I know that illness can cause water weight gain, but what about an injury? I have somehow wrenched my back (never hurt so much in my life) and now I am afraid to get on the scale. Any one know if an injury can cause water retention?

yes injury can cause fluid retention. Any trauma/stress to the body can, be it injury, illness or even mental stress in some cases.

First of all sorry to hear that you have injured your back {{{hugs}}} to you.

I had a infection in my ankle, a week ago, and my ankle is still swollen from all the fluid that collected around it. I have all kinds of problems with retaining fluid, so now I just don't let it get to me! Don't let the reading on the scale get to you. Just know that you have retained fluid and if the scale has gone up, it will come back down when you get over the injury. If you are staying OP then you know that you will have lost weight, so try not to worry!

Oh boy I feel your pain! I am just getting over a severe back injury. Yes, yes, yes it can cause fluid retention. Do yourself a favor and don't step on the scale. Now that I am starting to feel better, I have no more fluid retention. My body was so swollen and my back inflamed! I feel for you, I really do. Make sure you go to the Dr. and get meds. They really helped. That and rest. Here's hoping you feel better soon. I will continue to check in on you. My injury coupled with some deaths in my family and my friends family really put me in a funk. Be good to yourself and rest as much as possible. I was told to use a massager with the heat on and then to put ice on your injury for 20 minutes at a time. It does help if you can stand it. Sleeping upright in a recliner also helped with some pain. At least I couldn't try to roll over in my sleep and be rudely awakened by deafening pain! Try it. I also was religious about taking my meds and pushing water. Do whatever you can to help yourself heal and let others help you if you can. Here's hoping for a quick recovery!:D

Thanks for the replies. I am staying away from the scale (cause between the back and TOM rapidly approaching, I am sure it is not friendly!) and drinking lots of water. I am taking some meds as well, and my back is slowly getting better. I appreciate you all!
