Funniest Ride BreakDown Stories

we were stuck for a very long time on small world ....cruelest form of torture known to man

and while this wasn't a breakdown, we were the first ones in spaceship earth one morning and got to the top universe scene except the "universe" is really a big bright storage room with a bunch of ladders and junk sitting around. someone forgot to turn the lights off ..funniest thing was the reaction of the cm when we got off the ride and told her, really thought she was going to faint right then and there.

hehe, try this:

One time when I was on the Jungle Cruise at MK at night- the boat stopped (rather abruptly) and thank god we had such a funny skipper because they didn't get the boat moving for like 20 mins. It seemed like 2, because Lindsay just kept us so entertained! There were only adults on the boat, luck have it, and so the jokes became a little more "extreme" (when I say "extreme" I mean Comedy Club in PI, extreme, hehe). Then she had us singing rounds of "move move move this boat, gently down the stream!" :rotfl2: This was great - we felt like we had to tip her at the end for such a good show, but instead we just told her manager how great she was and made sure that she got recognized for it!!!!

We've been stuck at one time or another on most rides, but a couple were very memorable: 1) Sitting in It's a Small World for no less that 20 minutes listening to them sing that song over and over and over and over.....I still have a hard time going on it unless my kids really, really want to... 2) My daughters LOVE Haunted Mansion, so we rode on it over and over again during E-Nite. Well, of course, it was practically empty. So, they wanted to each ride in their own Doombuggy. Hey guys, it's spooky to ride by yourself in a ride that is dark and empty!! Well, it stopped for about 5 minutes and I'm sitting there (yes, I'm an adult, but a very immature one) and start thinking of creepy people sneaking in and stuff. :scared1: Silly, I know..... 3) This one wasn't a breakdown, but freaky anyway. We were riding ToT and there was this group of teenage (ages 14-15) girls in our elevator. They start screaming their heads off from the very beginning. But, one or two of them kept lifting her feet off the ground while screaming. They stopped our car at least three times telling them to stop or they would make them get off. Right at the dropping point they turned on the lights in our car and told them to stop. Each time, it would take them at least 30 seconds to get it going back again. I was so freaked out by the end because we didn't even know if we were going or if they were stopping it or what!! :scared1:

Ok I posted this story on another thread but it is definitely way more appropriate for this one. This was about 10 years ago. I was on the Hauted Mansion ride with some friends and it broke down during one of the parts where it goes backwards. Of course it is super dark. Finally the ride starts moving again and all of a sudden there is a hand about an inch or so from my face. Knowing this was not supposed to happen I screamed SO loud. My friends just cracked up. It freaked me out at the time but it was funny!

We've been on many a ride at WDW when it broke down or stopped (we've visited many, many times), but there are two memorable moments that come to mind.

In HM, DH and I were on it just before MK closed and there was hardly anyone else on the ride. When it stopped, we were in the sceance (sp?) room. As we looked around, all the other doom buggies in sight were empty. Very creepy.....

On TT in Epcot, we were stopped in the cold room. I was seated just below a nozzle that emitted a constant spray of cold mist. As I slowly got wetter, myself and other people in the car started shouting for someone to shut off the spray. It was eventually shut off, but I came off that ride more soaked than I sometimes have been coming off Splash Mountain!!!

My mom, my friend Jacob, and I all decided to go on our old favorite, Pirates of the Caribbean. We were all in the very back row of the boat and going up the small hill (you know the one in the pitch black with the creepy skull and cross bones when it is like 50 degrees with fake wind blowing..yah you know what I'm talkin about...) and we start going up, up, up....when the boat dies going right on the hill. We are all staring at the creepy skull and freezing to death, when my pal Jacob yells, "SOMEONE FELL OFF THE BOAT!" for kicks. My mom and I were dying from giggling so hard, but then it started to spread like disease up to each row in the boat. "Someone fell off the boat?" "Yes, yes that young man said someone fell off the boat!" "Someone fell off the boat, did you hear that Mertle?" It was classic. Everyone thought someone had actually fallen off the boat into the foot of water below us. It was one of the most classic and greatest moments of my Disney existence. The ride finally got moving, and we never let out our most excellent secret. pirate:

I was on Test Track a few years ago when it broke down. The poor , unfortunate souls who were win the two cars in front were stuck - one in the "HOT" zone and one in the "COLD" zone - How bad must that have been for them? I don't know which one would have been worst?

I have been stuck in the hot zone for around 5-10 minutes and it is certainly no picnic.

We were about to get on POTC when my DS9 asked the CM if they remembered to say "Good Morning" to George. The CM teased him and said he didn't think so and asked the other CM. The other CM told him she wasn't there at opening so she wasn't sure. Then the first CM noticed my DS birthday button. He says as we are getting on the boat, "It's your birthday? Hope it isn't your last!" As we are starting the ride, I quietly call out "George, George" to bug DS. He tells me to stop! Fast forward to the almost end of the ride. We are going up the final conveyer belt just before exiting the ride. It stops! And we sit and sit. I look over at DS and he is in tears! The child is terrified that Geoge has stopped the ride. Of course, being the concerned and loving mom that I am, I am cracking up laughing at him! And tell him that the ride is old, George didn't stop it. Well, the boat in front of us can just climb over the seats and walk out of the ride. All of the boats behind us are pushed back so they can get off. But, as we are on a conveyer belt, our boat is stuck. We were on that thing for 20 minutes. I did finally calm DS down. Anyway, they have to bring out this portable bridge to get us out. And who should be the CM helping unload the boat? I teased him saying, "Aren't you the one who said you hoped it wasn't his last birthday?" He said, "I was kidding!" It was pretty funny. On the way out they were giving free front of the line passes to any ride and DS got everyone in our family 2 since it was his birthday. He swears he will never ride POTC again!

My dad and I were riding BTMRR for the 2nd time during EMH and were like it's going a little faster then just a few minutes ago, well sure enough we got to the 3rd hill(inside the mountain) and were stoped, the voice came on and people starting joking and were like "the rocks are going to fall on us." "they now decided to make it a backwards ride, welcome to EE" after about 15 minutes of bad jokes(I felt as if I was on Jungle Cruise, and said that at some point) we were walked off and given those free ride thing.

I was on COP when, halfway through the show, it broke down. The lights were still on but everything ground to a halt. Then, in the background, I heard a faint voice shout "TURN THE TAPE BACK ON!" Everyone was chuckling throughout the rest of the show.

TOT, we were stuck in the elevator room after the ride had finished. The lights came on, I looked beside me and there was a very freakish doll looking back at me. Some guy was making us laugh because he said "Maybe someone got stuck in between the ride". Spaceship Earth, at the end and we were going backwards. Well at least we were going backwards :)

Okay, so not a break down per se, but I have ridden SM with the lights on! :scared1:

Needless to say I now crouch down whenever I ride, some of those tracks are pretty close!

When I went on my first trip to WDW in May 2001 we got stuck in the Carousel of Progress when a lightning storm caused the computer that runs it to repeat the final "modern times" segment over-and-over at least half a dozen times before they finally got it shut off and let us out of the building.

i consider myself to be fortunate not to have experienced too many breakdowns in all of our trips to WDW. being in a breakdown while on HM in the graveyard scene actually was very very cool .my DS and myself kept pointing things out that we have never noticed before. being stuck the the old treasure scene at the end of POTC just before you unload was definitely annoying. cant see much and was so close to getting off all i wanted to do was ask the CM at unloading to throw us a land line and haul us in.

my all time favorite has to be with the old "If You Had Wings" the eastern airlines attraction. we were stuck in the place where all they said was "If you had wings". we heard that over and over again. almost as bad as getting stuck on IASW.

I've posted this before. You know you go to WDW too often when you experience ride breakdowns at the same point as other trips :rolleyes1 On Chrsitmas Day 2001 DH, DS, and DD were riding Splash -- too cold for younger DS and I to get wet -- and the ride broke down. They were gone for what seemed forever, but it was the first time I'd seen the water turned off on the big drop. Turns out they were stopped just before the climb to the big drop and the ride was evacuated from the beginning of the ride first. They did get FP to any attraction for the whole family. So in October, 2002 where do we break down on Splash? Yep at exactly the same place, this time with the DS who didn't ride in 2001. We'd been on the KTTK tour before and so we knew a little about the parade vehicles you can see when you're evacuating.

About ten years or so ago we went with my cousin who had never been to EPCOT before and took her on the ride in Norway... well, she hates hieghts, etc... and wouldn't you know that it broke down on the way up the hill, you know the part with all the lasers, etc... she was screaming that it was going to break and we would all go backwards. I was thinking we were going to need EMS if we were stuck there any longer. Poor thing! Of course we all laughed because we knew it was never going to go backwards.

I guess this is kinda funny.... I hate the little ghost that pop up on HM but it seems everytime we are "interupted by the spirits" my doom buggie always stops right there... ahhh!

same with us! When we went with my bff last August it stopped in front of the ghosts. We knew it was coming but we kept screaming! We were such wimps!

last june we were on splash mountian and we got stuck at the part were all the charters were singing laughing place!!!! our whole party was in the car and we were all yelling can they please have some heart and turn the music off!!! i sware i have never been crazy on a ride in my life!!! LAUGHING PLACE THE LAUGHING PLACE......BLAH BLAH OH MY GOSH TURN IT OFF PLEASE MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!!! those were my exact words.:lmao:

We broke down in Munchkin Land on the Great Movie Ride. It was really funny because the car just stopped, but the audio was still going on. Then the car would start moving again, then it stopped. Then some mechanics came out and "fixed" the car. So again it moved a few feet ahead, then stopped. The poor CM (who had a lovely British accent) was making jokes the whole time, and trying to think of some more tidbits about the movie. Then we got close enough to the Wicked Witch and we did that whole spiel. Our car was a little behind from where the Witch is programmed to look, and the CM was like "We're over here!". It was funny. And let me say that the Munchkin song was stuck in my head for the rest of the day!
