I don't mind the beach- When I go- I want to get down to business and tan. All I bring is a huge sheet- a face towel, lotion and a bottled water- and that is all for DH and I to share. I lay there- flip a few times, relax and listen to the ocean. I do like to take a break and walk on the beach.

I hate going with DHs family- it is like a caravan going across the desert! SIL packs a cooler, has 10 chairs, 2 umbrellas, all the kids toys, a big hat! OMG- she is too high maintenance to bring to the beach- and then you have the kids with the sand and the running into the water and everyone chit chatting- when I see a group like that coming onto the beach and it is just DH and I,- I just *cringe*:scared: and say over and over- please don't plop your crap near us, please don't plop your crap by us!....ohhhhhh god--- yes, keep walking......further.....keep going...:rotfl2:

Maybe it is me- but I think laying in the sun on the beach is a "sacred thing" low maintenance, peace and quiet! :rotfl2: :confused3

I do too, we actually get that for the most part. The boys are either splashing in the water where I can't really hear them, or digging a big hole/fort with all the intensity of a high rise engineer. We travel pretty lightly, a very small igloo cooler, two beach chairs, towels and two buckets/shovels. We steer clear of families, too. The other kids always want to come over and wreck my kids' holes/forts, and their parents think it is cute because they are "sharing" ...well, ok, go share somewhere else. My kid is crazy intense when he is doing something like this and it really bothers him when you kid comes and steps (shares) all over his work.. get outta here, this section of the beach is MINE for today.

I'm so pleasant...One time we were next to some people who had absolutely no respect for the surroundings. I don't know about your beach, but ours has signs up all over not to walk on /destroy the sand grasses. They are very fragile and don't renew easily. They are the only thing keeping the beach from washing into the sea. Not a difficult concept. So this couple is letting their girls walk all over the grasses, trampling them on purpose. When they got to the point where they took a big stick and started beating at the roots, the angy conservationist in me stood up, walked over asked her to stop them from doing that, and calmly asked mom if they lived around here (thinking tourists...)yes, they did. Well, then I am sure you have seen the signs explaining how not to walk/destroy the sea grasses. She looked at me smiling the same empty smile she had been from the start and just nodded. I walked away, feeling really stupid that I had just defended GRASS, but why do people have to be so ignorant. If the grasses go, the beach goes..it's that simple.

I also hate it when I am downwind of a smoker. Sorry to smoking freaps out there, but the last thing I want to smell when I am out in the middle of mother nature is a cigarette. I mean, it's just ironic. Nature..smoking..of course some smokers think that the beach is just a big ashtray, from the number of butts we find while out there.

Wow, I had a lot to say on that subject, didn't I..you may now return to your regularly schedule freaping..

Good for you to speak up about the enviroment! We have so many oblivious people out there it is sad...it always, me, me, me! nd the sad thing is- these oblivious people raise oblivious little people! We got into this enviromental mess b/c no one cares- I am just like you-

Speaking of smoking- when I lived in St John USVI- we had tourists crawling all over the beaches. A friend of mine happened to be on the beach one day and she saw a tourist smoking- and then putting out their cig in the sand and was going to leave it there- she said- "um, excuse me- THE BEACH IS NOT YOUR ASHTRAY! Pick it up and throw it away!" :lmao:

There was another time I saw these kids- maybe 10 years old throwing rocks at some geese behind a local Kohl's store- well! I drove back there and gave it to them- I am sure they cussed me out after I left- but how could anyone just stand by and watch something like that! (I asked them how they would like it if I tossed rocks at their heads!:lmao: )

sad- sad- sad.........

:lovestruc Just the usual -"if it's not one thing, it's your mother..." miss her, wish she was still around, wish she could see the kids. After almost 5 years I still catch myself thinking, "hey I should call mom..."

Thanks for all the hugs...And for making me smile:goodvibes

awwww....

Wow, Tink, I'm so sorry. Its funny, my mom has been gone for 20 years now and, everyonce in a while, I do the same thing. I miss that she's missing the rest of my life and the girls lives. But on the upswing, isn't it nice that we have the kind of moms that are worth missing like that? After all this time, they still were such an important and warm part of our lives that we instinctively want to share our lives with them. When it just kinda pops in outta the blue like that, I sometimes wonder if its because she's thinking of me too...

:surfweb: Good morning freaps!

Did anyone else get woken up by the earthquake this morning? The epicenter was about 40 miles from here. No major damage reports so far.

I didn't feel anything and found out about it when listening to the radio on the way to the train. My dogs were barking in the middle of the night so I'm wondering if maybe they felt or sensed something. I kept yelling at them to shut up and finally I was so mad that I made DH get up and take them to the laundry room, they usually sleep in our bedroom. Now, I feel kinda bad because they might have been just wanting to warn us:scared:

I know a girl on another thread I visit said she was at work and felt it.

I felt the quake here.:goodvibes DH had just hit the snooze on the alarm when it happened. That's the most action our bed has had in a while.:rotfl2:

Kellie-sorry about the burning. That must have been very painful.

Tinkerbean-so sorry you are having a rough time and missing your momma. It must be really hard on you. Here's a hug.

And to everyone who ever stands up to brats kicking the sea grass, here's to you.:drinking1 I hate parents that don't teach their children respect for the environment.

Where is everybody..it's like you all have lives or something???

 to everyone who needs one..or one of these if you need one..

Had a wonderful day today. We went to the park and I did yard work when I got home. What a lovely day today. I even got a mountain bike for my DD off freecycle today. I sure hope everyone else got to enjoy the day. Going to Notre Dame Blue and Gold Game tomorrow. I'll check back in after the game.

:cutie:

OOOHHHHH, It's Saturday, it's Saturday, it's Saturday, it's Saturday, it's Saturday.........
