I have been considering working from home, I am not sure what is out there for me. I have been doing a little research on the computer. There is one thing that I have found and it has to do with posting links for company's at home from my computer. A woman by the name of 'Diane Thompson' is promoting this offer thru what is being called Freedom Agency . I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this and/or if it is legitimate? Any input would be great ASAP!!Thank you.

I've worked at home twice, and they were both companies with brick-and-mortar offices that either had multiple consultants working out of their homes (when I was doing court reporting by going to depositions and transcribing tapes at home) or it was a company where I worked for them and then worked out a deal to work from home.

There are legit work at home situations but they are few and far between, with a lot of scams in the middle. I believe UPS hires people to work at home, and there's a company called Caption Colorado that I know a few people who work for them, but I do not know anything about their hiring practices.

Workplacelikehome.com is a message board about work at home jobs. I currently work for a company called Arise.com and take inbound phone calls for Carnival Cruise lines. Arise also has Disney as one of their clients as well as other compaines. There is a start up cost to work for them and the classes to train are between 6-8 weeks long, that you do online with an instructor.

a friend of mine does part itme work at home. she screens candidates for a major cosmetics company. She was able to get the position because she use to work for one of their make up counters and after she stopped working they called her for this position.

She really enjoys it but i know i am not disciplined enough to do it.

I work from home but all of the things I do are for actual bricks and mortar companies (a university, a genealogical society, etc.). In addition I have my own business and take clients as well.

I have a full time at work job, but work part time at home as a Thirty-One Consultant. I've been doing it since Oct and am starting to make a small amount of money now.

I don't know how much you are trying to make, but some form of home sales business could work.

But she'd have to leave her home for that, if I was considering that I'd much rather find a part time job - that's guarnteed $$$.

I work at home as a transcriptionist. There are many of us. The forums wahm.com and workplacelikehome.com have a lot of information regardng online businesses as well as independent contractor work.

Unless you have a part time job that's paying you $25/HR and let's you work whenever you want, I'd have to disagree.
I've been a PartyLite consultant for over 4 yrs now (I love Thirty-one bags, BTW! I use them to carry my display). I make anywhere from $1,000 to $3,500 per month depending on how busy I am, but I set my own schedule and never work more that maybe 15 hours a week. (I should say that I have a team, so I make much more than $25/HR, plus I get paid whenever someone buys anything from my website)

This job is called spammer. If you choose it, remember that you will be on the same list of hated people as telemarketers, repo men, and collection agencies.

I have several friends that work for JetBlue. They set you up to make airline reservations from home.

I've worked from home for several years - as a medical transcriptionist and I also work for Arise which was previously mentioned. It's phone work, so it doesn't work for many.

Working at home isn't for everyone, and legit jobs are definitely hard to come by. It's frequently more difficult than working at a normal B&M type job.

I don't know who they staff through, but UHAUL, UPS, and 1-800-flowers I know hire work at home agents. Maybe check out the telecommuting jobs section of Monster or whatever that other online job site is (can't recall the name).

Good luck in your search. Hopefully you'll find something with some of the leads given :thumbsup2

Good for you! You are an exception I'm sure, and how many do you have under you? That's a HUGE part of being successful in a home sales business. Again you have to leave your home, usually in the evening, usually on weekends... unless I'm wrong. She wants to work from home.

This.

While there are some people who make a decent amount of money doing this, the vast majority do not, and many even lose some amount of money over the long haul.

I'm not sure how the $25/hr figure was computed, but I suspect the $1,000 to $3,500 per month figure is gross commission, and probably doesn't include
appropriate deductions for puchasing supplies, the various promotional materials that need to be ordered periodically from the parent company, the cost of driving, etc. I also highly suspect that the actual amount of time involved, once you consider phone calls, e-mails, entering in orders, and all those "little" things, is probably a lot more time than most first estimate.

A good, objective measure, would be to ask what was the net profit reported on a schedule C for the year, and appropriate self-employment tax. (No, I don't necessarily think the PP should post this info, I'm offering this rhetorically more for philosophical sake) Divide that by a very accurate accounting of all time actually spent directly or indirectly doing activities related to the business, and you'll have a decent idea of hourly "wage".

Back to the OP's original post, yes, it can be possible to get a job working from home, but the scams far outnumber the legitimate opportunities. Most people I know who do any kind of work from home are either doing contract work in the web/IT/graphical/software space, or are doing work for a company which they worked at in person previously, or with whom they otherwise have an existing relationship.

One last important thought to throw on the table is "why work from home?" There are plenty of great reasons, but one that I hear somewhat often, is that there are children at home, so the parent can't really leave the home. Or, don't want to leave the home, or want to be able to work while "still being home with the kids", etc. Those kind of situations are often a recipe for failure, unfortunately.

Yeah It is probably a scam. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I have had the opportunity to work at home for the past 10 years taking calls for during at home call centers including LiveOps, West and Arise. I enjoy making my own schedule. I usually clear a few thousand a month sometimes more. Here is a list of work at home call center jobs

I work from home as a travel agent, owning my own business. I am always getting emails from random people asking to do link exchanges or to post my link on their site. I immediately delete every single one of those emails.

How do you like Arise? Is it easy to get started? Good/bad and ugly about it?

I am also looking for a work at home job. I would love to take calls for Disney or Carnival. I love those companies.... maybe I'll look into that. My reason for wanting to do an "at home" instead of a brick and mortar type job is commute time. We live 25 miles from the nearest city (which is pretty small) where the jobs are. We are in a rural farming town. There is one small gas station in the next town over and that's it. My kids will all be in school. :cool1: Good luck with your search and wish me luck with mine. :)
