Freedom to Marry Day Protest Planned

Man's definition may have changed, but I don't think God's definition did. Maybe you can find some passage where God said something different than He did in Genesis 2:24. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

God's or the bible's definition of marriage have little bearing on this issue since the USA is a secular democratic republic.

Rick - I think you're beating your head on a rock here.
JoeEpcotRocks.
Keep chipping dude.:thumbsup2

Here's the kicker. If there was even the slightest chance that government was going to swoop down on someone like Joe and try to remove his right to practice his religion, I would gladly and emphatically stand next to him and fight with him so that such an abomination would never be allowed to happen.

Sadly, Joe has made it abundantly clear that he would never dream of doing the same. In fact, he would be on the opposite side fighting his absolute against basic equal human rights for gay men and lesbian. And he'd be doing so by using the "word of God" as his weapon of choice.

If you ask me, that in and of itself is incredibly sad.

ETA, not only is it incredibly sad, his actions go completely against anything the Bible says in terms of how one should treat another. And I find that the greataest sin of all.

I know I am coming late to this debate, but great post Rick. This is a democracy. I cannot honestly say how I feel on homosexuality(whether it is right or wrong, and how God feels on it), but you deserve it in this country to be allowed to be yourself.
:goodvibes

Move toa country with a pure democracy and you can have your wish. Otherwise, bear in mind that the constitution was set up to protect individuals from self-righteous majorities.

I sure wouldn't want to live in a country where morality gets defined by the religion with the most people that vote. What if your religion can't get folks to the polls? What if the athiests get out the vote better and now NOBODY can believe in God?? What if the Muslims get their folks out better-or the Wiccans?? How would the Religious Right feel about letting society vote then??

That's why we have courts and a Constitution. Our Founding Fathers believed that even the folks that hold minority opinions have rights too.

If their faith and resistance are so weak that they have to have laws to prevent them from doing anything that their religion considers immoral, they should be working on their own issues first.

*cough* Ted Haggard! *cough*
*cough* Paul Crouch! *cough*

Ban okra?! I may just have to move to, um, uh....

(Do they have okra in Canada?)
Why yes we do.And Hominy too. Just trying to lighten the thread again........

I don't understand why anyone feels like it's their duty to tell other people who they can and can not love and marry. It's not your place to tell others how to live their life. It's just so sad that people think that because god says it is wrong then it is wrong. How would you feel if someone where to tell you that no you can't marry the person you love because it's not right. It's a sad world we live in I'm not gay but I can't imagine all the crap people go through each day just because they are. It's sickening! :scared1:

You know how on Charlie Brown whenever they talk on the phone all you can hear is wa wah wa wah wa wah wahh, thats all I here whenever religion is introduced into the same-sex marriage issue. I can't even entertain it. I won't even argue it. We can talk religion when it is relevant to the discussion. What your God or your book says and how you interpret it has nothing to do whatsoever with our government enforcing human rights equally across the board for all of its citizens.

Hello Charlie Browns, this is not a theocracy.

Then keep your beliefs in the bedroom only and out of our society.

Our society? I'm sorry!

Society: A group of people who occupy a particular territory and speak a common language and share a common culture.

Who else can't be a member of your society?

Considering that I do not live *my* life by what the Bible says, why should I find a passage?

Because you said this:

And yet, if you look in the bible, the definition of "marriage" *has* changed. Funny how no one ever mentions that. Yep, we have had "marriage" remain the same for a few hundred years... and? Change happens and this too shall change.

I assumed you had "looked in the Bible" to find an example. Guess not...

Man's definition may have changed, but I don't think God's definition did.
But the institution of marriage in the Bible is *very* different from the legal institution we have today.

Do you believe the Biblical institution of marriage (including stoning non-Virgin brides and all that) should be our legal definition of marriage in the US?

And if we are going to have a legal definition of marriage that is different from the Biblical view, should we only allow those changes that help straight people, or should we allow changes that help gays as well?

Ok let society vote.

What if there was a vote on an amendment that said Christians could no longer get married, and the vote passed. Would you support it, since the majority voted for it?

You're talking about two different things.

in·sti·tu·tion –noun 1. an establishment, foundation

God established marriage as one man/one woman from the beginning. God's laws concerning sexual morality came later (& none of them contradicted His original plan).

Ok God's messages, laws etc have been delivered via her prophets, or at least people who said they were her prophets. They were if we assume passed on correctly and without influence of the passers on for that time not necessarily for a time when life and society had changed to such a great extent.

I really think God has other matters to be concerned with and that she has little real concern for the minutiae of our lives.

My teacher at Church school once said that if heaven was just sitting on clouds playing harps he did not want to go and for him heaven was his favourite football team winning! I think we all have our personal god and our personal heaven. And I dont think I could handle Joe's heaven.

Andy, Joe had made it abundantly clear that he knows for certain it's a choice because it's choice he made himself back in the day. He speaks from experience. If it works for him, so be it.

*Jaw drops to floor*

Joe=Ted Haggard?

Oh, that's too much!

Santa brought Daddy a Christmas present really early this year! :rotfl: :lmao:
