Talk about "culture shock" - LOL..
Just finished reading that Amish series and was checking out my "in-house" library (ie: my bedroom) to see what I would start next and decided to go with something non-fiction.. Here's some comments from the back of "Pledged" - a New York Times Bestseller - by Alexandra Robbins:
"Alexandra Robbins decided to go where no non-Greek has gone before - behind the walls to explore the inner workings of a sorority house." - USA Today
New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Robbins spent a year undercover with a group of sorority girls. Her worst expectations were met, and surpassed - extreme promiscuity, drugs, psychological abuse, racism, violence, and rampant eating disorders were just a few of the problems. But even more surprising was the fact that these abuses were inflicted and endured by intelligent, successful, and attractive young women.
"Pledged" is an extraordinary gripping narrative that reads like a bestselling novel. With fly-n-the-wall voyeurism and remarkable insight, "Pledged" is a fast-paced account that manages to both expose the dark side of sorority life and endear its participants to us.[/I]
------------------------------------------------------------
The wild sorority sisters in Pledged make the brothers of Delta House look like altar boys." - Time Out New York
"Pledged is a powerful warning and an astonishing slice of American life." - Washington Monthly
]"Every parent of a college-bound daughter should read this book." - The New Republic

I think I may have to put this aside for another time.. To leap from the Amish way of life to this sort of book is so entirely different, I think I'm going to have to check out my stash again and see if I can find something a little more "middle of the road" for now.. Started reading this earlier today and just couldn't make the "transition"..
My son-in-law bought me several books about Hurricane Katrina for Christmas - maybe I'll try one of them for now..
