For anyone interested in seeing a gunite pool being built- ahh! crawly/jumpy things!

Looks good--ours wasn't "gunnite" (not to my knowledge anyway)--but the "spraying" process looked exactly the same.

wahoo for you!! Not long now!

This is great - thanks for taking the time to document this for us.

I'm happy it's going so well for you.

very cool! when is the estimated completion date? (can't be far by the looks of it all)

this is looking exactly like my IL's pool. (see my siggy pic - that's our dogger swimming in their pool...so nice for her to swim in the pool and not worry about ripping a liner. )

It'll probably be another couple of weeks until everything is done. The pool edging is next, then the tile and decking, and more electrical work. Fencing will be the last step.

You're right, it does look like your IL's pool! The steps look identical. I can't wait until ours is finished and we can take that first dip! Your dog is adorable and I bet he loves to go swimming! :)

That's amazing! The wait would be killing me though -- especially on days like yesterday! Are you going to have a heater? How 'bout one of those robot vacuum thingies? How 'bout at least a hot pool boy?

Yes, yesterday was very hot and I wanted to go swimming! Yes, we're going to install a heater at the beginning of next summer, and we're definitely going to get an automatic vacuum cleaner.

Funny you mention a pool boy. Check back to post #35. I said I wanted that guy who is in the pool raking rocks to be my pool boy. He was pretty hott! I'd really like Johnny Depp in a Speedo cleaning my pool and bringing me refreshing beverages! :teeth:

I remember that post, but you can't see him too well in the picture! Need a better picture.

I think I'd like someone a little more muscular than Johnny Depp (although nothing wrong with him!) and definitely not in a Speedo. Give me a hot guy in board shorts any day!

wow it is lookin great....keep posting the pics..cant wait to see it once its done...

Friends of our just put in this exact same pool. We have been having the best summer in it. Last Friday night it was so hot and we were in it until 1:30 Am and it felt like bath water.

Have fun. You will absolutly love this pool.

Looks like y'all got yersleves a cement pond!! :rotfl2:

Looks good!

The pool is coming along so nicely! Thanks for sharing...I have always wanted a pool we have the yard for it, but the water table is too high :(

If Johnny Depp isn't available, I'll take Owen Wilson. Speedo, boardshorts, whatever! :)

luvflorida-

I am curious about the rocks that were "poured" under the steel and the boards put in under the steel. Did your pool company say why they did that??

The reason I ask is becasue we had a pool put in several months ago, and that was not done. Of course laws and regualtions can vary from city to city, county to county and state to state (we are in AZ).

The construction booklet that the pool company gave us says something about "stone packing the bottom of the pool with a minimum of 12" of stone to protect plumbing, etc., and to achieve the desired grade to pool floor."

The boards were placed along the sides of the pool before the gunite was applied. The booklet doesn't say anything about the boards, but it seems like if the boards weren't there, the gunite would just be sprayed through the steel bars onto the dirt.

I'll ask the pool guys next time they are out and I'll let you know what they say. :)

I believe the stones are there for 2 reasons. 1st for drainage under the pool. To keep the water from settling under the gunite. 2nd for a "secure" base for the gunite. The stones compact, and wont go anywhere but still allow drainage.

The boards, are for a backer. They prevent the gunite from being absorbed into the dirt behind the rebar.

The pool looks incredible. I'm guessing- the railing for the steps will be in the middle of the step? kids LOVE playing on a center railing, we have them in our steps.

One thing I dont get is that ledge in the deep end...unless its not really a deep end- i'm thinking like 9 foot- it must be less than that, because its only 1 "step" to get out??

Do your research on the automatic vacums' some work much better than others, and its not necessarily the most expensive one that works the best.

It looks awesome.... are they painting the gunite- or is the plaster going to be colored? What color?

FYI, we use white epoxy paint. a few reasons for using white instead of blue. 1st, white won't chaulk like a color from the chemicals, 2nd- white relfects sun, 3rd, water is naturally blue, if you paint the pool white, the water will look carribean all the time, a beautiful turqoise color... I'll see if I have pics of our white pool. Everyone thought I was crazy when I painted the blue pool white, but now everyone agree's with me LOL

Yes, they did say something about drainage as a reason, also.

We aren't putting in any kind of handrail on the steps. And, you're right, the deep end is only going to be 6 feet so the one step should work. I think technically it's called a swim-out.

White plaster will be applied over the gunite and we choose a bluish-green tile to line the water's edge. We're going for that Caribbean look!

I'd love to see a picture of your pool. Thanks!

Let us know when the Dis pool party is. ;)

It looks great. I am so envious.
