Well..for those who are interested..they have announced the price of the cabanas on CC... $499.00... not officially but per the post on another board on Dis:

Posted on the Disney Cruise Line Forum: “My husband and I just got back from a 4 night cruise May 6th 2010. We attended the Captains Corner session and asked what was the cost for cabanas at Castaway Cay. The officer answering the question actually turned to the Captain and asked if he could share this info as the costs had just been finalized, but not announced. The Captain gave him the okay to share…$499 for the day. There will be 16 cabanas on the family beach and 4 at Serenity Bay. He said they would hold up to 8 people and the refrigerator would be stocked with soft drinks. Seems a bit high to me. We have a 5 night cruise booked for May 28, 2011 on the Dream for me, my husband, mother and sister and had wanted to book a cabana but agreed this was just not a great use of that much discretionary income.”

Lynne. San Diego will be just about the same as it will be here. Just so you know the drive is about 2 hours. Well back from my day at DL. So after club 33 we went over to a closed DCA and saw the new World Of Color show. They are doing full run throughs now nightly. Incredable show. The colors are amazing.

Glad you had fun!

It applies to all grades in CA. You just go to your schools front office and ask for an IS contract. They will direct you from there. I commented about this last week, but the jist is that the nice thing about an IS over asking for work directly from teachers, is that the teachers cannot add on to the work when the child returns. The contract becomes ALL work for the time the child is gone. It may be a lot, but at least you will have Christmas Break:thumbsup2

Hmm... my Godson would love to go on this trip... This could make it workable. Thanks for the info.

:lmao:We will have two:lmao:
I love Newport like others have said, but of course I'm partial to SD since I lived there from 2004-2007. If you do SD, I recommend visiting the beautiful Hotel del Coronado on Coronado island, stunning place! Also, La Jolla is the best- just north of San Diego--beautiful restaurants at La Jolla Cove overlooking the Pacific and the bluffs, stunning to anyone not from the area. Of course there is always the zoo and Sea World but my favorite things to do in SD revolve around being outdoors and taking in the spectacular ocean views and sunsets!

Lynn,
I thought you meant that you were taking the extended cruise which would give you a very short time off of the ship, which is why I mentioned a lot of nearby areas. If you have two nights, SD would be a great place to go. In addition to the other things mentioned, Balboa Park is a lot of fun and you could easily spend the day there going to all the museums (science, natural history, Japanese gardens, Railroad, car, etc). Seaport Village is also a lot of fun. I don't know if it will still be going on, but you can also go giant squid fishing (and when I say giant, I mean GI-ANT)--I have never seen anything like it in my life!!
Silly me, one other place I forgot to mention is Catalina island--Very outdoorsy (hiking, biking...) and you can take the boat from San Pedro (where we are docking)--Can't believe I forgot that one!!

Lynne,
I also think you should do San Diego! So much to see and do and beautiful.

I agree..you should go to San Diego...San Diego is wonderful!

Thanks guys, I am away to check out san diego.

I am sorry, but I just have to ask as I just do not get it. What is the big deal about a cabana? I mean if I wanted shade, a little bit of quiet, and a soda, I would just go to the Air BBQ and sit under a tree and umbrella and have a soda. I am sorry to those of you who think this is awesome. I just don't get. I know I will never be getting one of these, in what in my opinion, a waste of money. Again, this is just my opinion.

The only time we've ever gotten a cabana was at a waterpark home at Wildwood at the Jersey Shore, and that was because they get very crowded and lounge chairs are limited, so the cabana guaranteed you a spot, and hammock, and bar service right to your chair (Jersey is strict with liquor laws so you couldnt get liquor at your chair throughout the rest of the park, you would have to walk over to the bar area if you wanted something unless in the cabana area). And because it was only $50 for the whole day, which I thought was very reasonable for the private area and service. I think $50 is the most I would spend anywhere, including CC. I can't imagine spending $500, and it only includes a fridge of soft drinks? How is that an amenity if you can get them at the BBQ area for free as well? Maybe I would pay $100 if it included adult drinks lol : )

Wow!! That is pretty pricey!! I wouldn't pay that. Give me a hammock or beach chair and umbrella, and I'm good to go!:thumbsup2

I can totally see paying $50. But $500 is crazy! I guess if people had money to throw away, but not in this economy.

I have to agree... way to expensive for my taste... we have gotten a cabana at a water park here near our home due to the crowds and it was a nice place to know you had a chair and service. We talked about possibly getting one of these with some friends of ours when I thought maybe the price was 150-200 for the day (split several ways) just as a place to enjoy but 500 is way out of our budget even if it was split with other families. However, if it is what somebody wants (and you know they will fill up) I sincerely hope they have a wonderful time! People see different things as worth thier money and I completely understand...we are splurging on the 2 night cruise on our cabin which some I know see as silly but you earn the money..you deserve to spend it how you see fit! I would never tell anyone otherwise....

When we went on our 3nt in May, I was shocked at how empty the family beach was. Our cruise was very close to sold out and there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas (even a hammock) available and we were definitely not the first ones off the ship. I finally realized why....now that they have the water slides, a lot of people go over to that section of the beach. It got a little more crowded around 11am but nothing like I've seen in the past. Just thought I would mention that just incase that is why some of you may want to purchase a cabana.

I think the cabanas would be very nice for families with members that have medical conditions and I think they should at least be discounted for those in that situation.

I don't think it's silly and I completely agree.

And you will be having the last laugh as you wave to all of us that are being dragged off the ship kicking and screaming the last morning of this cruise. :lmao:

Where is the new slide area located?

I understand what you are saying, I guess what I saying is I just don't understand the allure.

YA-HOOO!!! :cool1: I called in every day like a good and responsible citizen and I never had to report for jury duty!!!! I just called for the final time and my "jury service has been fulfilled"--I will say it again...YA-HOO!!! :woohoo:
Although losing money because of these furlough days is a bummer, I have to admit that having a 5-day weekend this weekend is pretty cool. Now that I am free, I think I'm going to paint my kitchen!!

the other big deal about cabanas: you SAY sun to DH and he gets burned!! so for $50 i'd have done it for him. too many zeros - he can fight for shade!! shame people WILL spend that money cause if they went totally unrented for a while, i bet they'd drop a zero or at least lower the 5. but like y'all say, they probably will get rentedl

I am seeing the arguments for the cabanas, but I never have a problem finding shade at CC. I never have a problem getting something to drink at CC. I never have a problem getting food at CC. I just don't get it. I don't think I will.

FOR the cabanas? hmm, havent' seen too much of that. i'm with you. but DH really could use a place where there's no chance of sun reflection etc, but NOT for that amount of money!! he really really needs to be away from it. but not this time! (or maybe ever!)
