FP+ at the parks - when a ride is down or you miss your window?

Working on my first FP+ trip this May. I have been reading all the FP+ threads including MesaBoy2's great thread and have a couple questions.

1. What happens if a ride is down during your window?

It seems that if you are at a park and the ride is down MDX automatically assigns a different ride? Do you get a chance to able to use FP+ on that same ride later in the day?

I am interested in general on this but have a specific situation. We will be at MK on May 10 which is the last day of POTC before its scheduled long refurb. In truth I was not planning to visit MK until later that week but switched MK to Sunday so we could ride POTC.

I have read about all the problems POTC has been having in recent months and also guessing it may have longer lines than usual because of it being the final day of operation for some months. In any case I am thinking about getting a FP+ for POTC that day to increase our chance of riding in case it is down for part of the day and/or the crowds really do surge for POTC that day. Normally I would not think POTC would need FP because of its huge capacity.

So what if POTC is down during our FP window that day? Will we get an automatic chance to ride it later in the day when it presumably comes back on line? If so that makes choosing FP+ for POTC more compelling for me on May 10.

2. What happens if we have a morning FP+ and for some reason are late getting to the park? Is it gone are automatically reassigned to something else?

3. Here is a trickier question. We will have four of our kids - young adult men ages 19-23 - in our group who may prefer to sleep in one morning (or more than one LOL!) and could miss a FP+ window. So what happens if I book a pre-noon FP+ for six of us on the same ride and only I and DW make the FP window? So our two FPs register as used but the four kids do not. What happens to their FPs if say they show up at noon after the window has passed for them?

Thanks!

If you miss a FP window, that FP is gone. I'm not sure about what happens if the ride is down during the window though. I think they allow you to get on later when it's back up, but I'm not positive.

Agree with PP, if you miss a FP, it's gone. Each FP is separate, so if just the DSs sleep in, their FP's are gone. You can go with or without them. You could try to move their passes day of if they sleep in, though, and get them later times.

Usually, if a ride goes down, they will let you on later in the day.

You can reschedule the kids FP+ that morning if it looks like they will not be getting around. If a ride is down, you can use your FP+ later, or you may get a notice that you may choose another ride.

If a ride is down, you get an email and a notification in MDE App that instructs you. You basically get a freebie FP+ to use any time that ( after your FP WINDOW OPENS) same day at that same park. There are restrictions on it though, you get a choice of similarly tiered attractions to choose from, including the ride you missed out on should it re open later in the day.

Yup!

1. What happens if a ride is down during your window?
you will receive an emial letting you know that its down.
it will tell you that you can wait to see if the ride opens again that day and if/when it does you can use your FP+ at any point.
or
you can walk up to one of the other FP+ rides that is listed in the email at any point during the day and get in the FP+ line no problem.

2. What happens if we have a morning FP+ and for some reason are late getting to the park? Is it gone are automatically reassigned to something else?
if you miss your FP+ window then your FP+ is gone.
if you know you will be running late you can always try to change the time for later via MDE on the computer or app.

same answer as question 2.
if they miss the window their FP+ is gone.
if you know they will miss the window then you can always try to change just their FP+ to later.

if you know that is likely that only you and DW will be in the parks prior to noon then i would suggest either making everyone's FP+ for later to begin with or if you don't mind your kids going on these rides without you then make you and your DW's FP+ for earlier and your kids for later to begin with.

Thanks for all the detailed answers!

I have a related question on the issue of knowing you will miss your FP window and re-scheduling. Does that have to happen before the window opens or by the time it closes?

Before the window closes. At the end time of the window, your allotted FP expires.

Some people have said that they got broken ride FP+ replacement notification via MDX and email. In late July, ours only showed up via email. So be sure to check both places, just in case.

I had troubles with this in Oct. People here assured me it was a glitch or mistake and not supposed to be the system, but the only 2 times I wanted to change a FP time were because the window had opened and I knew we weren't going to make it within the hour. 5 min into our window, the FPZ was no longer showing up on my app, so I couldn't make any changes - it was gone just as if I had used it.

To be on the safe side, I'd try hard to change before your window opens, just in case.

What others have said. Missing your Fast Pass window due to a ride outage is pretty awesome.

I had this happen in Oct.

When you miss a window due to ride being down they basically give you a "freebie" on similar rides.
We had Winnie the Pooh go down and we could fast pass a bunch of rides in Fantasyland (peter pan, small world, Winnie the Pooh, Little Mermaid, etc.) for the REST of the day.

Thus we were able to ride (unexpectedly) on Peter Pan's Flight late in the day.

And, if you get to a ride and the wait time is short, change your FP to a new selection.
That is a great suggestion. Thanks. Will keep it in mind.

Totally off-topic: Do you think DL may debut the new parade by the Tink 1/2 Weekend?
I can't see any of the new 60th celebration stuff (such as the new parade) debuting until May 22 or after. Sorry!

I have been able to change my FP+ reservation up until the time the window closes- we were headed to Space Mountain but got a slightly later start and then had a problem on the ferry so we weren't going to make our window- it was almost the end of the window when I changed- most of them changed just fine- 1 of the group however was given a different experience as Space that we had things for did not have full availability for the whole group.
