Was about to start my trip down today but you need a canoe to drive out of NY today. Wow. Good luck to anyone on I-95 in the northeast/mid-Atlantic. It's ugly out there.

sounds good!:thumbsup2 do you text or talk?

Both, depending which I can hear in the noise, lol.

We are fine along I 81/ I 80, no storms yet. Tomorrow is more of the same. Did you see the route that came up for me, it stays west of the rain event.
Hope you get going soon. :surfweb:

OPPPS
since I hit the send button it started raining. Not hard but it is raining now. I think Phila and the larger cities will have the worst of it. But at least it isn't 99* out.

If it was just rain in the NY area I would have left when the rain slowed down -- but the weather maps show rain and thunderstorms literally right on top of I-95 all the way into N. Carolina for most of the day and even tomorrow.

Good luck and travel safe.

im going 78-81-77-26-95-4. i stay away from the east coast and philly/ dc/balt/richmond. if its the dead of winter i go 78-81-66-17-95-4. the only city in the northern end is richmond. i just drove from home to the contemp. in 16 hours and my normal time is 16 1/2 going either way. google is great but there times are as long as theres no traffic etc.... i have an atlas and gps with me i havnt had the atlas out in about 10 years and i used the gps so i can see how fast im going easier and we used it to get around a wreck in june.

DVCZERFS thanks for the info! My husband and I are leaving about 5AM this Tuesday taking the same way.We pick up 33 in Saylorsburg. We thought we'd stop in Brunswick for the night, but if we make as good time as you did, then maybe we'll just drive straight through. Our first time driving to Disney. I hope we like it!

:wave2: I live near Chambersburg (to the east). If you happen to see a little white Subaru putting around with a Lime Green Mickey Head in the driver's side back window, that's us. Dh decided to not take it out after our last trip. :)

Sorry we didn't see you:sad1: We had breakfast at the Flamingo restaurant and left the area around 10 AM because of the weather.

Dvczerfs, drove by exit 67 awhile ago, needless to say you couldn't see anything. In 42 days when we drive by again I'll remember to look!

Anyone trying to go South should take the inland route during this storm. We didn't hit the torrential rain coming east until Hershey. I gather I95 is a mess.

Been following this thread for a while now. Gained a lot of valuable info and had a ton of questions answered by reading it. Anyway... left our home at 3 AM on Friday, Aug 5th. Did Rt 13 over CBBT to RT 58 over to I-95 and on south. Drive down was uneventful. Worst part was from our house to I-95. After that, clear sailing all the way to Orlando where we hit afternoon traffic from downtown to Disney exits.

Left Disney property at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Aug 12th. Pulled into our driveway at 11:45 PM last night. Felt we were very fortunate to not experience any delays on I-95 from Daytona to Emporia, VA. Cruise control set for 80 MPH most of the drive on I-95.

This was an "experiment" for us as we usually fly, but after this pleasant experience, we will definately consider driving again.

BTW, travelled with wife & 2 children (13 & 7). Door to door for us was 877 miles. Not quite 2,000 miles, but pretty darn close!

you may want to try to get out earlier if you can. you want to get by harrisburg and through maryland and w.virginia before rush hour starts. after that you should be good. you will miss char. nc rush hour and being a tuesday, you wont hit alot of vacation traffic. we only stop for gas and we eat in the car while driving. even when we stop its not for long. have a good trip!!!:thumbsup2

:lmao: now when you come through again, when you cross into pa. the first exit is easton, the second one is where im at. when you look to your right, you will see the entire lehigh valley. as long as its clear out.:lmao: and dont forget to slow down so i can jump in!!:lmao:

Sitting at the tire store getting two new tires and an oil change. We hit the road in 5 days heading to WDW!

Sounds like a plan, however, I can see by your ticker you are only a day or so behind us...:yay:

I am driving down to Disney from Long Island, NY against the judgement others, but hey I feel more comfortable with my own car and all my luck my plane would get snowed in if I did the airplane route. At least in the snow I can drive still! I am going to use roadsideamerica.com to help with stops/rest areas on the way down so that my 6 YO has time to stretch. Does anyone recommend anything? this will be our first long distance trip somewhere with our son. Does anyone do state gifts? Any idea for those? Or does anyone have a must bring for the car list?

Weather? What weather? We cancelled a church picnic / pool party on Sunday because of the anticipated "weather" -- 2" of soaking rain throughout the day with possible severe storms in the afternoon. We didn't see a drop of rain until 6:00 p.m. Saturday was dry for us too. I've eaten at the Flamingo twice and won't go back. I can never figure out why their parking lot is so packed.

Ok, back on a Disney subject -- I think I'm going to book my next WDW vacation later today. Dh has been asking for a week if I've booked yet. The most recent room-only PIN we received was through the month of March. They referred to this offer as the fall / winter offer, so I am hoping they come out with a spring offer that includes my April dates. We're hoping for a new-to-us vehicle before the next trip. Just not sure how much I trust the '01 Subaru. She's been to Florida three times since we got her in 2006. Might be time for a new set of wheels. Personally, I've got my eye on a Ford Edge or GMC Equinox.

i got 7 inches so far of rain. :sad2: im no car expert and maybe we just got a lemon but we have a equinox at work and that thing has more miles going up and down on the mech. lift than it does going forward and backward. subarus are tuff little cars. there not cheap but what is. good luck on car shopping, i hate it.:lmao: im guessing if they are going to come out with anything it wont be till nov/dec range. in 09 when we stayed at the contemp. in may, i think that room deal came out in late jan. i didnt make my resi till mid. feb. theres a gazillion rumors floating around but it looks like they are heading more towards the package discounts than room discounts. they want to lump your room, meals, mugs all into one price. i realy dont pay much attention anymore being a member of dvc but i still look for a quick week room deal if i can pull it off.:thumbsup2
