I just hope I have enough energy for DLR after the cruise! Right now I'm debating if we should do 2 nights or 3 nights there. I know we talked about this awhile back, but I cant remember the answer (or what people think is likely)- what time do you think we'll be off the ship in LA? This affects my decision on 2 or 3 nights, but most likely I'm doing 3 because I think the debarkation will be long and busy, getting the rental car, checking in to hotel- I dont think I'll want to do any parks that day. Are Saturdays really busy at DL in January? Meaning, will I have a hard time doing both parks in one Saturday? What do you So Cal people think?
i don't know about weekends in January, but weekdays are completely empty. 5 minute waits, if that.
First off I think everyone will be off the ship by 9:30 here in L.A. In '05 we had all the news and stuff as it was DCL first time on the west coast and I was off the ship by 9:30 because I did not have a flight home. Second remember for those going to DL. It is the time of year that most of the rehab work is done. So there is a good chance a lot of attractions maybe down. Also remember that in 2011 even more construction will be going on at DCA than right now. You might be using a makeshift enterance and exit as the main gate is suposed to be torn down right after the summer season ends this year. As for World of Color. They have no clue what they are doing. It opens two weeks from today and as of yeserday show times were not up. I think it is safe to say that it will be going at least Friday and Sat nights. Also their maybe no fireworks. I think in Jan this year they only did then on MLK weekend.
Sounds like a good reason to stay onboard for the 2 nighter and go to DL the next week instead then.
well, if you want toi mean, it won't change what rides are closed, of course.
i believe, and i could be wrong, that HM opens in later january, but i had always just missed it when i went on my birthday. so i think there's a good chance it'll be open when this sailing ends.
otherwise, i think while there will be a lot of construction, it won't close down rides. so there's no reason for anyone to worry about everything being boarded up. hehe
but back to others- if you plan to go on a weekday in january, you can definitely hit all of the important things in both parks. it's a much smaller park than WDW and it's many parks.
its not necessarily construction but holiday changeover. both years on my birthday (jan 12) rides were closed. notably Haunted Mansion, which undergoes that major changeover. other things were closed, but mostly it was just a brief closure, like a few days, or even just that day. but you'll still be getting your money's worth. just go in knowing that it's changeover season.
there will be construction in DCA, but i doubt it will be resulting in ride closures. if they haven't finished already, they should be close to finishing the trolley tracks. and i think the few rides that they've been building should be done. but i don't think that anything that is currently open now will be closed then. there will be new stuff that may not be open yet, but you won't know what you're missing since it's new.
plus, just FYI, it's about to be summer peak season. so they have a LOT of things that are getting ready to go up or that have just opened. so it may just be taking a bit of time to get everything situated and online. i'm sure "they" know exactly what they are doing.
Well I just thought crowds and closed attractions make for it being even busier at other attractions, so going when it is quieter makes more sense!!!!
well, you may have one or two closed attractions total between each park, not including regular closures that happen throughout the day that usually reopen within in an hour or two.
so i don't think it'll make a difference, to be honest. weekday or weekendbut i'm not going to argue, stay on the ship- it'll be fun!
They have an idea, but Bob Iger is not helping as he keeps insisting on changes. The version of World of Color I saw Wed was not the same as the one they ran on Tuesday. Also the person who took us around is a VP at imaginering. He comented after the show that things were still not working right. He also said that Red Car is behind because they have to do the front of the park and that isca year behind right now. He thinks little mermaid maybe a little early though so that is good. Cars Land is on target, they want it early but a few probs with radiator springs racers have already poped up. He did say that the DL entertainment people had a idea of how many times World if Color would play each night this summer but first they need a running time and that has changed twice this week.
I think I would quite like to, but it is a bit expensive really and I have to find some good ways to persuade John!!!! I'm not too sure he will think it worth it for really one day in port and one day at sea!!!! We do have some friends booking it who would be nice to see again, plus one of our friends actually doing the PC is staying onboard too!

True, but also Small World should be down, the river and all it's attractions and possably the Matterhorn will all most likely be down in Jan. That's all.well, whatever, you know best.
those things won't likely effect anyone's trip in january. that which is open now will likely be open then. save for HM which undergoes significant changes for the holidays and could open just too close to when people are planning their trip after this sailing.

What is "the river and all its attractions?" and also is the matterhorn typically always closed in January?True, but also Small World should be down, the river and all it's attractions and possably the Matterhorn will all most likely be down in Jan. That's all.
DCLtravler said:Speaking of Small World, did they change the attraction at WDW like they did here in CA. We had such a good time trying to find the "small-world-ized" characters![]()
oh, i hear ya. all of my LA friends are actors who couldn't afford to fly to orlando for a short 3 or 4 day cruise, or can afford the time away from auditioning for a 7day cruise.
so i may have a bunch of people using my CM discount (if we even get one; i don't think we even get it for the 15 day sailing) and doing the 2-day to nowhere.
i shared pricing info with the friend who wanted to come on this sailing, and i think even she's backing out haha so... i don't know when they'll come. maybe on a mexican riviera trip
In 2008 - our CM perk was that the gratuities were paid for us (I keep hoping for that one again!)
What is "the river and all its attractions?" and also is the matterhorn typically always closed in January?
Just curious how do you think everyone will be off by 9:30 if the PP said it shows we arent arriving until 9:30? I would think 11 at the earliest if we dont dock til 9:30?
The itinerary on the website says "ashore" at 9:30am. I would think that means it's the earliest we would get off the ship, not when we arrive.
