Free Disney Dining Package for DVC Members?

:cool1:I am one of those who thinks that we, as DVC owners, should get more in the way of discounts, not giveaways. Do I think that we should all get free DDP all the time? Of course not, and I don't believe most people think this either. I believe that there are a significant number of owners, such as myself, whom it does not make sense to advantage of the annual pass discount because they won't be there long enough, and thus are ineligible to purchase TIW and there is no discount available on daily park tickets. Was it a mistake to buy DVC? NO!!! I like being able to stay in a larger room on Disney property or bring family/friends.... I do not consider it unreasonable for DVC members to automatically qualify to purchase a TIW card. Without this card, I will most likely eat in my Villa, or only go to quick service places to eat because the table service restaurants are quite highly priced. So, Disney would be making more than if I were to eat a pizza from Hess in my Villa. And let's face it, Disney still makes a profit on food purchased with TIW card or a similar percentage discount. As for park tickets, I don't consider a 10-20% discount for daily hopper passes unreasonable. Florida residents are given discounts, and I consider DVC members pretty much in the same catagory of consumer. I'm sure there are plenty of others who consider my ideas almost blasphemous and thus will be more than eager to tell me how fiscally irresponsible this would be and that I probably shouldn't have joined DVC to begin with...., so I am ready for your rebuttals :cool1:

There is nothing wrong with making the TIW card available to all members for $100, like FL Residents, or $75 for AP holders. But remember, to get any value from the $100 card, you need to spend at least $500 in the restaurants during the course of the year. Generally however, if you are going to spend $500 on TS meals, unless you have a large group, you'll be at WDW long enough to justify an Annual Pass.

There is also nothing wrong with a discount on MYW passes, although I would hope that they wouldn't take away the AP discount if they introduce a MYW discount. DVC Members used to get 10% off of Length of Stay passes, and nothing off of APs. Discounts and promos are always changing.

No rebuttals here! I agree with most of what you said. I definitely agree that DVC members should be given a similar discount that FL residents get. After all we are loosely difined as FL Residents in our deed - ok that may be streching it, but I own deeded property in florida!! And it is at Disney to boot, so I don't think it is unreasonable to give DVC members similar discounts for the Passes. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It really doesn't take much for 4 adults to charge up over $500 on TS food & drinks ....... trust me, it can be done in 3 dinner meals not eating that extravagantly :)

As for your second, point, that's the reason that I myself wouldn't complain too loudly to Disney, because that would be horrible if they took away the special on the annual pass.

That's how I considered myself a citizen of both Wi and Fl ;)

Fl residents get more than simple ticket discounts, they can buy seasonal passes, not APs, which would work for many members unless they travel in peak attendance seasons. They also get substantial discounts (seasonally) on WDW hotel rooms, similar to AP holders. I wouldn't expect to be treated like a full time resident. but a MYW ticket discount of some type would be good for members that tend to travel to WDW 10 or less days per year.

Simply owning deeded property does not legally define you as a resident of any state. It isn't just a case of Disney picking on DVC Members.

Now THAT would be a nice perk -- the seasonal pass is a fantastic value. I think it would be great if they could offer that to DVC members, not because they're somehow "residents" of Florida but simply as a perk to match the discounted APs. I don't feel entitled to it, but that more than anything else would really be a nice bonus.

Amen to that! We typically spend about $200 at California Grill (grilled cheese, choc milk and ice cream for DS, cheese course, 1st and 2nd course for me and DH, usually wine for DH, sometimes dessert) and Jiko is usually in the $175 territory. (usually eat at both each trip, but skipped Jiko this time - and no discount at CA Grill this time due to Mother's Day blackout, but we've long since paid for our TIW card)

This trip we also ate at CRT - that was $115 before the discount. Le Cellier was $101 AFTER the discount (I think about $125 before discount). We had less expensive meals (Tusker House and Beaches & Cream) where we saved $10 each. I can't remember now how much we saved on our lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe - it was after checkout and not on our bill. It was probably about $48 total (with a discount of about $12). So that's roughly $75 in discounts if I'm adding it in my head correctly.

This is exactly what I had in mind. I just want the ability to purchase the TIW card without having to get an AP (I'd also like a small discount on park passes because now I buy them through Undercover Tourist for less than I can get them from Disney).

We have reached the point in our lives that my hubby and I like to eat out at good restaurants. I like to be pampered :rolleyes1 Our kids are mostly grown and we go away ourselves. We went down for 5 days for our 25th Anniversary and just 2 of our dinners cost $750.00.

My husband isn't a big one for the parks he likes to lounge around the resort - so even when I get him to go to Disney more than half our vacation is spent outside the parks.

I would really like to be able to buy the TIW card without the annual pass - I don't think this "perk" would cost Disney anything in terms of lost profits (at least on me) and I would get to eat at all the restaurants I go to anyway. Win / Win from my perspective.:rotfl:
