Funky smell on Monorails?

I love the Monorails, but it seems like they are really getting a funky, stale smell to them. At first I just attributed it to a full day by some in the parks, but every monorail had the same odor. Smells aren't usually a big thing to me, but this I noticed. Is it just me?

It's not just you; I have seen posts about it a million times. And it's my current name for my trip report for our first WDW trip, too. :goodvibes

That smell has been there as long as we have been going (2002) some years its stronger than others and when it rains it seems worse. Also in the hot summer months its worse. We joke that they use the monorails to get the horses in and out of MK. But the weird thing even though its a foul smell I am so Disney addicted that I miss that smell sometimes too. Yep I'm a weirdo. :goodvibes

I think they smell like band-aids (not particularly offensive). Funny how smell perception can be different for different people.

If I recall correctly, I think Robo explained it had something to do with the process of creating the fiber glass used to make the interior of the cabins.

I always thought it smelt of wet mold, or possible even the mens room. Yuck, not a fan of the smell.

That's what worries me when I seat my clean behind down in good faith ..... :rolleyes1

I don't know if I didn't pay enough attention in the past, but last year seemed worse than I remember it being before. We used quite a few monorails last trip so it wasn't like we just got onto a smelly one by chance.

As mentioned, plenty threads about it and we are no closer to solving the mystery or achieving a solution.

"The smell" is a time-honored tradition of the monorails. I agree it smells like bandaids until about 6pm, then you can add on funk and sunscreen as people start coming back from the parks.

I kinda like it now. It smells like coming home. :)

I think that smell is that of the huddle masses and their body odor on recirculation.:confused3

Somewhere on this board there is a thread about taking a ride on 'Ol Band Aid. It's all about how some people love the smell of the monorail.

:rotfl:That is exactly how I feel. Disney is just not Disney without that momorail smell. :rotfl:

The monorail has smelled the same since I first went..back in '99. I don't find it offensive at all. It's most likely a combination of things, with the air conditioning added in. Band-aid is a good description.
But body type odors??? Nope, hasn't smelled like that before, at least not to me.
