Is DCL still doing formal and semi formal nights on the 7 night cruises. And if so, any ideas which night they are on the 7 night Eastern cruises? Are most still dressing up pretty formal? Or has it become more relaxed. We just booked the April 2 cruise yesterday. So I am scrambling to get things planned.

Not sure about days, but for several years now it has really been optional.

You do you and don't worry about what others are doing. I've never gotten that - if you want to dress up, dress up and don't worry about what people you're never going to see again do or don't do.

Not sure of nights and all, but agree with Dug720. We have always seen a mix of very formal, to nicely dressed, to very casual. I would just dress how you like without adding any stress to the enjoyment of your cruise.

For our upcoming cruise on the Fantasy on 3/26 someone called DCL and formal night will be on 3/27 and pirate night will be 3/29.

Is that a Western or Eastern? We are doing an Eastern on 4/2. I know the two cruises usually have different itineraries.

Formal will be night 2 and pirate night 4 for eastern

I normally sail 7 days and have always had Formal night on night 2 and semi-formal on night 5 or 6 but it varied according to which cruise.

So I found most are not dressed up since Covid. I thought it was an error on the cruise app in January. The majority of my cruise were not in formal wear. May daughter felt at best maybe 10%, but probably less with actually formal gowns and tuxedos.

But if your family wants nice pictures, absolutely bring your best. The photos will be outstanding. But the majority were not in formal wear in January. I felt uncomfortable but I understand the transatlantic will be more formal, here’s hoping. My formal wear is more low cost wedding party gown not Gala or Ball gowns.

They key with formal night is do what YOU like. Don't worry about what others are doing. Because "formal" is optional. No matter which cruise it is. I don't like to get dressed up so I don't. But I enjoy seeing the families that do dress up.

I'd agree with that. My husband LOVES to dress up. And I get on board for formal night and semi-formal night...because it's important to him. We're cruising Alaska next and I hear it's decidedly more relaxed, but we're still going to live it up for my husband.

I hope you have a great time! Sounds like your husband is a lucky guy!

Yes, I just disembarked from a Fantasy cruise yesterday, and there was both a formal night and a semi-formal night, in addition to pirate night. Plenty of people dressed for dinner on formal night. Plenty of people also didn't dress for dinner, but seeing people dressed for dinner on formal night was not at all unusual.

You mentioned the “key” to formal night is dress as you want. So then you can’t dress as you want on non-formal nights? I can’t see anything happening if someone wore a formal on pirate night. I don’t see why even have a formal night on 7 night cruises any longer as you are the saying exactly what the majority say. Maybe have formal night on 8+ sailings or pick one restaurant on the second night. Sign up in advance. I’d love that.

I prefer to not stand out draw attention. Attention makes me uncomfortable at my current weight. You don’t like those types of clothes for yourself. I don’t like when people look at my outfit which would stand out from the majority and also see my weight. I’m not sure why people think they can tell someone “well don’t care,” and they will stop caring. When has it ever worked that way? And you “enjoy seeing families dressed up” just feeds my uncomfortable fears. Not bringing formal wear anymore unless daughter wants pictures because I just can’t, not care. I’m planning on 2 semi-formal nights on 7 night cruises going forward.
I’m not having any problem with you, I know other people feel like you. Please don’t take my rant personally, several comments similar to yours contributed to my response.

People don’t have to vote like me, hate ice cream like me, or like disco I think the Bee Gees are amazing! I’m not going to share my voting thoughts or bring attention to myself at a nice dinner.
What does get me upset most is that I don’t want to care and I don’t want to respond here. But I just do care, no matter how much I have tried not to care. And believe me I have deleted more than one response about this subject on far too many threads. I think the kids say “Triggered”

No, my comment was exclusively about Formal night. There's hardly a dress code other than no bathing suits or ripped clothes in the main dining rooms. What other people wear doesn't effect me is all I meant. Formal night is optional and that's good for my family because we don't like to dress up. But, again, people should do what makes them happy. In fact in my 6 cruises so far I have seen families that are dressed up for every dinner cause that's what they like to do. And fyi, I'm not like standing there staring at them for prolonged periods of time. :) I'm talking like a quick glance in their direction. I wish it didn't bother you so much, because I'm sure whatever outfit you pick is nice.

But no worries, I don't assume you're angry at me specifically.
