Free dining/room only discount for the whole stay if discount dates end sooner?

I don't quite understand this about the discounts. I get free dining for my whole stay if I check IN during the fd period, right? Is it the same with room only discounts?
Say I want to stay at WDW from July 1st until July 15th (random dates). Assuming free dining is until July 3rd . That means I would get free dining for my whole stay because I checked in during the FD dates...right?
How about a room inly discount? If I check in July 1st and they offer a room only until July 3rd....do I only get the discount for the first 2 nights or does it apply for my whole stay as well?

No, room only discounts work by night. So if the deal ends in the middle of your trip, you will pay the higher rate for the remaining nights. But it does work the way you posted for free dining.

Yes, this is how alot of folks go into October with Free Dining. You can book up to 14 nights...which, for example, would carry you to checking out on October 9.

Correct - You can check in on the last day offered for FD and you will have it for the whole stay up to 14 days. For example, I have booked Dec 22-29th with FD (PIN). Dec 22nd is the last day offered, but I have it for my whole stay.

Different story when you FD starts AFTER you check in. In that case, your only option is a split reservation as long as it's only one or two days. You would do a room only for the first couple of days, and then you would have another reservation as a package with free dining. FD won't start in any case until the check-in day of FD. The problem is that FD requires you to get a minimum of 2 day tickets. If you have a package reservation prior to FD, you would will be paying much more in tickets. With a couple of days of room only ahead, you can request the tickets from the FD package ahead of time, but I believe you can only do this up to 2 or 3 days ahead.

Room only discounts are only good for the nights offered. If your stay ends or finishes halfway thru a discount, you will only have the discount for the corresponding nights.

Finally, if there are two different offers available, you can only have ONE offer per reservation - room only, FD, AAA, etc.

Oh - I should mentioned that years ago, there was such as thing as FD AND room discount, but that was the terms of the package. I had such a thing back in 2008 but only thru my Disney Visa rewards.
