So I have a new one name. Her name is Minnie. Our kids hugged the old van and thanked it.http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/284045_10150336487956972_509856971_9591428_4754243_s.jpg

I know how you can get attached to a car that has served you well. Many, many years ago, our first car that we bought brand new finally died. We held a funeral for it. We took off the logo (before it was sent to the junkyard) and put it along with the key on plaque and set the plaque on a table between two candles and some flowers. We invited our friends and one brought a keyboard and played Swing Low Sweet Chariot. Our mechanic (one of our good friends) gave the eulogy. Someone brought a dried up Christmas wreath with a black ribbon on it. It was really a nice send off for our car and we had a lot of fun remembering the good times in it.

We are almost packed and ready to go... tomorrow night is the night we are going! We decided to take 95 down and the "alternate" route back to give it a try.... We debated trying it down too, but decided that we felt safer staying on 95 overnight since we drive straight through on the way down but stop on the way back.

I am not a huge lover of long car trips, but the kids and DH don't seem to mind too much - and I will do what it takes to get the 5 of us where we are going!!! I can't wait to get on the Dream, and then we are heading over to POR for a few days...we are going to SeaWorld and Aquatica - should be a fun trip! :cool1:

:thumbsup2 have a good trip!!

There's a 2,000+ mile round-trip driver connection to a new book out on a Walt Disney legend: Fess Parker: TV's Frontier Hero. ;)

All the best. :thumbsup2

I am now 13 days out from my first drive to WDW in 14 years. Took the van in for an oil change yesterday and they now have a new service there. They actually check the windshield for chips, cracks and the like. I had a nice chip just starting to show signs of cracking. Oil change and windshield repair done. I knew the windshield was hit by something on a road trip back from the Lancaster area in June but I couldn't find it. One less thing to worry about. Hopefully the radiator flush and check-up of the brakes, belts and hoses will be done saturday. It has been a lousy summer; first the AC in my house went and now I have a new refrigerator being delivered saturday. I may have to put the car off depending on when the fridge is being delivered. Disney can't come soon enough.

:thumbsup2 im with you there. just about everytime we leave or come back im buying a major appl. a few years ago i had to buy a roof. this past june, the day before we took off for wdw, there was water on the kitchen floor, the dishwasher broke. so, i have all new appl. so im hoping im in good shape.:lmao:(knock on wood)

Hi,
Leaving on the 23rd for our first road trip to Florida! I'm excited :cool1:, but hate highway driving (or riding I should say since DH does all the driving) and have some major anxiety issues with it. We are coming from Rochester, NY and drive every year to Myrtle Beach in April and take I95. We've decided to take the I79-I77-I26-I95 route to Florida - just wondering what people think of that route over I95 - less traffic overall? Less truck traffic?
Thanks for any advice!

So it's not just us!!!! ;) This year has been the worst. We have our biggest trip ever planned, leave on the 21st, hooray! :cool1:, and it just happens to be the year our heat pump decided to explode, our SUV needed tires, my motorcycle needed a rear tire, and oh, did I mention, we lost a ton of our retirement money in the recent market dump?

You know what though......I don't care! I'm going to Disney World!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

the best thing i could tell you is try it. see what you think. you wont be disapointed trust me. being your driving on a tuesday the only thing your really gonna hit is your rush hours. i would have a feeling that if you drove to florida again, you wont take 95. :thumbsup2

Want to see some new states this trip so we're doing I-77 catching it in Ohio/W.Virginia going through SC, NC and catching 95 through GA and Fl-- (Starting from Upper Michigan --up by Lake Superior, folks!). I thought it would beat I-75 with all the stop and go traffic and I'm bored with I-65.
Will I like it?

We're driving from SW Michigan. :goodvibes But we're driving in January so want to get as far away from the snow as fast as I can, so I-65 here we come!

I-77 is a a BEAUTIFUL drive. Enjoy.

Hey there! Let me know what kind of route you end up taking....I'm a fellow Rochesterian and we're thinking of making the drive down for our trip in November. With 2 kids (2 years and 4 years old) and the longest we've gone in the car with them so far is 7 hours. :scared1:

We go either way just for variety. The way you are taking does have less traffic overall, but is longer and hillier. Traffic can be bad from Statesville south through Charlotte. We usually take 95 southbound after we avoid DC and then the Charlotte route northbound just for variety. Last time we came home via Nashville (I know, long way out of the way) but went to the NASCAR race there. That route is really nice for a change.

On our way down right now
Using our brand new Virgin Mobile mifi to write this :cool1:
We are going to Roanoke, VA for the night and them Pop tomorrow evening

i was just wondering today, friday, i passed a newer dark color chevy suburban heading south on rt 33 this morning around 8am. the suburban had a pa lic. plate and a hard black plastic rood top carrier on it. i couldnt see the driver but the person in the passenger seat had blonde hair. the suburban also was well disney fan marked.:lmao: i was just wondering if it was anyone on this thread?

I'm so jealous of e everyone getting ready to leave. Have a safe drive and a magical trip. Six weeks from now we will be on the road!

That'll be us this time next week!!! Exciting!:cool1:

Us, too!

We're leaving Thursday after work to get south of Richmond, then on to Florida on Friday and checking into the Wilderness Lodge on Saturday!

Only concern is the weather: There are four disturbances forming in the Atlantic...
