free soda onboard!!

Has anyone heard if they're adding free self serve beer kegs or pina colada fountains? LOL:hyper: I wouldn't get my husband off the ship!

I wouldn't leave the ship either! They would have to throw me off if they offered free pina colada fountains.

The "no bars" also makes sense from a financial standpoint. By having sodas free at the drink station on deck 9, they're encouraging passengers to SERVE THEMSELVES. This will mean shorter lines at the bars for customers who are buying alcoholic drinks. It also means less work for the bartenders; fewer bartenders = fewer employees needed

I love Disney, but don't think for a minute that they're making this change to make customers happy. It's a brilliant financial move on their part!

I do not think this is a financial move on their part....if anything it is loss of revenue.

I agree that it will be less work for the bartenders and possibly less bartenders. But they didn't pay the bartenders that much in the form of a salary, most of them relied on tips/gratuities on the drinks.

I do think that they did this from feedback from the customers. From the other side of the 'financial' standpoint, they were selling sodas and soda mugs at a large revenue and now that revenue is being seriously decreased.

This is a very nice Disney touch considering that other cruise lines have started to charge for sodas in the dining rooms during meal times and some charge for birthday cakes!

I wonder if Disney has made some new deal with the Coke people. There may not be any connection, but I read in my favourite newsgroup that the price of Coke in the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom has been reduced from $2.50 to $2.00 for a trial period (I don't remember for how long) It sounds unusual. Do you suppose they expect to sell more at the lower price?

Not to get flamed by the Pepsi lovers -- but us Coke lovers are happy it's Coke and not Pepsi! Just one for our side LOL.

as a diet Pepsi lover all I can say is all pop (soda) taste better when it's FREE!! So I will grin and bear it while pocketing the extra cash-considering I drink around 4-6 pops a day(I know water is better for me-can you believe I'm a nurse? well at least it's diet!) I'm still waiting for the word about the Pina Colada fountain though! Bring it ON! LOL:hyper:

<<<<I do not think this is a financial move on their part....if anything it is loss of revenue.>>>>>>

Trust me, I'm a Disney stockholder and I read the annual reports cover to cover. Michael Eisner doesn't do anything without a financial motive.

They will raise the price of the cruise to cover their "loss of revenue". This won't make much difference to the average cruiser because most people were already buying the mugs; its just a restructuring of the pricing.

I believe the move was financial also, but here is my spin. Alchohol is much more profitable than soda. If you are buying $10 of soda a day, you probably don't spend a lot on alchohol. Now that soda is free and you have that extra money in pocket, you are still going to spend it, just on other things such as alcohol. Soda cost pennies, so it won't cost Disney a whole lot.

I am happy about the free soda though, it was a good move on Disney's part. And, I will probably indulge in a few more alcoholic concotions now....;)
