It doesn't really bother me that much. The only way it bothers me is if it's repetitive, especially when it's teenagers sayin the f word every other word. It also bothers me when it's in a song and all you hear is bleeps because it's all cursing!

Yes. I sure have been known to let a few 'vocals' rip when super angry (mostly when the kids were younger), maybe at an 'errant driver, or in the hitting of fingers with hammer, dropping of glass, etc. However, I do object to the way foul language (and seems most people have a basic undestanding of what is foul and what is not) and how pervasive it has become in past years in everyday conversation, and significantly in so many of the entertainment mediums, music, movies, TV, both pay for as well as free network.

I guess I am one of those old grumpy fuddy duddies now in my old age. :)

I voted no, but that is really aimed at when I feel that foul language is acceptable. For example, when I'm at an adult party, with my friends, or at a club or bar. I wouldn't curse around children, people I don't know/know well, or in a professional atmosphere. Sure I ease up at work when I'm around co-workers I'm comfortable with. Wierdly, the "F" word doesn't bother me and I think it's one of the most useful. I have very good control over my language depending on the situation.

I voted no because . . . No, personally it does not bother me unless it is used in extreme excess. If children are present however, then that's a different story, ~ then yes, it bothers me very much

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it offensive to my ears and it just shows me how ignorant people are that they can't come up with something clever to say...

I voted yes. To me it doesn't matter if there are children around or not, I find it rude and offensive.

My DFi was particularly upset one day about something that had happened. He called to tell me about it, and kept using the F word repeatedly. And I finally told him that I knew that he was upset, but his continual swearing was offensive and upsetting to me and that I was going to hang up and he could call me when he had calmed down and could speak respectfully.

And I guess that's just the thing, to me it's a matter of respect. I don't want to hear the words, the same as I don't want to see people groping each other in public (I'm not talking kissing, I'm talking GROPING). If you want to talk that way or behave that way in private or at YOUR house, with YOUR friends, then fine. But I don't need to be assaulted by your foul language, thanks.

Well, yes and no. The average curse words don't bother me that much, I don't like them and do not like to hear young people curse or those who curse around kids. But I am really offended by the those who use the Lords name as a curse word.... Jesus Christ, or God D*** That bothers me big time.

worse than a few cuss words IMHO. Far worse!

Yep, ITA. While foul language is largely unnecessary, I don't find it all that bothersome. Well, unless it comes out of the mouth of a child. Ick.

None of them bother me, not a single one but I'd be rather embarassed if my DS started using them. As much as I try to watch my language, on occassion I say something I wouldn't want him to repeat (simply because of society)

I guess I'm on the bandwagon of "who decided those few words were bad?"

As far as "shove it" goes, I say that on a daily basis...guess I'll never run fro office

It bothers me a lot. I am, however, guilty of some slip ups myself. But that doesn't change the fact that I think it is wrong to use that kind of language.

No big deal most of the time unless there's kids around.Besides in music it can be fun to play guess the dirty word

Yes it does & I honestly don't see a need for it. We have plenty of other words in the English Language that can be used to express ourselves rather than resort to foul language. It's demeaning, not cool!

I find some of it to be very uncomfortable at times. Our society on a whole seems to be more tolerant to foul language.

I prefer it not to be used.

No. Whether or not the "f" word or "s" word or any other similar word is considered foul language is YOUR opinion, not mine. It's just a word and if you choose to accept the stigmas attached to them, that's your problem. Using them doesn't make me any less intelligent nor does it make me stupid. In fact, I could give you MY opinion which is that anyone who thinks that the use of a word makes someone stupid, is the stupid one.

The F word most likely comes from the German word ficken, meaning to strike or move quickly, to penetrate.

The S word is a very old word, with an Old English root, "scitan". The verb "to S" dates back to 1308, and the noun form is from the 16th century. The interjection was not around until the 1920's.

The B word originally referred to female animals, especially dogs. It comes from the word bicce, which is Old English and dates back to around 1000. However, there is also an Old Norse word bikkja, and it is unclear which of these terms the modern word came from; however both mean the same.

The B term began applying to women as early as the 1400's and meant "lewd" or "sensual". It was a metaphor, and not uncommon to be used in literature.

On a side note, the term SOB first appeared in literature in 1330, but you don't see it again until 1605 in Shakespeare's King Lear.

I voted yes but only because ' foul language ' is such a broad term. To hear curse words doesn't offend me in the least and I have been known to swear like a trooper at times myself. However, I never swear around ds and because I don't want to slip up, I've pretty much cut it out altogether. I don't let kids swear in my classroom unless it's in the context of the literature we're reading. When they ask why, I tell them that it doesn't offend me personally (they're disappointed by that I'm sure) but that it's not the place for it and it's my job to teach them how to speak properly...they don't need any instruction on swearing.

However, it really bothers me to hear bigotted language or homophobic language. I get a lot more mad at that in the classroom than the occasional s word. It also really bothers me to hear God's name taken in vain.

I would say that even though swear words don't offend me personally, I don't use them around others b/c they may offend them, and I would like the same courtesy extended to me in terms of blasphemy which I know doesn't offend a lot of others.

An occasional slip doesn't really bother me, as long as the word used, isn't used, in conjuction with God or Jesus. This makes me cringe.

edit: I should never post ANYTHING before I've had my morning coffee :p
