Good grief! I, too, remember seeing Footloose in the theater when I was in junior high. Why can't they come up with something original for a change?
My DD8 will be thrilled, and I will be conveniently unavailable when it's time for this one to debut. Perfect idea for a daddy and daughter date, methinks.
Zac Efron to Alyson Reed, HSM
Alyson Reed to John Ritter, Skin Deep
John Ritter to Billy Bob Thornton, Sling Blade
Billy Bob to Michael Clark Duncan, Armageddon
MCDuncan to Tom Hanks, the Green Mile
Tom Hanks to Kevin Bacon, Apollo 13
I'm sure there must have been an easier way, but that was all I could come up with right now!
Eww, eww, eww Zach Efron! He just looks so plastic and fake to me...like a mannequin that has come to life. I think he should do a remake of the Twilight Zone episode where the dept. store mannequins get to come to life once a year. He'd be perfect!
First of all, I don't think they need to remake the movie. It is a great 80's film.
That being said...
Footloose was rated PG when it came out so I don't believe there is anything that would have to be cleaned up. Even if there was, I do not believe having Zac as the star would be a reason to clean it up. Just because an actor may have appealed to kids in the past does not mean that they need to appeal to kids as they got older. Zac is turning 20 this year and if he chooses to act in things that are a little bit more adult, they can't dumb these movies down because your 10yo loves him.
Hairspray is also PG but there are some issues parents of young children may have to explain if they take them just to see Zac (interracial relationships and parents/society that do not agree with them is the sub plot to the whole movie!).
Technically, I don't believe there was PG-13 when it came out. If I am correct, Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom was the movie that they created that rating for, and that came out 3 months after Footloose. Not that I think it might have gotten that rating. But there is the scene where Ariel and Chuck get in the fight and he hits her more than once, and the little romp in the park with the red boots. But I totally see your point, but I think the fact is if they make it when HSM is still so hot that is going to be large chunk of it's potential target audience. Especially since those of us who loved the original will most likely not be.
Have they run out of original ideas in Hollywood? I can't stand that they are remaking all these great movies - I can't see anything comparing to the originals.
I'm very happy actully I love Zac Efron and I'm going to marry Zac Efron.
he was great in Hairspray and HSM and HSM2 so I'm wicked excited like most of the mom's daughters on here and I'm a DD 12.
