Waitlist not clearing even though room available?

Extra data point, waitlist worked!

So my intention was to swap out home resort points with OTUP at the 7-month window for the exact same resort, so I could not just modify to do that. I had to cancel and rebook.

As a precaution I set a waitlist right at 8 AM when the 7-month window opened.

Later in the day I cancelled the home resort booking and for a split second I saw the room available but it triggered a website error when I tried to book it, and then it was gone when I refreshed.

When I contacted MS, the waitlist I had set actually caught it and they were able to confirm the waitlist booking for me!

Maybe it was a coincidence but the waitlist triggered immediately and extremely fast. This experience gives me more confidence the waitlist function actually works as intended....sometimes/anecdotally.

I find that one night cancels tend to not show back up immediatelythan longer ones.

I have also canceled three night trips and many times one of the nights didn’t come back.

My speculation was that the system may automatically grab those when there is a waitlist for that one night?

But, congratulations!!!

Adding a DP. Had 2 nights waitlisted in a BLT 1 BR Resort view. Had another night waitlisted at VGF. I only have one UY so just 2 waitlists. Decided I wanted to cancel the VGF waitlist and break the BLT waitlist up into 2 different waitlists - 1 or for each night.

Well, as soon as I cancelled the waitlist, both nights were available and I booked them! Yay! So, clearly the waitlist was just waiting to be processed.

Note to self: Check to make sure a waitlist hasn't cleared before cancelling.

The chat handles waitlist checks very quickly!

Interesting data point. Even though it was just one night, that is quite a gamble that you'd be first in the waitlist. Somebody else with that home resort could have created a waitlist for that 1 night in the 11 month window before you have a chance to create one in the 7 month window. Between my 2 UY memberships, I have 3 waitlists for 1 night each in the 11 month window.

Did you cancel the entire reservation, or just modify it to drop one night?

Because I was doing this for science. I actually double booked 3 individual nights so I would have 3 tries to test out a different strategy (try in the afternoon or at 4 am etc). So even if I lost all 3 nights, my vacation was still booked.
