stuck on more then one ride, the best was buzz lightyear because we were all able to max out our point totals.I think the worst(because of heat)was the Kali river rapids. We had just reached the last drop when the ride stopped. It was a hot august day and we were stuck near the flames. The next thing we noticed was they were draining all the water out of the river. When all the water was gone they brought us a ladder and we climbed down and walked down the hill (behind the scenes)to the entrance. We were all met with icecold water bottles and passes to ride again. In the end it was a nice experience and we had a good :love2: laugh with the people we had just met.

Only been stuck on a few rides. But my favorite is when we get stuck on Spaceship Earth and the seats are backwards. I kind of scouch down... and , you know... fall asleep... It was a long day! I must have gotten a good 20-30 min nap with all the breakdowns on that ride last trip.
I was going up the Swiss Family treehouse at Disneyland many, many years ago and we had to detour around some parts of it. That was strange...
And also at Disneyland the old Sky Tram thing allways broke down with me on it... I HATE heights!
The POTC ride at Tokyo Disney broke a couple times, once heading down the ramp, and once just befor we were to get off... we could see the disenbark area... so close, but so far away..
And is it just me or does any one else imed. need to visit the restroom when these things happen? or one of the kids really needs to?

A long time ago I got stuck on Space mountain just before you start to go down a hill. They turned on all the lights and it looks much better in the dark! It is just a steel frame rollercoaster in a dome shaped room. A CM came out and told everyone to stay seated and then they turned off the lights and continued the ride.

About an month ago on the Pirates at Disneyland the ride stopped right at the end where the dog has the keys and the logs are creaking above your head. It turned out the boat 2 lengths ahead of us had some foreigners on it and one lady was pregnant. When the boat stopped to go up the chains to the end she thought it was the end of the ride and got off! After a couple of minutes the lights came on and there were security everywhere. Apparently because she didn't understand English she didn't know what they were saying and started walking through the props and then she got scared because they were chasing her. Everyone is the boats ahead of us were yelling to them were she was. We never saw her get back on the boat. We thought it was a crazy person or a kid and were surprised when we found out it was an adult. My kids thought it was neat to have the lights on and sound turned off.

I ALWAYS get stopped on Spaceship Earth going backwards. Every single time I have ridden it and it feels like it is in the steepest part.

I come to expect it now and in fact I think I would be disappointed if I didn't get stuck, its almost a ritual now :)

During our last trip in June '04 POTC broke down for about 5 minutes during the last scene before the ride ends. It wasn't a long wait though so we really didn't mind. During that same trip, my best friend and I rode RnR 9 times in one day and during one of those times the ride didn't break but the music wasn't working at all. It was just really weird because I'm used to hearing Steve Tyler shriek "5, 4, 3, 2," and then you take off. But there wasn't anything. I'm a really paranoid person and so I was freaking out the whole time thinking the ride was going to break right when we were going upside down and that the restraints would come off and we'd all die. Like I said, I'm paranoid  :teeth: But I still ended up riding it a bunch of times after that and it didn't happen again.

I was on Test Track a few years ago when it broke down. The poor , unfortunate souls who were win the two cars in front were stuck - one in the "HOT" zone and one in the "COLD" zone - How bad must that have been for them? I don't know which one would have been worst?

My DH and I were on splash mountain, just after the drop and you go around that short turn. There is a place where some of the workers will sit on the left hand side. For some reason the ride stopped for just a couple of minutes and my husband tried to reach down and touch the water. The lady sitting on the stool told him to please keep his hands inside the vehicle, and my DH screamed like a girl. It was better then the ride itself!

that was funny the post above me

when the Dinosaur ride broke down for the 2nd time (while we were in line), everyone was getting frustrated, one of the CM's started talking about some silly simple secrets - the one my son remembered most, and kept trying to get me to use it - If you want a free popcorn, just go up to one of the popcorn carts and tell them that you lost all of your popcorn (dropped it, bird attacked you, etc), and they are REQUIRED to give you another popcorn...

btw - we had horrible week with rides breaking down. Here is a list of the rides that broke down last week:
Buzz, Dinosaur (twice), Rock-n-Roller Coaster (twice), spaceship earth, and something else I can't remember. That is the first time that we've ever had something like this happen. Value season, I guess??

What a great thread! Some of these made me laugh out loud - not nice I realize. We have been stuck on most rides - none longer than 10 mins - but the worst one for me was Space Mountain. I guess you can say I am claustrophobic so why I even attempt to go on all rides is probably a stupid thing to begin with.

This time I was with 2 friends and my DH was waiting for us outside. I always pull the safety bar real tight against my stomach since sometimes on this ride at one point it feels like your butt leaves the seat. However this worked against me since we turned the corner and were just picking up speed to head for the hill and we jerked harshly to a complete halt. Of course I started to panic - mostly because my seatbelt was so darn tight that it almost hurt and we were sorta hanging sideways. I took off my jacket to see if that would help but I was all worked up. After 20 mins they finally turned the lights on and to my horror we were about 12 feet above the ground and no way to get out. The CM's decided that we had to actually try and climb out of the car and throw our legs over the side and sorta hang ourselves down a little till they could grab you and carry you to safety. Well I might as well have been on top of a 100 story building. I made such a fool of myself - let alone the fact that I am overweight by at least 30 pounds so I figured they could never help lift me. So my friends all sorta lowered themselves and were fine. My one friend lifted his wife up so that she could try and talk me into getting up and lifting my legs over. She sorta held me and 2 CM's now were reaching up for me. I finally climbed down as far as possible and they all snagged me. Boy did I feel like a DOPE. I must have held up that ride for 30 mins.

When I got outside my DH was frantic as he heard there was a problem with a ride and some woman was freaking out. He just KNEW that was me but at the same time was hoping it was not. As soon as he saw me he knew it WAS ME that was freaking out because he said I was so white it looked like I was going to pass out. I wound up just sitting down in front of the castle to get my disney spirit back and after realized just HOW RIDICULOUS I was.

Suzywind - I think you'll appreciate this one (although it happened at Cedar Point). My daughter and her friends were watching the Gemini Roller Coaster (very high) to see if they wanted to go on it. Well it stopped at the top of the highest hill and stayed there for quite a while. Then someone went up there and made everyone get out and crawl down the little rungs along side the track. They would have had to knock me out and carry me down. After all these people get to the bottom they manage to get the thing running again, they then load it up with people and it stops at the top of the high hill again. Again all the people have to get out and crawl down. AND we're talking hundreds of feet up - not twelve. I freak out just thinking about it! BTW - daughter and friends decided against trying it!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Reading this thread reminded me of an experience we had on POTC about 10 years or so ago. We were about to board when everything stopped and the lights came on. Well this was when the movie "Jurassic Park" had just come out so of course the first thing that popped into my head was that line about "when POTC breaks down the pirates don't start eating the tourist" which made me blute out " oh no, the pirates are eating the tourist!" My family and the CMs laughted but I did get some weird looks from several other folks.

I was stuck on Peter Pan at the part where Captain Hook yells, "Help me Mister Smee, help me!" and then he responds, "I'm comin' Captain!"... for a very long time. I was only about 5 at the time, but I still remember it well.

Me too, but I was a little older than 5.... Every so often I hear 'help me, Mister Smee, help me!' whirling through my head! It was at least 10 minutes in that spot.....

I don't like the pre-show of misson:space at the best of times i just find it soo boring but the ride broke down for some reason and they repeated the pre-show about 5 times brfore letting us out to go to another room

When we got into the new room we had to listen to the pre-show again i felt like crying i was so bored :sad2: :headache:

Welcome to the DIS! :flower: I love your story! :rotfl: :rotfl:

We got stuck on Splash Mountain and because of where we were (right before you get off, where it forks off on the left as well) we were the last freaking people off! They were trying to pull us to the side and the guy was pretty much flat from the platform to our log. I thought he was going to fall in the water and the CM's are saying "gee, they don't show this in the video." We were stuck for over an hour until closing and we lost the rest of our party. But we did get free passes to Epcot the next day for our troubles. ::MickeyMo
