Ft. Wilderness Cabins becoming DVC?

I am not DVC and if you had asked me previously if I'd be interested in buying in, I would have said no.

The only reason I am even remotely interested is because I stayed at FW in April in a cabin and had the absolute best time - the space was great, I cooked a few meals vs eating overpriced theme park food again and enjoyed the property.

I like to visit Disney with my dog (sometimes alone and sometimes with a friend) and the pure convenience of the cabins when having a dog was priceless. Also, he had the best time riding on the golf cart. :-) When I called a Minnie Van to go to dinner at the California Grill, it felt very VIP to have them pick up and drop off right at my cabin. What a treat!

So don't underestimate people like me who are worried they will be priced out of the cabins if they don't consider DVC. There is a market for the privacy and convenience vs what is offered at any other DVC property.
It is also appealing to people like us who have now done enough of the parks that we don’t feel like every trip has to be crammed from morning to night. Having some leisurely time at FW sounds lovely (as long as it is not summer), especially with a little more privacy from your neighbors.

Hoping the price charts and any restrictions don’t burst my hopeful bubble!

Ditto.

It is very likely that the original "Reflections" project was the start of a masterplan to upgrade all of Fort Wilderness to full Deluxe Resort status. As part of that plan I am sure the upgrade to the cabins were mapped out. The artist renderings to the "New" cabins seem to indicate the same design theme of Reflections. That is not a coincidence, I am sure. Since Reflections is on hold (but not officially cancelled), it looks like they are going ahead with the rest of the plan. It would not be surprising if they want to get to that deluxe status so they could not only increase the cost of the cabins, but the cost of all the campsites as well. If so, I hope that they step up the amenities to a higher level, including the dining options and transportation. I am looking forward to it.
Life took us away from this thread for a bit. We agree with the elevation to Deluxe category. Interesting thought on Phase 2 plan has shifted to Phase 1 overhaul of Fort Wilderness. We would love to see more than just tweaks to dinning and transportation. I never see Disney marketing or building a Moderate DVC resort. Agree the new cabin design has a Reflections vibe.

Spent some time the other night reading up on the history of this resort and discovered the Train that was used a transportation for a period of time. While we know the train will never come back it is interesting to dream about it.

would love to know more about the train!

If you Google Fort Wilderness Railroad by Bill Iadonisi if will take you to one of the better articles. It was interesting the ticket booths at Pleasure Island actually used some of the original train cars. Disney never pulled up the tracks so you can still spot them in some places.

Sounds like at some point, you enjoyed the resort. I can’t imagine spending so much time at a location that didn’t have any positives?
I might be in the minority, but the ability to bring the family dog will be nice. Having a golf cart will make the journey from point A to B within the resort kind of fun. I think it will be more popular than some think.
For us, the huge draw is being able to bring our dog.
Plus, we like Fort Wilderness, and for trips where we are not taking friends/family that want to spend a lot of time in the park, FW is a fantastic place to stay, relax, and enjoy (IMHO).

Our family has never stayed here but we are looking forward to Christmas 2024 trip in one of the new DVC Cabins. I already have an itinerary in the works and researching how far in advance we can rent a Golf Cart. I already spent a lot of time reviewing the FW forums. Our Christmas trip is always a resort only stay. One our favorite pass times is how many modes of transportation we can take from point A to Point B. We count walking as a mode of transportation. The Golf Cart has already create a lot of excitement in our family.

I would go to a campground, spend less, get a lake I can swim in, and likely more privacy then elsewhere.

I never get the resort only stays though.

Interested to see what they do though there.

I wish we could see a little progress. I would love to stay at the cabins in the next two years but want to wait until they are dvc. I hate using cash when I have points available.

I was hoping they would have given an update or we would see something happening by now. Maybe it will be a quick turn around since the cabins will be built offsite and just involve swapping them out. I thought they were going to be done before Poly2, and that seems to be moving along well.

I agree. Disney indicated the cabins would open before Poly2. At the very least the pool, trail and dinning enhancements they mentioned should be underway. Deluxe status will require some major enhancements to the area.

Did they actually say that? All I've ever seen is "2024".
