Hi friends -

I will do an update on my PTR, but my Disney trip plans are now in the air. My sweet Grandpa passed away this morning after a long battle with dementia & pnemonia. He was 83 & lived a long happy life. We think his funeral is Saturday morning so we won't leave for WDW then. My aunt is going to call the airline this afternoon & see what we can do but honestly, it's the last thing on my mind. Grandpa was the patriarch of our family and although we knew he was getting weaker, it isn't any easier.

Thanks, friends....sorry to hijack your thread Jill & MeMom. :)

My boyfriend's grandmother passed away exactly one week ago. Like your grandpa, she was definitely the matriarch of the family, and even though everyone knew she was getting worse (stage 4 renal kidney failure and congestive heart failure), it was still very hard when she passed away. I'm sorry for your loss

I love the pictures of the girls playing in Storm Along Bay! It's a small world after all! I see my friend's little girl in one of your pictures. Glad to hear John is o.k. Hope you guys find a car quick.
MeMom- Our school system does the same thing every year. Doesn't make sense.

Have a great day!!

That class trip would be something, wouldn't it? I do feel sorry for those kids; they need their parents and positive guidance, but for whatever reason don't get it. Makes me very upset.

It would be great. If I had the money, we'd a couple of nice tour buses and go on the road!

Look at those two adorable girls on Halloween!! I also had a Pocahontas one year. I was so sorry to read about John hitting the dear. How is the car search coming along Jill?

She called me this afternoon and said they were about to go car hunting. I said that car hunting with John would be on my Top Ten Never Wanna Do List. She sent me a text later. It might have said 'Kill me!' :rotfl:

The cake is adorable and the kids are even cuter!

Sorry to hear about John's car...hope he's ok!

Good luck with your conferences, MeMom! Mine are just around the corner too...

We think maybe he cut a deal with the deer so he could get a new car. ;)

Caught up after weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks of absence due to no internet access!!! We lost it during the packing and then when we moved house, it took 4 weeks to set up in our new rental place.
Glad to be back!!!!
xxx

Nothing much has been happening around here. We've all been very busy. Maybe we'll get another group of pictures up by Friday night.

It's so sad to think about your kids who have parents who don't seem to care very much. Hard to imagine, really, when I think about how much I love my sweet girl.

Fortunately, those kids are in your capable hands and will be well-taught and well cared for.

We have some very involved parents and some very uninvolved ones. One of our focuses is on parent involvement, and we try to have lots of things for them. We almost always offer free dinner to get them more inclined to come. If we can get the parents to really realize the importance of what we are trying to accomplish and what their part is in that, great strides will be made.

The girls looked adorable in their costumes. Sounds like John was okay, thankfully! Accidents with deer and moose can be so scary. Growing up in Maine it was something I was always on the lookout for. My mom had a bad accident many years ago when young moose ran into her car. They had to use the jaws of life to get her out.

Sorry to hear about your mom's accident. We've had some bad stuff going on around here lately, too - two accidents I will tell you about in a minute. I hope your mom had a full recovery.

Oh my, I hope John didn't get hurt in the accident. I will send for the car shopping.

I love the girls costumes for Halloween, so cute!

Lexi was Jack Skellington.
She got lots of candy too.
I may be nibbling on some of her candy as I type ....:rotfl:

It's still crazy at work, if it's not one thing it's another.

One of my cat's jumped on the table ( a no-no) and dumped a glass of water on my DMom's laptop and it is fried.
So I have been sharing my laptop with her in the evenings.
So not much DIS time lately.
Good thing is I now know what to get her for Christmas.

A trip to the zoo sounds great!
It will be fun to spend time with your girls and get a Disney fix too.

Have a wonderful night!

Mom gets a new laptop! :cool1:

We just booked our spring trip, so I may be sitting in the dark eating PBJ instead of going to the zoo. ;)

Jill, I saw your post on FB...glad John is ok and I hope you have some luck finding a new car!

You probably care about some of them more than their parents do which is sad, but true. That is something that I am trying to prepare myself for for when I start teaching. I'm sure though that even after many years of teaching, it doesn't get any easier to see some of those students who just don't have the home support

Teaching is a very challenging and frustrating job many days. You need to have thick skin. :thumbsup2

Whew!! Caught up again! It looks lke July 5th was a lovely day to be at Disney, as if any day is a bad to be there! I woke up early this morning and as always your wonderful pictures and commentary have improved my glum morning. I know what you mean about parents not being involved all too well. We picked the community we lived in very deliberately for its great schools and involved community. Yet, last night they voted down our school levy. I guess that mean I will need to step up that much more to enrich my child's education. I'll start off by my usual Wednesday volunteering in Doug's class.

I hope conferences went well and that Jill and John are able to find some safe, affordable, reliable transportation!

They have friends who have an extra car sitting in the driveway. They said they can borrow it while they are looking. John doesn't want to, yet Jill and John gave another couple their car to borrow just a few months ago when they broke down. That's just what you do - you help and take help when you need it. That would give John time to do all of his research and not get in a hurry with a decision. We'll see...

Hijack away. We are here for you. I am sorry to hear of your loss. No matter how old someone is, it hurts to lose them. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

All the firsts (holidays, special events) without them will be bittersweet, too.

MeMom- Our school system does the same thing every year. Doesn't make sense.

That's funny. Hi there, friend's little girl!

We just got next year's schedule today. We are out for conferences November 1st next year! :cool1:

**********************************************

A couple of tragic things have happened to people we know and sort of know in the past two weeks. A two year old boy was hit in the head by a falling boulder at Falls Creek Falls State Park. He is the son of one of the Church of Christ ministers here. His mother grew up as a foster daughter in the home of friends of ours that went to school with us and where we picked up our own 'special friend' for weekend visits to give the foster parents a break. He has suffered great damage.

Then we just found out about another friend who went to church with us for years and who has a son who works part-time with Drew. He has always ridden motorcycles, and he had a wreck Monday night. They say he is fighting for his life, and the news is not looking good right now. He is the son of the former Grand Old Opry singer, Bill Carlisle, if any of you know anything about old-time country music.

One moment in time, one step, one slip, one foot of space can make a difference, and we never know when it could be us. We just need to be appreciative of the good days and good things we have and always let people know we care about them. Keep these sweet families in your thoughts and prayers as they go through these very difficult days, if you will. And keep our DIS friends who have lost loved ones in mind, as well. We like being able to share one another's burdens.

Lovely pool-side update! I also enjoyed the photo inside the resort. Those girls are just too cute.

Jill your Toy Story cake is fabulous! The girl's costumes for Halloween are perfect. Sorry hear about the deer accident, but glad to hear John is okay.

MeMom I just can't image not going for a conference. In our school system you have to go for the first conference at the end of the first 9 weeks. After that the conferences are just for kids having problems. With both my daughters I so looked forward to that first conference because it was the only one I ever had. Now my son, Brent was a different story. Not that he was bad just didn't live up to the potential the teacher felt he had. But that's all over with now, he had graduated college and will be a teacher himself.

I was just reading on Caleb's FB page and it is sounding so much better :goodvibes. I know he has a LONG way to go, but I pray that the family is doing well and that he will be a bouncy little boy again soon!! I know they are trying to get into a hospital in Atlanta. I assume it's one of the best in the area for him! I hope all works out and they get there soon!!

You are so right! Every day is a blessing and should be counted that way :goodvibes. I am so thankful for all that I have and I hope these families are healed and can become whole again soon!! :grouphug:

Whew, finally all caught up. Had gotten so far behind since the trip. So sorry to hear about John's accident, glad he was okay. Here's hoping that you are able to get a car soon!:goodvibes

Was so nice to meet you Jill and MeMom, and Brooklynn and Bella, too! Great preview of your October trip. My family really enjoyed october in disney, crowds weren't bad at all and the decorations were beautiful.

Yay for booking your spring trip. I can't wait to book the next trip, but gotta wait until dh is able to pick his vacation weeks, and hoping for room only discounts for March!

Hope to start up my tr from the trip soon. Will make sure I let you know when I've started:).

Oh, and all the pictures from the Beach Club make me want to stay there one day. The pool area looks like big fun for kids.

I can't imagine not going to a conference, either, but some of these people just have a different train of thought when it comes to education. I did have a very good turnout, though, for our school.

Yes, they had told us at church Sunday that he was going to be going to Atlanta. That is going to be hard on them to be away from home. I hope he will show miraculous recovery.

We enjoyed the visit, as well. Keeping up with all of the kids who were leading the way in all different ways was fun.

Definitely give us the heads up when you start the report. :thumbsup2

Yeah, Jill finally got the word from school, I called our friend to see if those dates worked for her, and then I called WDW.

We'll be at Pop from February 26th to March 2nd. :cool1:

Now to come up with the money between now and January 12th. :rolleyes1

So sorry to hear about all the tragedies!

A relative who is keeping everyone updated posted on FB that Bill had roused and mouthed 'I love you' to June, his wife. He is still on the ventilator and still as no movement.

I love the atmosphere of the Boardwalk too.

So sorry to hear about the tragedies those families are going through. My heart and prayers go out to them.

Feb 26 - Mar 2? I will let my Dad know (and hopefully boyfriend comes to Fl before then, so I can still be here. If he doesn't come here, I'll be leaving Fl sometime in January. There are split emotions going on.)

I am so sorry to hear about your friends. I hope both situations look better in the days to come.

This is so, so true and a really great reminder. We lost a friend a few weeks back and I found this quote that I really loved.

‎"It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth -- and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up -- that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had."

Great we will be their Feb 28th- March 7th. Let me know your plans maybe we can meet up. We are staying at CBR.

Cont. prayers for your friends, it makes you appreciated even the smallest blessings we receive each day.

Jill said Ed will have to hook us up with some Toy Story Fastpasses, if he is able. We're taking the morning flight, so we'll be at Pop around lunchtime. We're going to Hollywood Studios that day and only that day, so chances are not great for Jill to get her TSMM groove on without a looooong wait.

I am so sorry to hear about your friends. I hope both situations look better in the days to come.

Bill is going to be moved to Sheppard Center in Atlanta in the next few days. The lates is that he moved a finger, but they weren't sure if it was determined movement or just reflex.

I came to terms with all of this when I had my cancer surgery when Jill was still in high school. I had 'the talk' with God about where I was, basically nowhere, and who I was, basically nobody, and then I just turned it over to whatever it was going to be. I think if you have the serious opportunity to do that, it puts all things into a much better perspective. For me, life here is grand, but what is yet to come is better. Just be what you can and do what you can here, and later, we'll just party all the time. :)

We will do that. We talked about it for a minute today, since they've just released park hours. We think we'll go to Hollywood on Saturday, Magic Kingdom on Sunday, Animal Kingdom on Monday, probably back to Magic Kingdom on Tuesday, and then finish off with Epcot. We don't have to be picked up by Magical Express until around 4, so we'll have a good chunk of the day to soar, find Nemo, and look a some pretty flowers. March 2nd is supposed to be Opening Day of F&G, so we'd love to be there for that. :thumbsup2 I'm sure we can work out a park or resort to cross paths. You'll be right around the corner from us at Pop, too.

Checking in and so sorry to hear of all the tragedies friends are experiencing.
 Thoughts and prayers for recoveries and best outcomes.

That's awesome you guys are going in February!!!! We will miss you though by 2 1/2 weeks! :(

Oh my goodness, about the little boy. It just shows you never know what will happen no matter where you are. Bless his heart!

I will be praying for both of the the families

You have such a way with words MeMom. Prayers sor both families. Yay for dates!! Is it Kay you are going with again? And her grand daughter??

Hi MeMom and Jill! It was great meeting you and the girls. I felt like I was meeting DIS royalty!

How exciting that you have your next adventure booked for February!

I am glad to hear that John is OK.

I was just reading Facebook updates, and one said that there was some movement in one of his shoulder's, so that is a very positive sign. :)

We backed ours up because of flight prices. We really were supposed to go in mid-March, but flights were nearly twice as much. Plus, with these dates, we get free dining.

I have not read the latest on him. I believe he is already at or will be going to the same place Bill is going.

:banana: So glad you were able to settle on dates.

Yeah. Jill was better off being able to have an extra day with these dates, so now it just means that I have to skip school three days. Not an ideal thing, but I'm sure my kids will live through it. Then I will still have spring break to look forward to, and hopefully I will be spending some of that with my sweet girls, too. It will be the little girls' time to skip school. ;)

Kay is going, and she loves to go, so I am glad it worked out. With our schedules so very different, we only get a chance to visit maybe 4 times a year, even though she just lives one city away. She is a nurse tech, and she works nights and weekends, and that doesn't very often 'jive' with a teacher's schedule. Her granddaughter will not be going this time, but we hope that can happen for her eventually.

I am glad to hear that John is OK.

You are so funny! It was a fun surprise to meet you, too. Your girls are so sweet. I later just happened to be taking pictures over in the UK, and your girls were the ones getting their picture made with Alice, I think. I snapped a shot from a distance, so you'll see it in the report whenever we get to that spot. Could be some cold January day. :)

Having the trip booked does put a certain happiness into looking forward to the winter.

Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been around much in the last couple of weeks, too much stuff going on. We're starting to get excited about the Christmas surprise. We received the planning video the other day and watched it while Declan talked about next summer's trip.

Good times!
